This is something you don’t see very often.
Their message, BTW, can be boiled down to, “Why the fuck are you guys doing this shit when we need to strengthen the Korea—US alliance and boost security against the North at a time when Pyongyang is threatening us with nuclear attacks?”

Looks like one of the few protests about the US in Korea I can agree with.
Some more details in the case are slowly coming out, it appears one police officer had his foot run over, if true then it was a well justified shooting.
Also the weapons are being described as the airsoft plastic pellet variety and two civilians are claiming injuries. That could certainly happen if they were hit in the eyes, I can’t see it happening anywhere else.

One of the few protests in Korea about the US I can actually agree with.
Sorry if this gets double posted, my earlier post is gone. More details are coming out in the case, it looks like one officer had his foot run over, if true I will put the shoot in the justified category.
Also the BB guns are being identified as the Korean airsoft variety, two civilians are claiming injuries which is certainly possible if shot in the eyes. Very unlikely for anywhere else.

at least they weren’t English teachers. “How can you be taking your job seriously when 1 000 000 000 Cinese speak another language!!”
LOL I had my foot run over when I was 13. It wasn’t painful and caused no damage. This supposedly justified the shooting?
Wait, people in Korea claiming injuries?! OH NO! With the blood money system, you bump into someone you face a real good chance of getting accused of hurting them. And with all the crooked, dirty, lying doctors here, I’m sure it wont be hard to find one to back that up.
Running over the foot of a police officer strengthens the allegation that the driver intended to run over the officer; a lethal threat which justifies a lethal response. The police officer also fired a warning shot which further strengthens justification that he was acting in self defense. It was most likely what he felt was his last chance, otherwise there would be 4 bullets through the windshield.
The fact you had a damage resistant foot at age 13 is not related to this case nor the intent of the driver.
Suspecting that the injuries are being faked is not irrational but not necessarily provable. An airsoft pellet to the eye will potentially cause damage, anywhere else and it will barely leave a mark. No one can make a proper judgement on this part of the claim without more information.
The person who ran you over the foot.. did he also back his car at you four times in a row and also cracking your leg? This probably has everything to do with racism. It’s disrespect for the locals by these US army people. By shooting at them with their toys, they wanted to pretend they were taking it out on the Koreans they didn’t like. Their attitude was probably let’s go hunting for g**ks and have some fun at their expense. They were also probably laughing it up and giggling when they were backing their car into that policeman. They just didn’t expect a bullet in response. It’s too bad the bullet missed and got him injured slightly. Let it be a lesson for anyone who thinks clowning around Korea and don’t take the local laws seriously. By no means am I saying all the GI’s are like these people. But I’ve seen too many of these types of people in uniform in Korea who give the majority of good soldiers a bad name.
Maybe, or youre just a crazy dingbat
Its not a damage resistant foot, ive injured my feet running. Listen try it. It isnt painful and certainly not reason to get shot. But this is the country of blood money, even being looked at causes some damage.
Are you seriously comparing getting run over by a car (after 4 attempts at running a person over, no less) to an injury you got while running?
Well, of course. But just so you know, you already won the gold medal in mental gymnastics. You don’t have to try as hard at a gala event.
If there are twenty police trying to get you to stop and you go towards them with a vehicle that can potentially kill them you deserve to get shot. Believe me, if some guy in the Middle East did this to a bunch of US military police or soldiers on the street he would be dead….100% certain of that.
Sounds about right.
Also sounds about right.
I try not to celebrate deaths nowadays, but suffice it say the guy should count himself very fortunate he’s still alive.
As I like to say, you don’t need to amend the SOFA when there are far easier ways to ensure good behavior and compliance with the law.
An ex-Marine once said to me, “The Okinawans hated us, but they had a right to hate us. We did whatever we wanted on that island and treated it like our personal playground.”
The USA needs to do two things. First, keep the troops at home. Second, let them know that when someone invades the USA we expect (we demand) that they unleash every bit of savage behavior they have within them to grind the invaders into the soil of the earth.
I’m saying getting your foot run over is nothing to cry about and no cause to shoot anyone. Im also saying that the cops escalated this situation at the very beginning when all these GIs were doing was shooting BB guns. This could have been handled in a way that wouldn’t have led to the chase and foot “injuries.”
I do find it interesting that the SOFA worked perfectly in this case yet so many are crying for it’s revision.
The percieved strength of the current SOFA has no effect on USFK crime.
It isn’t in the top 100 things (if they even think at all) for the common criminal, not because it is so weak but because the US Military will hammer the crap out of you with little to no evidence and for things not necessarily considered a crime elsewhere. In the US military being late, dating in the workplace, telling a sexist or percieved to be sexist joke or telling your boss what you really think can send you to jail.
These three knuckleheads assumed they would not get caught, they weren’t cackling like fiends that the US Military would wrist slap them and that the KNP couldn’t touch them. Let’s face it, there wasn’t a whole lot of thinking going on.
