Keyinjpop, buy it. I use an m-audio midi board with propellerhead’s reason software and have been so happy with it. It’s lasted me over 10 years and is still going strong.
dww, if it’s still there tomorrow, I’m buying it. I’ve traded-in a lot of old stuff so the price shouldn’t hurt too much. It helps that the reviews and features seem promising.
If you’re going to go the MIDI route to making music I’d look for a controller keyboard with a few more features myself, no mention of ‘aftertouch’, too few controller inputs for example, does it even have MIDI out? With a controller keyboard you want a few ‘hands on’ controller inputs, programming in controller information on the computer is a very tedious business indeed.
Also I don’t thing it is really a ‘giggable’ KB, some of m-audio stuff is not really designed for the rough and tumble of playing live. For messing about at home though it looks like a fairly decent piece of kit for a very reasonable price.
I used to have a Yamaha SY85 back in the day and that was a solid beast for gigs – it was built like the proverbial ‘brick shithouse’. When it comes to road worthiness you can’t really go wrong with Yamaha or Korg, but you do pay a premium for pro or semi pro models of their stuff.
For messing about at home though that KB seems very keenly priced.
how about that clint eastwood, eh? i thought he was absolutely captivating and the best part of the entire convention but all the (liberal) media critics were/are rushing to dismiss him as a crackpot for talking to a chair. whatever. regardless, he was absolutely spot on about one thing: if someone’s not doing his job, he needs to go! and obama needs to go! to jail preferably.
i need to watch dirty harry again. that was a good movie.
I’ve been enjoying The Daily Show a lot lately. If anyone wants to see how uncharismatic, and even repulsive, an empty suit for a politician in the form of Mitt Romney can be, then do watch The Daily Show. They’ve been dropping quite a few funny gems on this guy and, also lately, his running mate Ryan. One can get good magnet links for download of the latest Daily Shows @ EZTV.
I loved the repug convention this week, talk about a wet dream, you had Chris Christie waiting until 1800 words in to his 2400 word speech to mention Romney’s name, the old war monger John McCain advocating at least 2 more wars to get into with no way to pay for them, Ted Cruz who wants to shoot illegal immigrants; followed by Paul Ryan with a speech so full of blatant lies that Fix Noises own website said it was one of the most deceiving political speeches ever made. Then yesterday with Clint Eastwood’s whatever that was in prime time instead of that very good Romney film. It was wonderful to watch, I loved every minute of it (and so did the Daily Show writers who got the week off).
What made it better was watching Mika Breziniski on Morning Joe every day drink herself into obivion while doing the show in a bar, I really thought she was going to do lap and for Micheal Steele
No way the dems can top this one, Well done Repugnicans!!!!!!
We always expect politicians to bend the truth, but I have heard so many blatant lies and distortions from the republicans this time around, that I can’t believe it. Perry saying the the stimulus created no jobs while independent analysis at that time credited it with saving or creating 2 to 3 million jobs. One recent analysis has put it at 3.4 million jobs. (just read that in the latest economist.) Paul Ryan’s speech. Blaming a factory closure on Obama even though it closed during Bush’s term, amongst his other falsehoods. Speaking of the dailyshow i loved Stewart getting Herman Cain to admit that he was wrong about welfare reform. Brilliant. I also loved colbert’s interview with Jon Huntsman. The only sane guy with integrity out of the Republican candidates this time round. I would say Romney is also sane but lacks integrity. All the others were loons. Ron Paul has integrity, but he is a bit looney. The best pick of the bunch. Shame he couldn’t sell himself better. An even bigger shame that a good portion of the republican base are a bunch of nutters.
OH yeah I forgot of mention Paul Ryan’s criticism that obamacare will remove over 700 billion dollars from medicade, while ignoring that his program would do the same thing. Rich. The press should be asking about that every time they talk to him. They shouldn’t let any politician try to get away with lies like that.
usanchris: yes cos having an economy supported by 100%+ and growing debt to gdp ratio is so sane…enjoy it while it last, don’t cry when you wake up in the same league of Greece and either a gallon of gas will be 10 $ (oh but that will be positive so everybody will ride bycicles right ?) or you will have to beg some Sheik Islamov to spare some change from his wealth fund to borrow the food stamps money.
110 million people receive some kind of benefits in America now, yep really a sterling economy.
I am all for balancing the budget and getting rid of debt. The best way to do it would be a mix of spending cuts and tax increases. Romney wants to cut taxes and cut spending. That will increase the deficit unless if he dramatically cuts spending and lays off an incredible number of civil servants. IF the economy was humming along nicely with a high growth rate and he cut the number of government workers gradually enough so that they private sector could absorb them, that would be fine. The economy is barely growing and a massive cut in government spending would bring back the recession. Obama had a decent plan with Simpson Bowles, unfortunately he didn’t pursue it. Even if he did the republicans never would have went for it because mostly they are a bunch of nutters. Also US is in a much better situation than Greece. Greece is hampered by stifling rules and regulations, and massive tax avoidance.
You can’t blame Obama for the price of gas because, lately, the spike in prices has to do with the threat of Israel attacking Iran.
Republicans have undermined the recovery. If they had passed some of Obama’s initiatives, than a million more people would be working.
THe Republican solutions to many of the problems facing the US would cause more harm than good. The US really needs to cut spending on the military but Romney wants to increase spending. Really, that would be fine if there were no debt, but with the way the finances are right now? That is insane. The US army doesn’t make the US great. It is the American economy that does. If the army is too big for the economy to support than the whole system will be messed up.
Currently in the US public expenditure (factoring in all levels of Goverment) is well above 40% of GDP, a level comparable to many Euro nations.
Tax receipts, direct and indirect, on the other hand float around 30%.
So one of the 2 has to go: either you guys cut benefits or you raise taxes. And when i mean raising the taxes i mean massively raise the taxes, not the “tax the 1%ers hiding their assets offshore etc. etc.” bullshit.
This level of expenditure requires a massive hike across the board, for the poor, for the middle class, for the moderately well off. It requires probably the implementation of a VAT system.
I have the feeling that such program would not be considered exactly popular, so instead we keep hearing about this tax the wealthy red herring, when the math simply doesn’t add.
I wish that for a change progressives around the world would just come out and speak the fuckin’ truth, that they want to centralise lots of spending power of their citizens. and operate a massive redistribution.
Also sorry but i don’t buy this we need stimulus now, no actually we need it bigger, and everything will be ok in a little bit.
How much is enough stimuus ? It seems like it’s never enough for Keynesians. The Western world has actually lived on Keynesian stimulus for decades, W was one of the most Keynesian Presidents in the history of America.
