So, I take it you’re not a fan of Psy, then?

Oh my…

And in case you haven’t seen US Naval Academy cadets doing “Gangnam Style” yet

Acting is OK.

Mouthing is way out.

2 WangKon936 September 20, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Hahaha… I was gonna link this in the open thread… hahaha.

3 Jakgani September 20, 2012 at 12:49 pm

American broadcasters are even pronouncing “Gangnam” wrong – saying it as in “gang” – like a “gang of criminals” [ gang - num ]

4 WangKon936 September 20, 2012 at 12:53 pm

White ajomma dancing “Gangnam Style.”

9 Angusmack September 20, 2012 at 3:04 pm

Who knew that Cartman was based on a real person?

10 dtwSickboy September 20, 2012 at 5:08 pm

Acting is good enough to fool plenty of people…

11 jkitchstk September 20, 2012 at 5:18 pm

# 3 Jakgani,
Obviously Psy and his minions told them how to pronounce it, but they intentionally told them how to do so incorrectly in order for Koreans and/or people like you to laugh or call them stupid. Duh!

12 yuna September 20, 2012 at 5:44 pm

It should be KANGNAM, for Pete’s sake.
As I have been saying for yonks the beauty of Korean spoken language missed its chance to be known properly with the wrong and ugly romanization change in 2002 or whenever it was.

13 keith September 20, 2012 at 7:31 pm

Not very good, but slightly more amusing than the original Gangnam Style.

I haven’t clicked on the Youtube comments to that video, but I think it’s a given there would be a lot of people who will take this humor seriously.

I heard this song on the local radio the other day, while driving to work, and I had to rub my ears to make sure it wasn’t because I wasn’t hearing things. It’s become a huge hit in North America, and it’s just starting. I can’t remember where a foreign language song (especially an Asian language at that!) has ever become this popular, other then the La Bam Ba in Spanish during the late 80′s. This is just simply amazing.

I checked out CopperCap’s channel. Quite a collection. He’s definitely got his schtick honed.

The debate is on whether/when Gangnam Style parodies will “jump the shark”

http://www.lacrosseplayground.com/wow-that-was-fast-gw-lacrosse-teams-gangnam-style-parody/

You got to wonder how the Wonder Girls and Girls Generation feel about all this.

17 gbevers September 20, 2012 at 11:39 pm

#12,

The kid has a point. Why are we playing “South” Korean gang-style music here in the US? We have enough gangsters here, already. Why exacerbate the problem by playing and dancing to Korean gang music?

18 gbevers September 20, 2012 at 11:53 pm

I like the Naval Academy version better than the Korean version, but my son likes the Korean version better because of the little kid who dances in the first part of the video.

“You got to wonder how the Wonder Girls and Girls Generation feel about all this.”

That’s supposing they have the intellect to grasp the implications.

21 WangKon936 September 21, 2012 at 12:26 am

Yeah, I saw some of this kid’s other vids too.

Rob,

I think this kid needs some of your Xanax.

22 SomeguyinKorea September 21, 2012 at 12:27 am

#18,
You obviously don’t have much of a sense of humour.

23 CactusMcHarris September 21, 2012 at 12:58 am

Well, he’s right, K-pop is evil – otherwise, I think he’s reading too much Goebbels, if he reads at all.

24 CactusMcHarris September 21, 2012 at 1:01 am

#21,

That’s been long established, but scholarly pursuits require a taciturn mien.

Really? Well, you, Meguyin, are obviously anti-US Navy.

And why, Cactus (#23), are you using so many big words these days? You can’t even spell “man.”

28 JK September 21, 2012 at 2:24 am

Gbevers, please stop. You’re digging yourself into yet another deep hole and looking more and more stupid…as usual.

29 cubuff70 September 21, 2012 at 3:36 am

Navy…that’s a fail! More girls, less guys!

30 Bendrix September 21, 2012 at 3:48 am

I Googled Gerry Bevers and it turns out you’re a real dude! Sorry for calling you names. I thought you were a pseudonymous troll. If you are who you say you are, and you’re really just of the opinion that Dokdo is not historically Korean, that’s fine with me. To me, at least, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re anti-Korean. Of course, not all Koreans, or ethnic Koreans of other nationalities, will agree.

31 CactusMcHarris September 21, 2012 at 4:40 am

#26,

Nor did I need to.

32 iMe September 21, 2012 at 5:01 am

Wow…That kid is Gangnam style!

Didn’t you blame the US for the military performance at the Pacific war?

he moves well, good rhythmic but not really sexy…
For the You Tube first place, he could wait a lot before !

35 feld_dog September 21, 2012 at 7:30 am

I’d like to think that the Overlords at SM and JYP have all their skinny pretty boys chained up in some Gangnam K-pop dungeon, “Clockwork Orange” style, and are force-feeding them samgyeopsal and boiled potatoes while projecting pictures of PSY on the wall. “YOU MUST LOOK LIKE THIS NOW! EAT! EAT! EAT!”
And SNSD, Wondergirls, et.al. are now writing very polite letters to PSY: “Please put us in your next video, kind sir!”

36 Q September 21, 2012 at 5:59 pm

He kinda looks like Kim JI.

There will be a Gangnam style-inspired clothing line from designer Jill Stuart. This line, however will be only available in Asia.