Absolutely no idea what you’re trying to say there but good effort trying to steer the discussion of this painfully embarrassing incident back to the usual target of Holers: the dreaded English teacher.
Tip: for added effect, next time you might want to throw in the adjective ‘Canadian’.
Pot smuggling Canadian English teacher with fake degree is a crowd pleaser.
creo,
Is asking the military to rein in their hooligans too much to ask? Shouldn’t we expect the same kind of behavior that we expect from them here at home? If this kind of crap happened in San Diego, Ft. Hood or Ft. Bragg (where there are still large military bases) should we tolerate it? Well, then why tolerate it in Seoul, Okinawa or Vicenza, Italy? Why are we making excuses for these people (the vast minority of U.S. service members IMHO)?
How is it the cops that escalated this situation? They approached the soldiers’ car after they had fired airsoft BBs at civilians. Then it was the soldiers who started the high-speed chase through Seoul, and it was the soldiers who drove over the cop’s foot while evading the police.
When a cop tells you to stop, you need to stop, especially when you are doing something wrong (like shooting plastic BBs at random people for no reason). Running from the police is what escalates situations.
Oh, they shot plastic pellets. That’s a lot better than the Korean guy in Texas that shot his neighbors over dog crap. It is just Koreans pulling the anti-American card. And you too.
ahh just obey, eh? Like a dog….?
As far as I know, they didnt merely approach, they tried to play TJ Hooker/Dirty Harry
Obey like somebody who just got busted by the cops for firing BBs at random civilians.
As far as you know, eh? And how is it that you know this?
I have my sources
Why should I obey? Is the government not my servant? Isn’t that what we are told in civics classes? Can the servant command its master? Just say it: obey like the beat down subject you are and don’t ask questions.
Oddly enough, I was also taught one shouldn’t shoot BBs at random people in public places. Granted, I was raised in the People’s Republic of New York, but I believe that principle holds true in Red State America, too.
Hey, I agree. But again, they are JUST BBs, Ive been shot by 9 year olds. Maybe next time Ill call TJ Kim, Dirty Min Soo, Lee and Choi, Busan Vice and Jeju Five-O to deal with the menace.
A self-declared misanthrope who doesn’t trust the government, who doesn’t trust the cops, hates democracy, hates everyone (by definition)… yet he has sources that he trusts. Hmm.
Yes, if a cop says, “Stop shooting random people with plastic BBs,” you should obey and not ask questions. There are no questions to ask. This wasn’t some test in civil disobedience; it was soldiers harassing random people for no reason.
My misanthropy is more for Mankind and not individual men or women. What I hate most is the humanist movement and the raising up of Mankind to the former seat of God. Where once we used to worship the myth of God, today’s humanists worship the Spirit of Man and it is under this new religion that individuals are crushed, their uniqueness destroyed and their freedoms eradicated. The humanists teach us that self-interest is evil, that only in service to Man are we full individuals. This sick humanism has been drawn upon for the past 2 centuries to establish highly oppressive regimes and it is the same humanism that lends itself to democracy where the individual is nothing in the face of the mass of majority. I can love individuals but humanity to me is nothing but an oppressor. Once there was a God, and we reduced to the level of fleas on his body. Now there is Man and we are again reduced to nothingness, to spare parts that can be thrown away in the interest of Man. Why should I love this oppressive idea, why should I bend my neck to Man?
“Get your hands off my Medicare!” Oh, wrong country…sorry. If only this were the response to a prudent Federal cutback…
Um, okay …. just out of curiosity how is whatever you just said there in any way relevant to a discussion about asshat US military personnel embarrassing themselves and their country during a time of heightened tensions on the peninsula?
Dude, with all due respect, judging by the incoherent gibberish you post here you are either a nutter (in which case, please seek help) or a pubescent teenager, probably still a virgin, living in your mum’s basement (in which case, pull your pants up and go upstairs, mum’s got the dinner ready).
Oh, and lay off the Ayn Rand, it is sooooo 80s.
thank you English teacher guy
A group of corrupt old farts who think they have a right to ask for another country to waste money on what they can’t do for themselves. You’re right – wrong comparison. Elderly Americans deserve to protest.
Aviano is a good model of peaceful coexistence, once i was in this bar in Chicago and i was talking to this hispanic dude who used to be in the Army overseas. I don’t know if he was trying to be polite or anything but he told me Aviano was the best time of his life, while his time in Germany was a living hell: all the skinhead gangs around made it really scary for American soldiers, particularly those of non-caucasian descent. Also my ex sister-in-law always told me her and her husband missed Aviano a lot.
When i was a young hooligan, hey i’m trying to be honest here, we often attacked and picked on American soldiers visiting Milano cos they had a reputation for being really mild and repressed and a good bullying target. We used to refer to them as “i coglioni in uniforme” (the uniform wearing dumbfucks), i don’t recall one single instance where they reacted.
I don’t know what goes wrong in other locations, maybe the quality of service men&women went down the shit toilet in the last 20 years or so ?