When Keynes elaborated his theories he had in mind the America of the 1920′s: a country that was a net creditor, with a big trade surplus, suffering from a lack of internal demand, due to low purchasing power
In today’s world only country in a similar situation is (was) China. The West doesn’t suffer from a lack of demand, it suffers from an excess of unemployable bums with little to offer in today’s productivity environment.
Do you really think that flooding the system with disability payments, food stamps and subprime car loans will make problems go away ?
How you reactivate growth (btw i think the US is not growing now, American economic data are some of the most manipulated around)
And that leads me to Greece: Greece and the rest of Southern Europe don’t suffer from excessive regulations, tax avoidances, laziness etc. etc. they are fucked by their absolute lack of technical knowledge.
We have here centuries old school systems that teach you about all the marvels of the ancient Roman world, while our kids are unable, upon high school graduation, to solve a second degree derivative, to elaborate about the laws of thermodynamics or the difference between an acid and a base.
And from what i gather the US is not in a much better situation.
Also cutting the defense budget ? You guys nuts ? At this time when there’s a global rise of nuveau riche bully wannabes ? Not a good idea, not at all. Plus the military is a huge source of advanced technology R&D with very lots of benefits cascading over the private sector.
Last but not least, you’re right about Obama having a limited influence over the gas price, even if running a massive government deficit funded by QE gotta push those Brent futures a bit up after all, but guess what ? I will vote in my country for anybody who pledge to develop domestic FOSSIL FUEL resources, ‘cos i’m sick of seeing our economies crippled by energy-induced current account deficits and i’m sick of the progressive love for the renewables mafia (results n 40 years ? Zero, zilch, nada nihil, niet)
Apple CEO Mr. Cook said he hopes it sends a message that “STEALING isn’t right.”
Kolon Industries of Korea didn’t get the message for they’ve been banned for STEALING, “because it used technology STOLEN from U.S. chemical giant DuPont” says Judge Robert Payne, at the Eastern District Court of Virginia. http://koreajoongangdaily.joinsmsn.com/news/article/article.aspx?aid=2958755&cloc=joongangdaily|home|newslist1
“The jury awarded Dupont $919.9 million in damages for stealing trade secrets. Kolon has been preparing to appeal the ruling to avoid paying damages that are equivalent to about 70 percent of its total assets.
Kolon’s Heracron is mainly used in making body armor, competing with DuPont’s trademarked synthetic fiber Kevlar, which the company developed and has sold since 1973. ”
Kolon say what?
“Kolon immediately released a statement yesterday, saying it will request a suspension of execution of the ruling.
“We express deep regret about the global sales ban on Kolon’s Heracron by the U.S. court and will take stern measures,” the statement said. “The latest ruling lacks legitimacy both in terms of legality and factual relevancy.”
Kolon’s lawyer, Jeff Randall, said DuPont was trying to block fair competition in the global aramid market through the lawsuit. He pointed out that the U.S. court unfairly excluded testimony of Kolon’s innocence, and said there were numerous procedural errors in the Virginia trial.
The company also said there is no sufficient evidence proving Kolon stole information.”
Ouch….Korea Inc. Tough couple weeks! Glad to be heading out of Korea for a leave of absence cause me thinks Koreans are going to start to get a little pissy towards Americans pretty soon.
BOth parties have been guilty in getting the US to where it is. It goes back decades. Bush 2 does bare much of the responsibility though because of his two wars. The seeds of the economic crisis go back to before his presidency. I don’t think either side has much of a credible answer to the current situation, but I think the republican solution would cause a lot of short and medium turn pain. I think a better choice would be for both sides to compromise and make spending cuts and tax increases that would tame the deficit over the medium term and avoid a lot of pain. Interest rates are low at the moment so running a deficit for the short term is, though not ideal, is livable, and preferable to the alternative.
Thanks to cheap natural gas fossil fuels are here to stay for the foreseeable future. Although there will be an end to them and alternatives will need to be used. Best to get on finding them now, while we still have plenty of fossil fuels.
I dig your posts, man. You strike me as an erudite individual who does his homework. You mentioned The Economist which I also read cover to cover every week. In any case, let me give you some unsolicited, friendly advice. Don’t engage in economical or political commentary here at the Hole. There are better sites.
There ARE some very intelligent people at this site but there are a lot more, how should I gently put this, semi-educated, kinda, but not really, intelligent people. A little bit of knowledge is more dangerous that complete stupidity. Which is why God created the blog on the eighth day.
And after all is said and blogged, it is kind of like teaching a pig to sing. You annoy the pig, but worse, you completely waste your mother f***ing time. Don’t waste your time, dude. Buy a camera and take pictures like one cool dude I kinda know. Study Korean history like many other cool dudes do at this site. Learn Korean. Get a life and a hobby.
In fact, get a girl pregnant and learn real responsibility/manhood. And love her and the baby until you die. Or reinvent infinity. Not necessarily all in that order.
YangachiBastardo:
That was some pretty entertaining sh*t. Although I shouldn’t comment because I am not qualified to comment since I only have an MBA in finance/economics and teach business at a university but just let me simply say your writing and prose is ooohhhhh how should I sum it all up as diplomatically as possible……
It was like half-intelligent, random uncited factoid, emotionally handicapped, Euro-centric trash, semi-incoherent, emotions trumping intelligence, vitriolic, vengeful, really bad I think he drank a lot and ate crappy bar food last night and then had morning diarhea which he somehow transcribed down in English blog format.
How was that? Close?
But don’t let that stop it all from coming, or running out of you. Spew away, dude. Spew away. In fact, I recommend you spend a lot of time blogging. A LOT OF TIME. You have incredible potential. Don’t do anything else, dude. Blog, blog, blog, night and day. It is high art and you are its Picasso, nay, its Michelangelo.
P. S. “subprime car loans” Oh God. I almost shat my pants. I pray your self-rightous, semi-intelligent self is Republican.
P. S. S. The new semester starts Monday. See you all in December. And Merry Christmas.

I’m always willing to learn, so can you refute at least one of my points ?
Cos if i read the above commentary i see you actually kinda praised the merits of what i said (“half-intelligent”) or at least didn’t spend more than a few words to demolish it. The rest of the paragraph is focused just on my prose (“vitriolic” “vengeful” “semi-incoherent”).
Honestly i appreciate your input but i have no ambition to become a novelist so i really don’t know what to do with it.
If i ever decide to pass the TOEFL, i’ll ask you for help.
I only have an MBA in finance/economics and teach business at a university
Dude sorry MBA’s are like the asscrack: everyboy has one. I have one too, i took it after i moved back to my country, after spending 6 years trading currencies at no other than…drum rolls drum rolls drum rolls Refco (HAHAHAHHA), i know hilarity ensues.
