Just updated to Wordpress 2.5.1. Wordpress users who haven’t done so yet may wish to do so.

I’ve also added a “Related Posts” section to the end of each post. This is courtesy a plugin written by Robert Marsh of the Society of Jesus. And if you can’t trust a plugin written by a Jesuit, whose plugin can you trust?

I’ve also put a “Popular Posts” list on the sidebar. Enjoy.

If you’re a contributor, you’ll notice quite a few changes “under the hood,” so to speak, but nothing you won’t get used to after a couple of minutes.

Reacting to Metro’s post concerning Korea’s first astronaut, Seoul Buffoon — whose blog I like, actually (Metro, on the other hand, might not) — writes:

The authorities have taken a decision for whatever reason… and the experts opinions are out in full flow. It is a free for all on the Korean blogs. Some male chauvinists are upset that it is a woman who will be the first Korean…others have suggested that the original candidate was spying for Samsung (his employer)…

Even English Teachers who obviously know nothing about space science (or they wouldn’t be teaching first graders grammar)…. have taken it upon themselves to throw in their two-bits!

Take a look at this reaction from one of them who says it is now party time! Some of the comments that follow in the blog post are quite something…. Conspiracy theories flow…. and some are cocksure that she is the better candidate. Com’on guys, leave it to the experts. Why don’t you stick to teaching the kids!

Well, thank God we have Indian business journalists to relieve English teachers of the burden of holding opinions.

It’s with great sadness that I report that Bill Kapoun has succumbed to his injuries.

I offer my condolences to his family and friends.

Kim Suneé, Korean-born orphan, traveler, gourmand, magazine editor and now author has a memoir/travel log Trail of Crumbs: Hunger, Love, and the Search for Home.  One plug for her new book reads:

The thought had been going through my head for quite some time now, but what made it final was what my wife said after she caught me looking at the Hole.  It was the day off, there wasn’t anything to do, nothing good on TV after “Heroes” on AFN-K, so while I was taking a quick look at the Hole my wife simply said “You are addicted to it.”  Addicted?  Well, I wouldn’t call it that, but on the other hand…. yeah I have been spending way more time here than I was supposed to.  That and posting at the Hole isn’t as fun as it used to be.  I remember when I started posting last summer, there will be a story that interested me and I would clip it with a sentence or two on how I felt about that certain issue.  Then comments will follow and yes there will be disagreements but that was pretty much it.  It was fun, and a break from the grind of the real world.  Now, it’s more of the opposite lately and one wonders whether it’s worth the investment in time.  So with the two factors in mind, I’ve decided that it’s time to take a break and concentrate more on the offline aspects of my life, which I have to admit, other than  work, has gotten a bit more fun lately.  (Yup, I can hear the gyopos celebrating already)  And just in time for the trip to Onyang Hot Springs and the opportunity to soak in hot spring water.  Although I won’t be posting, I’ll occasionally drop by and comment on stuff that interests me.

Anyways before I go I would like to thank Robert for giving me the opportunity to post here.  I have a feeling that he wasn’t happy with some of the things I’ve posted, and for that I would like to thank him again for bearing with me during the seven months I’ve been posting.  Also to my fellow guest bloggers, keep up the good work and to some of the commentators whom I’ve had the pleasure to know, keep on rocking.

Kim Hye-jin of GlobalVoices has an interesting thread that deals with what happens when older ways of thinking and societial conventions encounter the often rebellious youth of today (you know who you are), in Korea.  Just how does one draw the line between proper social behaviour and individual rights in a society that has a heritage that is deeply rooted in “Kong-ja“-related ideas regarding the individual and their role within society?