Listen if you try to run over my foot i kill you, if you try to break my arm, i kill you. Hell even if the alternative is getting punched or shoot the motherfucker who wanna punch me, i’d chose the latter option. Would you explain to me why i should be a good boy and sacrifice a piece of my body to preserve the life of some sorry sack of shit who wanna inflict pain to me for fun ?
This has nothing to do with fascism or other ideologies, it’s just about basic self-defense rights
Fascist cop, thats all I have to say.
So you don’t believe in self defense ?
You forgot to add prone to molest his students
Not for cops
Dude you gave me a great idea for a drama script, i would temporarily choose the “Pusan Sekki” title. It would be about an undergorund unit of hardened, no-nonsense, vigilante-type cops bending the rules to wipe off the most dangerous criminals in the country: yakuza meth dealers, Russian pimps, Chosun Jok jopok and NZ English teachers.
Choi Min Sik could be cast as the tough as nails head of the unit. Won Bin could be a good sidekick, playing the part of the silent, introverted, i-got-more-mental-issues-than-Charles-Manson trigger-happy street cop…any suggestion for the rest of the cast ?
Frankly I’m surprised there aren’t more GIs getting the shit beaten out of them. In Queensland we could only handle GIs for a couple of months before shit hit the fan. And I’m not especially down on American soldiers. I shudder to think how hated the ADF would be with that number of bored troops stationed overseas.
The accused were not trying to run over cops, they were trying to flee. I imagine what happened at the end of the chase (why would it end?) is similar to what happened in the video in Itaewon. That is; police officers jumping in front of a moving car as it’s trying to flee.
Fucking idiots all around on this one. Fortunately the moron who shot off three rounds (did you see the video of him talking) did not kill anyone.
Not sure what some moron in Itaewon shooting a bb gun has anything to do with North Korea and ..haha…re..unification.
There’s really not that much going on. The new generation of Koreans are desperate for their anti-American protest.
You’re in tight with the taxi ajushi?
The title of this article should read ‘Conservative Asshats Protest GI Asshats’
Wow, I’ve actually heard a rambling like this from a homeless guy at the shelter.
If SalarymaninSeoul’s commentary is incoherent gibberish, then this oh-so-unoriginal bromide is like… stale beer. It’s the platitude of all platitudes—the amalgamation, the culmination, the epitome, the quintessence of clichés.
Seriously, retire it already.
See, he’s got manners. He knows how and when to behave (no offense, Mr. Salaryman
How do you know he jumped in front of the car? Were you there? He said the car backed into him four times. OK in fairness, since there were only a cop, a taxi driver, and the three in the car, it’s he says and they say situation. But the three in the car says they don’t remember what they did to the cop. They also were caught lying. They claimed the driver was shot by an Arab. If the three have a different story to tell which is different from the Korean cop’s version of the story, then I would like to hear it. So far, natta, which leads me to believe the cop’s version of the story over the three fleeing GI’s.
you should check this movie out, you will enjoy it:

Man created god in his image.
Hey, I Got You.
Why did they embarrass their country? Do the daily cavalcade of Koreans exposed for bribery and corruption in their newspapers represent and embarrass their country? In my argument by analogy, Americans do not simply roll their collective eyes and think, “well, this is just part of our culture.”
Something that is lost here is that these off-duty who happen to be solders idiots acted as individuals outside of USFK stated and, more important, demonstrated by the smack-down demonstrated policies.
hoju, I’ll tell you why. (Please know that I, as an American soldier, never got into this sort of off-base problems (I saw and spoke to the division commander, a major general, everyday in my duties))
Soldiers are paid to be in outstanding physical shape and to kill people. Even with large numbers in a bar fight, you’ll know you’ve been in one. Particularly at this stage in my life, I would not want to mess with someone (football player, rugby guy, boxer, soldier) who hits and gets hit as a daily part of their routines. People who would make such a mistake are not used to messing with those kinds of people.
thanks English teacher guy
What?
What’s a civics class?
Probably goes some way to explaining why you guys aren’t exactly welcome there.
Is polishing boots every day supposed to impress us?
You’re elevating this event to “heightened tensions on the peninsular”, wow!!
He was referring to pot smoking Canadian English teachers. They only molest themselves.
Social studies, a.k.a. Indoctrination class where they teach all the wonderful euphemisms like government for and by the people, politicians = representatives, the wondrous tale of how the “bill becomes a law,” and all those other lies.
lol, yes that, as well as looking good in a uniform was part of my duty and one of the reasons I got the job.
There’s something about the abstract (posting on the web) or part-of-a-mob mentality. I remember a few years ago (I think 2005) at a Yanks – Sox game at Fenway a fan on the right field line took an uppercut shot at Gary Sheffield while Sheffield fielded a Jason Varitek batted ball. I remember thinking about that mentality. Sheffield was huge, a professional athlete, and as it turns out named in the Mitchell Report in 2007. The Fenway fan was a schlub. Walking on a sidewalk he would have made way; in a bar he wouldn’t even look Sheffield’s way.
My point above was that if you see a guy with cauliflower ears, exercise the better part of valor.