I even run for a while the currency options portfolio of a small hedge fund we sat up for our clients (i was wiped off by the LTCM crisis btw).
I also hold a CFA and RISK certificate and wanted to take a CAIA, before shit hit the fan last year. I learned all that shit about how to use a Chi square, a T student, how to create a Garch model, how to incorporate Monte Carlo simulations to estimate the VAR of a derivatives portfolio.
You know it’s just mumbo-jumbo to make finance guys feel important, but it’s useful to pick up Japanese chicks
You mentioned The Economist which I also read cover to cover every week
LOL the Economist, very superficial tripe (the same rag who called Germany the sick man of Europe a few years ago) but it’s good when you’re waiting to board on a plane. It’s actually the best airport magazine, perfect to kill time before you get on board and you can finally relax watching the Hunger Games on your seat screen
You guys all forgot the greatest events in last fifty years, the Reganomics.
When Reagan got into the White House, the US was in deep s***. Economy was slow and the future looked dim.
Then, he rose up to the occasion, he increased the military budget to high heavens and gave hugh tax cut. He did this when there was no hugh surplus.
Of course, he was SPENDING way too much. Budget was never balanced. It was always in red. Then, to make up the deficit, he borrowed and borrowed. Mostly from the Japanese. Thereby, allowing Japs to totally destroy American Auto Industry. What a rascal.
But, overall US economy started humming. And, the US got over the 2nd biggest economic bad cycle in its history. It never looked back since.
Reagan is a hero. He saw where the US must head.
We need Reagan again. Borrow and Spend. Borrow from the Chinese and spend in space program (NASA). That will get us out of this funk.
When Reagan released liquidity, the computer industry was just starting. At first, IBM would not even get into PC market, it said the market is too small.
However, with Reagan pumping, some people had enough money to buy $2000 toy (which is equivalent to spending $4000 in today’s money) that had nearly no real value other than as a toy.
In stead of Japan, Germany or England, the PC industry got started in the US. Because Reagan pumped.
The robot industry, based on smart vacuums and smart cars, is just starting. Someone should pump liquidity into the US economy so that people will buy these “toys”.
I dunno which is more entertaining, arguments about Dokdo or arguments about US politics.
Anyway, I’m really excited because my university, Auburn University, just entered into a “partnership” with Keimyung University (계명대학교) to open up a Korean culture and language center on our campus. Supposedly, the Korea Times should have an article about it, though I don’t know when it was or will be published. Someone let me know if you find it. Now, if only I could get makkeoli for less than $10, I’d be set.
I have just posted HERE my translation of the “Second Opinion on Matsushima” by Watanabe Kouki, who was the Director of the Bureau of Documents for Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his opinion, he mentioned “Oki’s Matsushima” (Liancourt Rocks) and wrote, “since Matsushima is closer to our country than Takeshima, Korea also cannot oppose our saying Matsushima is part of Japan.” He need not have worried since Koreans had no clear understanding of Liancourt Rocks in 1876, beyond seeing it from Ulleungdo on the distant horizon and believeing it to be part of Japanese territory.
First, SCAPIN directives excluded Dokdo from Japan and SF Peace Treaty demanded Japan to observe the directives, which Japan signed to agree with:
Japan recognizes the validity of all acts and omissions done during the period of occupation under or in consequence of directives of the occupation authorities
#9, which is why I’m getting it. I can’t do lives and I want to work in the comfort of my own home. Later on, when I feel I need more than 49-keys, I’ll get a better keyboard or another instrument to go along with the current keyboard.
yeah i don’t know what the hell paul ryan was thinking lying thru his teeth like that. i know he’s merely a puppet but if romney/ryan lose, his speech full of lies and distortions will haunt him for a looooong time. what a stupid fool.
I’m sure Romney is well-qualified to be president. (unlike Obama was)
It’s just that his personality doesn’t help his electability.
It doesn’t matter how well-qualified he is, if a significant percentage of the population thinks he’s an alien from another planet.
I just wish Romney had more human charisma.
I’m waiting for the ethno-apologists to kick into gear and start dissing DuPont, Virginia, and whatever other America-bashing they can think of.
Amazing how simply demanding that Korean companies respect American patents and pay a licensing fee is now spinned by Korea Inc. as stifling competition.
“[Kolon] also said there is no sufficient evidence proving Kolon stole information.
Kolon recently showed its production site in Gumi, North Gyeongsang, to local media with an aim to prove its 30-year efforts to develop the aramid fiber technology.
The Korean firm starting developing aramid 33 years ago in cooperation with the late Dr. Yoon Han-shik, an expert at the Korea Institute for Science Technology Research, to localize aramid technology.
Yoon received patents for the technology in seven countries, including the United States and United Kingdom, in 1985.
Delaware-based DuPont and Amsterdam-based AkzoNobel raised issues with the patents that Yoon earned at the time, and the three were embroiled in a patent infringement suit. Yoon claimed victory as a European court ruled in favor of Yoon in 1991.
DuPont, however, didn’t surrender to the result, continuing to pressure Kolon in various ways, including hindering the company from securing raw materials to produce the aramid fiber. ”
If Kolon definitely stole Dupont’s technology, how did Yoon win the case in 1991?
Hummm…. okay, I didn’t read the rest of the thread. Your comments seem to be limited to DuPont/Kolon, not Apple. Thus, my linking of comments and articles regarding Apple is not relevant. So, apologies.
I will also say that just because cases are won or lost in different countries may not mean a lot regarding what happened because different nations have different laws and legal histories. Just because a case is thrown out in Japan doesn’t mean it should be in the U.S. and vice versa.
I have already stated my thoughts that although I think Apple’s UI patents as valid and their design patents sh*t, I also think that depending on what further hammers Judge Koh decides to drop after the award of $1B by the jury. Theoretically, since the verdict considered the copying as “willful” Koh can award Apple 3x more than the jury verdict. This I believe would be too much because it can have a multiplier effect and affect competition and consumer choice. It will also hurt U.S. manufacturers such a Moto, Google and U.S. phone networks that don’t get any Apple love such as Sprint and T-Mobile.
Having said that, I do find a trend among your debating style that I find disturbing. Just because some people are Korean and have issues with the verdict, you are appearing to think that it’s some part of an ethnic coalition against Apple and are completely discounting their opinion based on their ethnicity. I think this is a subconsciously racist viewpoint and is beneath you. Does this mean that the Japanese court and the British court (which also ruled in favor of Samsung) co-ethnics along with the Koreans? That’s ridiculous, no? That’s what you sound like right now. I’d really wish you would stop it. I really wish you would address objections by the strengths and weaknesses of those objections, not by the color of the skin and hair of those making the objections.
