BBC Radio 4’s Crossing Continents has a report on Korean missionary work in Asia (March 31, 2030 GMT). As per the article on such, some of the more interesting quotes run as such:

The Fifty-Million Dollar Fax

How is it that Korean jurisprudence has a very poor record of awarding damages in civil lawsuits, yet Dong-guk University wants to sue Yale University for fifty-million dollars because they mistakenly sent a fax that verified Shin Jeong-ah’s bogus degree ?

More Updates on The Olympic-sized Problems of Tibet and the Past Repeats Itself

The South Korean Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, Yu Myung Hwan encouraged his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on Friday to seek a peaceful solution to the deadly rioting in Tibet. A Bad Name Game

I really hope that Korean immigration do not start checking names that are on a list.

The food shortage in North Korea seems to be getting worse: “Some collective farm workers in those regions (rural areas) have not come to work citing the lack of food, and their absence is causing problems with farming preparations in the spring planting season”.

All Your Quip Now Belong To Us

As a follow up of events in Tibet, here is an interesting article from the NY Times and a report of blocking news sources from reporting on Tibet.

The Presidential Repository of Hidden Things

Currently G.W. Bush’s use of executive privilege to prevent information from being revealed, is one way to hide things but here in Seoul, Roh seems to have used a recently passed law (2007, April) to place many records from the his administration in a Presidential Repository of Hidden Things, where only a high court warrant, [...]

Canal Fever Returns and Is Mutating

My favorite Korean contributor to the New York Times, Choe Sang-Hun, has penned another article on LMB’s canal mania. It is sad to read such unrealistic comments like:
The canal will bring prosperity back to our town, It will put our town on the map. People will start moving in. They’ll no longer put [...]

The last of 노무한다 . . .

Roh’s aides apparently sabotaged the Blue House’s in-house computerized database. Maybe they were working for the Japanese all along . . .

Bring the Folks, Set A Spell . . .

There seems to be a plan now for American servicemen to bring their families with them while on their tour in South Korea. Involuntary tourism is a great thing for Korea after all.

All Your Television Now Belong To Us — Ha, Ha, Ha

Information and its dissemination is a very important thing since it shapes pubic opinion; opinion from which a democratic leader must take their cues from. As can be demonstrated in China, the control of information is synonymous to the control of a nation’s people and helps maintain their legitimacy (having an army with guns [...]

Flavor of the Month . . .

Per a general manager at Samsung Electronics:
“Samsung is in trouble now, trapped by the corruption scandal. I hope the current crisis will bring some changes in the mindset and attitudes of management.”
Maybe not.

Declare Independence . . .

Bjork surprised her Chinese fans by shouting “Tibet! Tibet!” after her song “Declare Independence”. The audience did not react but was uncomfortable with this and left quicker than usual.
Updated: The Chinese Cultural Ministry has declared that they will “impose stricter rules on singers and pop stars” claiming that Bjork broke Chinese law — as if [...]

Obama vs. Roh Comparison?

While people have been sorting through candidates in America, Americans have had much consideration of where they went dead wrong during the last eight years. Amongst the dialog, there is one blog comment that caught my attention because one commenter made a comparison between Roh Mu-Hyan and Barack Obama that caught my eye:
. . [...]

The NY Times blog has a little video of an empty North Korean Banquet hall, from a VBS documentary called, “The Vice Guide to North Korea”.
There is more on the VBS documentary here.
