And now for something completely different

in South Korea

The Republic of Korea Air Force Media Contents Team and the Air Force Military Band have teamed up for a fun little parody of Les Miserables called Les Militaribles.

The 13-minute clip is quite clever, very well done and has done very well –garnering nearly 2 million hits since released last Tuesday. And, apparently, Russell Crowe has given it a nod of approval.

The video was directed by Lieutenant Chung Da-hoon, 25, a film student before being called to duty in the military. He told Reuters:

“Snow removal is like a black hole. There’s no start and no end of it…We thought we could get sympathy from all Korean men and women who have brothers or sons. But we didn’t expect the response from overseas.”

Happy Lunar New Year to you all.

That was surprisingly good. I mean, I was expecting something shot out of an iPhone or something, but that was really high quality stuff.

That was hysterical… I just about spat out my beer at the “army guys always get broken up with thing,” since anyone who works at a Uni has seen that play itself out endless times. Props to the guys (and the girl) who did it, and ups to the military for letting something slightly subversive into release…

Worthy of a Grand Bell award for Best music, Best adapted screenplay, Best editing, and best actors and actress in a musical role. BRAVO.

The North Koreans are gonna look at this and laugh at how soft much South Korean men whine.

I laughed and laughed and laughed. I really get the endless shoveling of snow idea and the music was terrific. This was great.