DLB (#53), is “spin” now a regular verb? Or only when used with the meaning of to put spin on a report? Sort of like the difference between ‘hang” a picture and “hang” a person, the former irregular, the latter regular? I’m asking sincerely, not being ironic, for these changes to occur. I’ve seen “broadcast” become a regular verb, for instance.
‘Samsung is said to have infringed on shape, then there are a number of other manufacturers who are in trouble too. Rectangular faces with rounded edges are a natural evolution in the mobile phone industry. Certainly, other manufacturers are going to hope there will be a reversal on appeal.’
dlbarch, do you really believe apple invented round edges?
First, SCAPIN directives excluded Dokdo from Japan and SF Peace Treaty demanded Japan to observe the directives, which Japan signed to agree with….
How strange! The Korean Ambassador to the US thought the same thing just before US Sec. of State Dean Rusk told him otherwise in August 10, 1951 letter:
With respect to request of the Korean Government that Article 2(a) of the draft be revised to provide that Japan “confirms that it renounced on August 9, 1945, all right, title and claim to Korea and the islands which were part of Korea prior to its annexation by Japan, including the islands Quelpart, Port Hamilton, Dagelet, Dokdo and Parangdo,” the United States Government regrets that it is unable to concur in this proposed amendment. The United States Government does not feel that the Treaty should adopt the theory that Japan’s acceptance of the Potsdam Declaration on August 9, 1945 constituted a formal or final renunciation of sovereignty by Japan over the areas dealt with in the Declaration.
As regards the island of Dokdo, otherwise known as Takeshima or Liancourt Rocks, this normally uninhabited rock formation was according to our information never treated as part of Korea and, since about 1905, has been under the jurisdiction of the Oki Islands Branch Office of Shimane Prefecture of Japan. The island does not appear ever before to have been claimed by Korea.
” yeah i don’t know what the hell paul ryan was thinking lying thru his teeth like that. i know he’s merely a puppet but if romney/ryan lose, his speech full of lies and distortions will haunt him for a looooong time. what a stupid fool.”
Lies and distortions are the definition of Republican, he will be fine.
“This statement again reiterates the failure of the ROK Government to provide a well-researched and complete history of Korea´s ownership of Dokdo to the U.S. State Department during these negotiations. It is also a testament to the influence that the Japanese treatise, “Minor Islands in the Sea of Japan” had on American planners. Although the now infamous August 10, 1951 memorandum may be seen by some as the U.S. recognition of Japan´s claim to Dokdo, the final draft of the peace treaty still did not reflect any U.S. position regarding Dokdo, as the islets were NOT mentioned at all in the treaty. In fact, evidence suggests that the Americans NEVER informed the Japanese Government of the existence of this memorandum and the position stated in it. The reasoning for all of this has never been explained. It seems that the Americans were ATTEMPTING to (quickly) remove themselves from the territorial dispute over Dokdo by stopping the Korean demand dead in its tracks via the August 10 statement, but at the same time not telling the Japanese about it, and by AVOIDING mention of the islets in the final draft of the peace treaty. Therefore, the real purpose of the U.S. State Department´s August 10, 1951 memorandum is open to interpretation. Was the memorandum to serve more of an instrumental purpose in helping the U.S. get out of the dispute, or was it really a straightforward policy decision (and if it was, why weren’t the Japanese told about it?) Later statements from American officials seem to support both interpretations, with the Americans tending to increasingly DISTANCE themselves from support for Japan´s claim as the signing of the 1954 US-ROK Security Treaty came closer.”
Apparently news of Samsung has been a bit slow in traveling to our Chinese brothers and sisters (or possibly they just don’t care about such insignificant matters).
“This statement again reiterates the failure of the ROK Government to provide a well-researched and complete history of Korea´s ownership of Dokdo to the U.S. State Department during these negotiations.
What are you talking about? I’m sure Korean officials back then yelled as loud as they could, “DOKDO IS OUR TERRITORY!” They probably even cut off a finger or two and flung some poop. I am not sure if they sang the Dokdo song since I don’t think it had been written at the time.
By the way, TheKorean2, when are you going to correct my newspaper translations? Remember? The ones you said were mistranslated.

politicians of all stripes lie and distort. it’s just that ryan’s lies were so blatant that even our traditionally brain dead press couldn’t help but pause and say, “now wait a minute…something doesn’t compute!” he’s now in danger of becoming a bigger joke than dan quayle and that in and of itself is an accomplishment i guess.
Kolon is now facing contempt charges on top of everything else since they deny stealing from Dupont. Kolon must remove and hand over Dupont’s trade secrets or face contempt proceedings.
Dupont say what?
“The injunction, coming on the heels of DuPont’s $920 million damages award from last September, reaffirms what was already clear: that Kolon Industries willfully and maliciously misappropriated DuPont’s proprietary Kevlar® technology,” said Thomas L. Sager, DuPont senior vice president and general counsel. “The trial court ordered Kolon to not produce, market or sell any para-aramid fiber products, worldwide, for 20 years; it also permanently enjoined Kolon from using any of the trade secrets it stole from DuPont. Additionally, Kolon has until Oct. 1 to remove and return DuPont’s trade secrets or face contempt proceedings.
“In so ruling, the court found Kolon’s conduct to be ‘brazen,’ adding that ‘Kolon’s conduct shows a complete disregard for DuPont’s trade secret rights and a disregard for the law that protects such secrets.’ At Kolon, the judge held, misappropriation of DuPont’s trade secrets was ‘a matter of corporate policy.’ A full production injunction is warranted because ‘the Court has no confidence that Kolon could be relied upon to police its own activities.’” http://finance.yahoo.com/news/dupont-statement-injunction-against-kolon-142000830.html
Kolon will likely be looking for a Korean loan shark or two since damages are at 70% of the companies net worth.
“Thomas G. Powell, president of DuPont Protection Technologies, added, “We are pleased that the judge has enforced the protection of our Kevlar® trade secrets. DuPont has devoted more than 40 years and considerable expense to research and refine Kevlar® to make it the world’s most trusted aramid fiber. It is important not only to us but also to our customers that we are able to continue to innovate and invest in our business, our brands and our latest technologies, including our new facility to make Kevlar® near Charleston, S.C. The judge’s order sends a clear message to Kolon and others that they cannot benefit from the theft of our trade secrets.”
“Any doubts regarding Psy’s popularity in the United States should all be forgotten.”
Do you ever see headlines that say, “Any doubts regarding [insert American performer]‘s popularity in [insert foreign country] should all be forgotten”???
There is not that much mainstream press here about the American-lead “Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)” treaty with at least eight countries in the Pacific. Isn’t there a better way to protect Korean IP or does the nameless intellectuals feel they need a collective hedge against the giant IP threat in China? It also creates problems in the future for Americans, problems that are not so obvious just now.
