Yep, it’s a new look

Note to co-bloggers: Here are the specs on the new template.

I like Photo Pin for stock images. Be sure to include the photo credits (embed code is provided). You’ll find more options here. Feature images should be at least 1038 px wide.

Once WordPress fixes one of the plugins, we’ll have a row (or slider) of feature articles at the top. Not sure how I’m going to make the selections, but I’m will to discuss the issue.

Anonymous Joe will want that phone number I think.

  • Anonymous_Joe

I’ve called and called. They do nothing.

  • cactusmcharris

In other words, like Allegiant Air – I get it now.

This is an effing mess. Looks amateur and very cluttered and crowded. I can’t tell what’s an ad and what’s a real post. My guess is you are seeking more click revenue, which is cool, but can it look a bit less like a cluster F%&K?

  • cactusmcharris

What, you don’t want information on (1) a 9 y/o girl creating a new and promising app (2) local mom exposes FREE facelift secret and (3) 10 drug addicts who succeeded in life? Please, sir, extend your horizons.

  • Josh Perlstein

    Very nice.

  • http://www.rjkoehler.com Robert Koehler

    That’s the spirit.

  • wangkon936

Hey, wasn’t your handle at one point KrZ or something to that effect?

  • ryuNchoosk

It’s much better on a smartsamsuxphone, which is the reasoning right?

  • aligner

What leads you to that conclusion? They appear to be completely different people.

  • Brendan Carl

I can’t see any ads, so that’s good, but this new layout really looks bad.

And why would you use stock images? Are you outing yourself as a dumb peasant? Disqus and stock photos – it’s like swimming in a cesspool of tastelessness, danger and ignorance.

  • Peiguy

Thank you for this blog. It’s free so people shouldn’t complain. Content is more important than design

  • MikeinGyeonggi

Yes, it is stlick looking. Though it’s not very efficient when it comes to text. Still not sure how I feel about it.

Usually, I’ll take readability / usability over slickness anyday. Part of the reason I quit reading askmen.com is that the new format takes twice as long to navigate.

I also think Ken Rockwell’s website is so popular because of the extremely simple layout. His opinions are 80% bullshit, he contradicts himself constantly, he’s sexist (and somewhat racist), he steals product images with no credit, and he’s a mediocre photographer. Yet his website is wonderfully fast and easy to read, which lets him earn a good living while being a douche.

    You’re a Canon user, aren’t you?

  • RElgin

If you use an adblocker on your browser, the theme looks good and is cleaner than what came before.
The photo behind the masthead should only be used on the more important threads or else it gets old quickly.

I research my stock photos carefully, thus they will always look better than average.

Hahahaha… Fuji these days. I actually like his info on old Nikon lenses, but that’s about the only thing he’s qualified to comment on. And last time I looked at his site, he had named the 5D mkIII the best DSLR in the world (for taking boring pictures of his own kids).

  • dww

Looks great on my S3 phone, but not so much on my desktop. Agree that it’s a bit too cluttered.

  • Michael

Agree with most posters. Can’t tell what is ad and what is not. Want to add a tiny, tiny detail: prefer when the comments button is listed at end of each post (on main page)

  • redwhitedude

Radical change. Gotta get used to this.

  • wangkon936

You know, a real STFU number would just put you on hold…. forever… with god awful Muzak in the background.

  • wangkon936

    Nikon D800…. drool

  • lankyfrank

People shouldn’t complain? Why not? Isn’t that how stuff gets better? If we all sit around encouraging mediocrity, that is all we’ll get. “free” is not a pass for shoddy workmanship.

  • dlbarch

Ah, jeez, head to the Aveyron for a couple of weeks of La France profonde and look what happens!

Look, I dig the fact that Robert has one of the few must-read KorBlogs out there, but one can take tinkering too far.

I’m sure RH has his reasons, but there was an elegant simplicity to the old format…like the graceful lines of a Samcheong-dong hanok.

    But this? Well….good gawd!

The expanded “Recent Comments” section is inconvenient with Disqus. The links do not bring the user to the comment made but only to the thread. The new Recent Comments implementation makes for too much work for the user.

  • silver surfer

How long will this one last I wonder?

  • wangkon936

Wait a minute. It was “numbaoneoppa,” huh?
