The 17th Busan International Film Festival, just shy of a month away, announced today both their opening and closing films, as well as this year’s festival host.
Asia’s largest film fest features over 300 films from over 70 countries, but has usually highlighted domestic talent in the big slots on the schedule since the Korean film industry gained acclaim.
The opening flick this year will be the Hong Kong big budget cop-thriller, Cold War and the closer will be the Bangladeshi film Television.
But really, for me, all of this is meaningless in light of yesterday’s announcement that China’s stunning actress, Tang Wei, will be hosting the festival this year.
Also, if you haven’t seen the Busan Film Center’s funky design by German architect Wolf Prix, that too is a sight worth seeing.
And Lord, I know I am not nearly as devout as some, but can you please grant us another outfit like the one Oh In-hae wore last year?
BIFF runs October 4th through the 13th.

Wow, that is a tasty arrangement, but aren’t lab boobs supposed to be….perky?
Man, when the BIFF (then PIFF) first began in 1996, I was a total skeptic. Busan in the 90s was still very much “you gotta be fuckin’ kiddin’ me?” territory.
Now, the festival (if not the beach) is the San Sebastian of Asia. This is one of those great success stories where I am more than willing to admit I had it all wrong.
I only wish Busan had better surfing.

pretty interesting
Those are large boobs for a Korean girl…but nice!
Tang Wei is okay, but the only truly stunning actress ever is this one.

So when Robert K is away, Bobby plays with burlesque themes?
How droll.
Well, someone once said that there is no word for “cleavage” in Korean. I think Oh In-hae will change all that.
All we are lacking is a Droll Troll.
Speaking of film. I can’t believe that the Ambassador to Libya died over this film.

I was expecting something totally different.
That makes me feel how peaceful we are in East Asia dispite all the disputes.
thedrew. The Ambassador to Libya probably didn’t die only because of that film. He probably died because the Arabs hate the Americans, and have been doing so now since Aramco first went to Saudi Arabia 80 odd years ago, and the U.S. started installing dictators (Shah of Iran, not Arab but Middle East; Saudi Royal Family, definitely Arab) 50 odd years ago to establish a cheap supply of fossil fuels for American consumption.
But, having said that, stupid movies don’t justify murdering directors. I hate religion. They only cause hate.
Pun NOT intended.
It only causes hate. Religion=it.
Grammatical faux pas.