I wonder why Korean and American politicians stay away from this topic?
No matter how many correspondence were written, secret diplomatic letters do not carry legal effects. SF Peace Treaty signed by 48 Allied Powers ordered Japan to recognize SCAPIN directives and Japan signed to agree to the treaty:
Japan recognizes the validity of all acts and omissions done during the period of occupation under or in consequence of directives of the occupation authorities or authorized by Japanese law at that time, and will take no action subjecting Allied nationals to civil or criminal liability arising out of such acts or omissions.
Japan only have to recognize SCAPIN and SF Peace Treaty.
@WangKon936 (#76),
The Japanese asshats are threatening customers not to buy at Korean stores. The leader in the clip was the same guy who led anti-Kim Tae Hee demonstration.
Japanese often make fun of Korean language by adding NIDA(니다: counterpart of です) to their sentences. DEATH(です) is a counterpart to indicate the end of predicative sentences of Japanese language.
here is an article written by a apple reporter from time. look at the comments. not much support for apple though i am sure many of you will reassure yourselves by thinking all the posters are korean.
GENERAL HEADQUARTERS
SUPREME COMMANDER FOR THE ALLIED POWERS
AG 091 (29 Jan. 46)GS
(SCAPIN – 677)
3. For the purpose of this directive, Japan is defined to include the four main islands of Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku) and the approximately 1,000 smaller adjacent islands, including the Tsushima Islands and the Ryukyu (Nansei) Islands north of 30° North Latitude (excluding Kuchinoshima Island); and excluding (a) Utsuryo (Ullung) Island, Liancourt Rocks (Take Island) and Quelpart (Saishu or Cheju) Island, (b) the Ryukyu (Nansei) Islands south of 30° North Latitude (including Kuchinoshima Island), the Izu, Nanpo, Bonin (Ogasawara) and Volcano (Kazan or Iwo) Island Groups, and all the other outlying Pacific Islands [including the Daito (Ohigashi or Oagari) Island Group, and Parece Vela (Okinotori), Marcus (Minami-tori) and Ganges (Nakano-tori) Islands], and (c) the Kurile (Chishima) Islands, the Habomai (Hapomaze) Island Group (including Suisho, Yuri, Akiyuri, Shibotsu and Taraku Islands) and Shikotan Island.
Dokdo does not belong to Japan, Gerry.
Maybe the Japanese want to think it belongs to Japan. But how is Japan going to get it?
Dokdo has already been developed by Korea and the Korean navy is patrolling the area. Will Japan really attack the Dokdo islets?
Korea has no obligation to go to the International Court of Justice. A few weeks ago, the Taiwanese government also asked Japan to go to the ICJ to resolve the Diaoyu Island/Senkaku Island dispute. But Japan refused.
According to SCAPIN, Dokdo, the Kuril Islands and many other islands do not belong to Japan.
Please take time to seek psychological help, Gerry.
When do unmarried men/women wake up from fantasy on dating partners? A survey was undertaken to 887 single ladies and 985 single men in their 20′s and 30′s in Korea.
MEN
1) When she smells bad (BO)
2) When she releases gas (burp, fart)…
3) When she says expletives inadvertently
WOMEN
1) When he gets silent after pissed off at triviality
2) When he passes by a street quarrel pretending not to notice it
3) When he gets furious about little scratched on his belongings
2) When he passes by a street quarrel pretending not to notice it
Interesting – I thought it was common practice in Korea to ignore street quarrels.

Until you are a “Professor” in Korea you are a nobody. But I think you already knew that.
Looks like Paul Hewson not only knew it but felt the need to demonstrate it, Merits or orherwise to YB’s rant the best he could come up with was an ad hominen attack on a non-native speaker for his writing skills – class!
If Kolon definitely stole Dupont’s technology, how did Yoon win the case in 1991?
Have you actually bothered to establish whether the issues contested in each case are the same. If so please feel free to link it, since there is nothing in the article to suggest same.
Hasn’t it been for along time, to spin a top, to spin a wheel, to spin cotton, even alliteratively the new meaning of spin probably derives from to spin a story…
We already talked about this in another thread. The scan of the article is up there. I even copied and pasted the link to it. If you search online, you can find it in the DongA Ilbo archives – that is how Gerry Bevers found it.
I’m sure you know this, but just to clarify: ideas themselves are not patentable, only the specific articulations of them are, whether in writing, process, use, design and/or some particular combination thereof, etc.
The failure of ignoramuses like Pawi to take account of this underlies the inanity of such supposedly pointed rhetorical questions as he has asked, eg. Apple’s supposed right to rounded corners.
Is your middle name Thomas? How many bites at the apple are you willing to give these guys before your stop doubting their fundamental lack of intellectual integrity when it comes to anything that might undermine their position, regardless of its truth

Dunno. Depends on how you define “these guys”. I think everyone deserves a couple of chances.
size of USA = 9,827,000 km² (6,106,214 miles²) of which 1,718,000 km² (1,067,520 miles²) is actually Alaska
so USA without Alaska = 8,709,000 km² (5,411,521 miles²)
size of Australia = 7,741,000 km² (4,810,034 miles²)
yet Australia has four-times the number of national parks than the USA
size of China = 9,598,000 km² (5,963,920 miles²) and they have three-times the number of national parks than the USA
p.s. Size of South Korea is only 100,000 km²
(62,137 miles²) but it has twice as many people than Australia –
sharing only 20 national parks.
The USA population is 311,591,917 which is 15 times greater than
Australia’s population (22,620,600) – but all those people have to share a quarter the number of national parks.
An overwhelming 72 per cent of Australians would vote for the Democrats’ Barack Obama if they had a vote in the US presidential election while a mere 5 per cent would choose the Republicans’ Mitt Romney.
That is because Australia is a much more left-leaning country than the US.
In fact, the entire developed world, as it happens, naturally incline to a Democrat world view more than a Republican one.
Vote for Obama and get more national parks!
Can someone tell me though, why he didn’t close Guantanamo, even though that was one of his major election promises – and why he won the Nobel peace prize?
Can someone tell me though, why he didn’t close Guantanamo, even though that was one of his major election promises – and why he won the Nobel peace prize?
He won the Nobel Peace Prize because he went to Europe and kissed a bunch of butt. He didn’t close Guantanamo because he had graduated kindergarten and finally realized that if he closed it, he would have to move all the terrorists somewhere, but no one wanted a bunch of terrorists in their backyard.

The entire developed world gets its views of the Democrat and Republican parties filtered to them through their own media, which in turn gets its views from the United States’ lying, manipulative journolists and entertainment industries. Of course the Democrats are favored 72% to 5% — all cool, smart, young and vibrant people are Democrats while Republicans are old, stupid, or evil (or all three).
