Myeong-dong Intersection, taken from undisclosed vantage point that you’ll never guess. See it in glossy in the December issue of SEOUL.

And with that…

Fantastic round-up. Going to re-post it on Facebook.

    Congrats on the cover shot!

Awesome line-up and thanks for the shout out. I will put this on my FB page as well. I love the variety and the "must read" link is absolutely amazing. The cover shot is amazing too! Love the light trails.

Thanks, guys. Just to clarify, though, it wasn't a cover shot. Meant the glossy paper inside the mag. My bad.

Oh, and not sure if you've seen it yet, but your photos came out real nice, too, Jason.

I quite like this shot of the Shinsegae-BOK-CPO plaza (does it have a name?).

Fortunately, you had the least appealing of the three buildings at your back. I didn't really like the old post office building, but the new one looks too modern for modern's sake. It simply does not blend with the other grand early 20th century buildings around it. They could have gone and made some grand building with a more traditional edifice, something that would have fit with the surroundings.

Of course, I feel that way about a lot of buildings in Seoul.

    • Robert Koehler

You might not like the CPO, but I will say this about it—it provides a nice platform from which to shoot the pretty buildings.

      • http://www.monster-island.net kushibo

Yes, the platform where the two sides split would be nice for taking photos (that's where you took it, right?), but a having an observation platform doesn't preclude that building from blending in with its historic surroundings surroundings.

I think the 태평로 빌딩 just south of City Hall Station does a fine job of showing how a highly functional modern building can have a "traditional" structure (in the skyscraper sense, not the Chosŏn-era sense) at least at its base, for when there are important older structures nearby.

Not everything has to be glass and glitz and funky angles.
