Regular Posting to Start from Today

A very, very brutal week is about to end. Regular posting to resume from today.

Marmot’s Open Thread #30

Another weekend, another day at work for Uncle Marmot.
On a positive note, I’ve finally switched my office computer to Ubuntu.
Anyway, discuss amongst yourselves.

The Police and Blog Restrictions

There is an interesting article at the JoongAng Ilbo about how blogging — along with online speech — has been restricted by the authorities in South Korea in an attempt to control stifle discussion regarding the 2007 presidential campaign.  Per one blogger:
. . . I was trying to analyze who Lee Myung-bak is. What I [...]

Four days left to election day. Oh boy!

And remember, children — if you don’t like the editorial direction of this blog, Uncle Marmot is always looking for new guest posters, especially those with differing viewpoints. Just send me a little info about yourself to marmotshole@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to consider you as a guest poster.

I Agree with What He Said

From Brian in Jeollanam-do: “What I find a little bizarre, and kind of sad, is the reaction the Wonder Girls have gotten among foreigners in Korea. The moral indignation with which a lot of bloggers and posters have reacted to this apparent offense to their refined sensibilities is laughable, and is about as awkward as [...]

IE6 Margin Hack

Just for my own future reference — how to get margins to look right in Internet Explorer 6.x.

Get it off your chest — you’ll feel better.

Template Changes

Made some slight changes to the blog template. No, it’s nothing major. Yes, I blatantly ripped off Andrew Sullivan, like I did earlier this year. Anyway, if something’s not showing up properly — IE 6 people, I’m talking to YOU — please let me know.

Have something to say?
Say it here.

Tacitus Man Lives

One of my favorite blogs used to be Tacitus, which not only had great posts but also had perhaps the best comment section in the blogosphere.
Unfortunately, the blog is no longer around, but the man behind it, Joshua Trevino, runs his own blog and publishes a very good podcast.
Be sure to check both out.

So much to say. So little bandwidth.

Whither the Asia Blog Awards?

I’ve been told by another blogger that the Asia Blog Awards won’t be taking place this year.
If true (and I can’t verify it for sure), this is something of a shame, because the awards — certain problems notwithstanding — were a good opportunity to read and discover quality blogs you might not ordinarily encounter.
Anyway, I [...]

Hope you get out this weekend. It’s beautiful out there.

Hey. it’s a free country.

Been a couple of weeks since we had one.

Youtube Meets AdSense

Google has just introduced video units into its Adsense program, which — as the good folk at Google say — gives you video content for your site AND earns you some extra revenue at the same time.
The service is not yet available for netizens based in Korea, unfortunately, but I’d imagine it will be soon.

Hey, Marmot, How Do I Get One of Those Cool Avatars?

The comment section avatars are back (and cached, thanks to the Gravatars2 plugin). If you don’t already have an avatar, head to Gravatar and sign up.

Happy Birthday, Coming Anarchy

Coming Anarchy marks its third year of blogging.
Keep on trucking, guys. Keep on trucking.