If they’re liking Pres. Obama that much, it should be noted that they are all welcome to him. And as luck would have it, Barack looks to be available from next January!
I don’t know about Republicans being “old, stupid, or evil,” but the RNC audience appears to be nearly all white. Karl Rove once remarked, “As people do better, they start voting like Republicans – unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing.”. I do think, Brendon, that you underestimate the ability of foreign media to form their own unfiltered views of our presidential candidates. UK tabloid Daily Mail has despised Obama since he got into office, but rather than giving glowing coverage of his Republican opponent, they deride him as a buffoon after he proved himself to be one on his visit to London.

And how did Romney prove himself to be a “buffoon”? By mentioning a concern the British press had already expressed? Or was it something else? Can you give us a quote of his buffoonery, Sonagi?

What realy put me off about young progressives around the world is their sick penchant for facial hair, their undescriable sense of style and let’s not mention for Christ sake the roster of shitty hipster bands they generally enjoy listening to
“while Republicans are old, stupid, or evil (or all three).”
Definitely all three.
I’m way more right wing than an average American Republican and while i’ll promptly concede i’m not the sharpest knife in town, i’m neither evil nor old: i just entered my middle age
I notice you did not give me his buffoonish quote. Why? And none of the newspapers to which you linked gave his quote. Why? Anyway, here is what he said:
“The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging.
So, his buffoonish remark was to mention concerns the British press had already mentioned?
Just because the British press are buffoons does not mean Romney is one. Why would those papers criticize his remarks without quoting his remarks? Because if they had quoted Romney, people would have realized that that the newspaper was saying the same thing just a few days earlier.
The UK media did quote Romney direct in some reports along with PM Cameron’s sharp retort:
“We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world,” said the Prime Minister. “Of course it’s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.”
It is the British media who are being jerks. Here is how they quoted him:
Elevating his tendency for gaffes to the international stage, Mr Romney said that because of concerns about security, it was “hard to know just how well it will turn out”.
Tendency for gaffes to the international stage? What tendency? Also, Romney didn’t say “that because of concerns about security, it was ….”
Why did they quote him out of order? Why not provide the full quote or, at least, quote him in order? Because they are being jerks.
Here is Romney’s full answer to Brian William’s question:
Williams: “In the short time you have been here in London, do they look ready to your experienced eye?
Romney: “You know it is hard to know just how well it will turn out. There are a few things that were disconcerting. The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging. Because in the games there are three parts that make games successful. Number one, of course, are the athletes. That’s what overwhelmingly the games are about. Number two are the volunteers, and they’ll have great voluntees here. But number three are the people of the country. Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment? And that is something we only find out once the games actually begin.
How does Romney’s so-called gaffe compare with Obama’s gaffes?
“I know when things are tough as they have been for the last three-and-a-half, four years people begin to think it’s always … [inaudible] … WE ARE NOT JAPN. We are not going to be a nation that suffers in decline and distress for a decade or a century. We’re on the cusp of a very different economic future than the one people have seen over the past three years.”
“People should marry across national and cultural boundaries with people from countries they consider to be their enemies so that the world of peace can come that much more quickly.”
Hmm… I would just like to see all Koreans and Japanese marry each other.
Thanks for the link – enjoyed the pics. One question, though – why do you suppose there were Taiwanese flags with Korea and American ones? I was trying to remember what sort of official connection all three had (other than having American troops stationed in both) and couldn’t come up with any.
The pic with Sarge and his likker /licker is hilarious.
Chiang Kai Shek wanted to get into the war, but was turned down. nevertheless the ROC did have small contingents in country from time to time for training.
That’s a possible explanation too, and perhaps the most likely one. Most of the Chinese troops who fought in Korea were former members of the Nationalist army captured by the Chicoms in the chinese civil war and cynically sent to Korea by Mao specifically to die.
My favorite picture is the one of the sport posing with his 45 with a cigarette hanging on his lip a la James Dean. That and the one of the soldier getting the spout delousing can put down his uniform blouse.
Mitt Romney: “I know how to build something from nothing”
Mitt grew up living in public housing(governor’s mansion), a local businessman invested in his future(his auto executive/Michigan governor dad), then there was Vietnam so Mitt Romney volunteered(got a student deferment) to serve in France where he bravely fought the French people’s love of wine, from there he fought the odds to attend Harvard – decided not to use taxpayer money to fund his education and instead sought the sponsorship of a local businessman(his father),
From Harvard he went to Bain Capitol where he learned how to siphon money, after that he ended up single handedly saving the 2002 Olympics(with 1.5 billion dollars from congress). He became the Mass. Governor and started building himself for the future. In 2002 he proclaimed to be a moderate Republican with progressive views, he protected the rights of women to choose, then in 2008 he wanted guns off the street, but he had built himself the wrong way. In 2011 he became pro-life and pro gun, after all that he was transformed – ALL BY HIMSELF – he’s now a reconstructed presidential nominee.
The Daily Show’s producers and writers all were cast-offs from the failed leftist radio network Air America. They are as biased as Fox News.
Funny, the Daily Show did this piece where they sent their black female correspondent to the Republican convention in search of black people, which she had a hard time finding.
I once went to a taping of the daily show. There were about 250 people in line. They were 100% white. Not a single black person. I guess the Daily Show is racist, too. Right?
In his High School days, Barak Obama was leader of a pot smoking club called the Choom Gang. The name is a Hawaiian slang term for toking. He thanked the Choom Gang in his yearbook but not his parents. By all accounts he did not study. How then did he get into Columbia University, which is one of the most selective colleges in America?
Obama’s record at Columbia is a mystery. He has never released his transcripts and no students or teachers have a memory of him. There are accounts that he was also heavily into drugs at the time and had severe academic deficiencies. He is also believed to have been accepted because he claimed to be a foreign citizen and native of Africa on his application. What is known, however, is that at best he was a mediocre to poor student. How then did he get into Harvard, the most selective law school in America?
Barak Obama got into Harvard Law, not because of his academic credentials, which were mediocre to poor. After graduating from Columbia, he went to Chicago and made friends with powerful members in the leftist elite, who helped pull the strings that got him into Harvard.
Barak Obama never worked hard for anything. Even his alleged time as a community activist was largely a no-show type of job that involved more networking than actual work.
Ex-Ex-Pat: I wonder if you watched the 2004 episode of CNN Crossfire on which Jon Stewart appeared a few years ago.
Jon made the interesting point that the Daily Show is a comedy program, whereas Fox News presents itself as a news network. To try to compare the two as being biased, seems to be a false equivalence.
Hamel, I saw the interview.. He calls Fox News biased. They return the charge, and Steward responds, hey, I am just a comedy show.
I watch more John Stewart than Fox News. I understand that they have clearly different mission statements. One is news and the other is entertainment. But Stewart is a political weapon as much as is Fox.
Sure. The personal is political. I think it is a fair response, though, because the Daily Show is at least openly a comedy, whereas Bill O’Reilly (couldn’t remember his name for a minute, so got it by Googling fox news tells interviewee to shut up) is secretly so.
Obama wears just as much makeup as Obama. He is famous for altering his shade to appear darker than in he is to be considered more authentically black.
Romney’s Dad started out poor and did not go to college. He started a dry wall installation business. He was a success and moved on to managing auto companies and then to politics.
Mitt may have used his Dad’s contacts, but there are many, many sons of wealth and privilege that are drug addicts and failures. See the current crop of Kennedys.
Obama had much more “privilege” than Romney. He never worked a day in his life. He was criticized in both the Illinois State Senate and the U.S. Senate for being far more interested in media events and speeches than in making laws.
“Authentic?” I think this statement says about all anyone needs to know about why you dislike Obama. You and the rest of the Republican lynch mob can do your best to make Obama a “one term president” (even by continuing to undermine the American economy and people) but you ain’t going to succeed with that Popsicle stick man Mitt(en).
Lynch mob? Give me a break. There is post after post of low blows against Romney. And the second I return a little fire, toss a few stones at Obama, out it comes. The race card. Sad that your quiver of ideas is so threadbare.
It is a simple fact that Obama wears more makeup than Romney and that he darkens his skin. I did not bring up the topic of makeup. I think the topic shows how absurd the criticisms of Romney are. All politicians wear gobs of makeup. But a number of posters here act like Romney invented it and Obama hits the campaign trail au natural.
I don’t hate Obama. I don’t dislike him. He is decent person. Just a bad president. I am responding to the avalanche of lame, groupthink lefty potshots at Romney. Romney is the more qualified, more motivated candidate. Obama lost interest in the gig after the Greek columns from election night were taken down.
But you are probably right. I don’t see how Romney beats Obama. He starts election night with New York, California and Pennsylvania in his pocket. And Florida will likely go for Obama. Game. Set. Match.
Most of the Chinese troops in the korean war belonged to divisions from the south and southwest that were moved to Manchuria well before and prior to crossing the border. Mao planned well in advance
So, whom do you choose among these crooks? You have to look at what people are behind them. In other words, who are pushing buttons to make these clowns dance.
Shrink national debt? At this time? To bring deflation and possible depression? If that happens everyone, both Republican and Democrat, loses.
Do Reagan. Borrow, borrow, borrow and spend, spend and spend. Double the national debt. Or, even triple it.
Actually, we’re on the verge of a preference cascade which will produce an ideological shift where the choices will become between statism and liberty. The Democrats clearly represent statism. Some of the Republicans represent statism. This ideological shift will upset the balance between the parties, but if the Tea Party indeed captures the Republican Party, the GOP will come out on top.
Do Reagan. Borrow, borrow, borrow and spend, spend and spend. Double the national debt. Or, even triple it.
I have good news for you. In less than four years, President Awesome’s managed to increase the national debt by 60% from $10 trillion to $16 trillion. It seems guaranteed that if he’s reelected he will have doubled the debt (and then some!) — and this despite his firm promise to cut the annual deficit in half by the end of his first term, which date fast approaches.
“I think the topic shows how absurd the criticisms of Romney are. All politicians wear gobs of makeup. But a number of posters here act like Romney invented it and Obama hits the campaign trail au natural.”
Had he not been a gay basher (i.e. criminal) in high school he may be able to find a gay guy willing to do his makeup so that he wouldn’t look like a circus clown every day.
That’s right: Pay you no mind to the fact that Obama is on course to increase our deficit by 120-150% over its level when he was elected. Romney’s makeup looks worse!
I think Romney will win this. I’m not sure of it and it’s basically just a gamble, but i’m available to bet a nice dinner in Seoul (next time i’m there) that Obama is going to loose.
Just looking at some facts:
-After 8 years of bad quality Republican leadership and an initial enormous political capital to squander, the very fact this election is contendable gives a good idea of the quality of the current leadership.
- Romney seem to have now a money advantage
-The economy is in much worse shape than reported. Inflation is probably higher than the CPI, unemployment is much higher than reported, lots of job creation appears to be birth/death model hocus pocus, seasonal adjustments etc. etc. This trend didn’t start under President Obama, it has been noticed though how in the past few years manipulation of economic numbers has become rampant
-The Republican base is way more energised now than they were just a few months ago, while, judging from comments on the interwebs, the democratic fanclub is angry, letdown and sometimes downright hysterical and neurotic
- Dems are running a campaign mostly based on smearing the other side, instead of their own merits. Clinton for instance never did that. Running on a “Vote for me cos the other guy sucks more” platform doesn’t seem like a great choice for an incumbent
- Many of the attacks carried out on Romney (he was a gay basher in HS, he’s robotic, he wears make up, he was born rich etc. etc.) are downright frivolous and inane. News for you libs: nobody gives a shit
- jkitchen, imho the dumbest poster here, forecast an easy victory for the Dems. He’s my favourite contra-indicator
I see a lot of supporters for President Fail on this thread. I heard his latest argument is “give me a second chance.” Oooh, that’ll sway those indie voters.
I’m sure Jon Stewart will bash the Demcocratic convention just as much as the GOP one. I mean, no comedian is afraid to make fun of the Choomster, right?
The 2 candidates are petty much still tied at this point, while there are still lots of indie and undecided voters. This is a demographic that rarely favour a shaky incumbent and probably lean a bit more on the conservative side of the spectrum.
Whoever wanted to vote donkey pretty much already made up their mind. Reps have still a potential basin of voters to dig…and the money to do it
Bob Dylan’s newest, the (loosely) Titanic-themed “Tempest,” gets 5 stars from Mojo and 10/10 from Uncut — the two best rock magazines in the English language (IMO). Anybody check it out yet?
I haven’t paid much attention to Zimmy in a decade or so.
YangachiBastardo,
YangachiBastardo: “I know how to build something from nothing.”
Children call people names to build themselves up, just like you tried to. Aren’t you the one who fell down drunk and broke his foot? Be careful when you call people names, you can’t be the brightest bulb out there.
I see a lot of supporters for President Fail on this thread. I heard his latest argument is “give me a second chance.” Oooh, that’ll sway those indie voters.
We’ve been lying in wait on that one. Look for this at least year-old image to become a popular sign. Perhaps the new Joker!
The supplier relationship has been strengthened over the past year. Samsung is spending $4bn upgrading a factory in Texas that makes application processors that Apple uses in its iPad and iPhone.
Why not Apple invest to domestic production instead of China?
“Many of the attacks carried out on Romney (he was a gay basher in HS, he’s robotic, he wears make up, he was born rich etc. etc.) are downright frivolous and inane. News for you libs: nobody gives a shit”
I got news for you dear, people do care and image does count. I am not just talking about his bad make up or his past. Mitt(en’s) has a bigger “image” problem. The majority of Americans can’t relate to him and he sure as hell can’t relate to them.
Withholding his tax records…homes with elevators for cars. I am sure most Americans are confident he will vastly improve the economy. The problem is they also know that he will improve the economy and a select few will benefit from it.
Unless, he can change that image (he can’t) he has a big problem.
Creo: let me rephrase it, only people who care about these “allegations” are people who wouldn’t vote for him anyway.
They are specular to all the stories about Obama youth: the only people who care would never vote Dem.
This election, like most elections in developed countries, will be decided by moderate, centrist, indipendents.
This group might be closer to Obama in terms of views on social issues, but closer to Romney/Ryan on the economy.
IMHO the economy (which is way more piss-poor than what the media complex report) will decide everything.
That’s why i forecast a Romey victory: hard-core dems and hard-core reps will kinda even out eachother, other more fickle groups (youth, some minorities like the Asians etc.) who heavily favoured Obama will desert the ballots in greater numbers, indies will overwhelmingly go with Romney.
“They are specular to all the stories about Obama youth: the only people who care would never vote Dem.”
You are confusing “stories” with “facts” supported by proof. Romney does have an elevator in his home and isn’t ashamed to admit it. He also isn’t ashamed (to hide) to refuse to release his tax returns from the past.
Americans are smart enough to know the difference between “stories” and “facts” …. give us a bit of credit. Stories are not going to be the downfall (not that he has really climbed that high anyway) of Mitt(ens), his mouth spewing facts that he is too stupid to realize will sink him (because he can’t relate to 99.9% of Americans and can’t imagine why anyone would see a problem) will.
Most of the Chinese troops in the korean war belonged to divisions from the south and southwest that were moved to Manchuria well before and prior to crossing the border. Mao planned well in advance.
The troops he used were nationalists, many already based in Manchuria. He hated and distrusted them because they had been Chiang Kai-shek’s solders, so he was quite happy to send them to Korea to be slaughtered.
Many of the attacks carried out on Romney (he was a gay basher in HS, he’s robotic, he wears make up, he was born rich etc. etc.) are downright frivolous and inane. News for you libs: nobody gives a shit
Many of attacks carried out against both candidates are frivolous and inane, intended to entertain us, rather than inform us and provoke us to think and talk about important issues that matter. In defense of Romney’s $12 million elevator, his wife may need it one day if her MS progresses and leaves her unable to walk. At least the $12 million elevator did create some jobs in this country. Over at ROK Drop, commenter JoeC has some great posts expressing the view that the presidential campaign has become an almost a circus-like show to distract us from what goes on in Congress, whose activities are sometimes as secret as the White House visitors’ logs. Petty-minded people who fret about college records or a dog on a car roof are part of the problem. My voting choices for president and for Congress will be based exclusively on prior political decisions and campaign platforms. Nothing else. I wish my fellow Americans would do the same.

@ YB
If you really want to bet…online the best odds are Obama listed at 1.48 while Romney is at 2.9.
Those are pretty good odds for Obama to win considering the GOP just finished their convention….
“Create jobs” “End dependency on foreign oil” Aren’t these the issues politicians are supposed to be talking about? Would you prefer he “freeball it” a little and maybe campaign on “a chicken in every pot” for a bit?
Come to think of it, “a chicken in every pot” sounds like something Mitt(ens) might campaign on in an attempt to appease us peasants so Obama stay clear of that one.
Many of attacks carried out against both candidates are frivolous and inane
Agreed

Sad and very true, substitute Congess with the European Commission and pretty much it’s the same shit here…our democracies have been emptied

Yes with renewables black magic instead of developing domestic fossil fuel reserves and investing in new generation nuke power plants, sounds like an awesome plan

What is wrong with renewable? You do realize the sun comes out every day right? Might just as well use it for something besides tanning (bad for the skin).
Even without further development, current renewable energy sources would be just fine if people learned to live a little differently. Imagine the possibilities of this when combined with advances in technology. The use of fossil fuels would be about as appealing as cooking your dinner in a fire pit each night.
Aren’t these the issues politicians are supposed to be talking about? Would you prefer he “freeball it” a little and maybe campaign on “a chicken in every pot” for a bit?
Only the laziest flimflam man, or grade-school plagiarist, can’t be bothered to even make a cursory attempt to mix up the verbiage. Anyway, I find it amusing to hear Romney derided as robotic when President Awesome quite literally resembles one of those pull-cord talking dolls that spits out canned phrases, and achieves much the same result as the doll.
Barack says he admires Abraham Lincoln. I think it was the part about fooling some of the people all of the time.
Well what is essentially wrong with renewables ? Simply right now they’re not viable, their net energy yield (when you factor in the production process of the equipment) is very low, and their cost very high.
Now i’m not against funding research at University level for the long-term future (as UlsanChris correctly pointed out) but i’m against subsidizing a whole fake market of pseudo-private, politically connected entrepreneurs unable to turn a profit on their own.
Let alone the fact that China is cornering the market for panels and turbines, among the many factors cos they hold a near-monopoly on rare earths supply…that’s what we need no ? Another trade deficit and dependent relationship with China.
And i’m in favour of developing nuclear andd domestic fossil fuels as much as possible, and as freely as possibile, until a better alternative comes along.
PS
I hold pretty much the same views about the corn ethanol scam
PPS
You really think that “people learning to live a little differently” would make any kind of difference when 1.3+ billion Chinese people are roaring toward modernity, soon to be followed by a 1+ bllion Indians ?
RolyPoly @196
I totally agree that Romney cannot be trusted. Except…
It’s not like Hopey the Clown is any different. In fact, Hopey has been trampling our Constitution and ruining the country for four years running. He’s so bad even the Lefties are starting to notice:
Just saw that Chinese zoo feeding time video… OK I don’t get it. They tie the mauled, half-alive cow to the truck and pull it out of the Tiger’s yard.. why? Are they going to let the cow recover and then use it again later? What’s the point?
As for the Clint Eastwood empty chair routine… I read the reviews before watching it, and expected a complete fiasco. But, honestly, after watching it, although he departed from the official platform a few times, and the although the dialogue with the chair was kind of dumb, it was just kind of an average speech overall. But, what’s funny is the eagerness of the Romney campaign, particularly Romney’s wife, to throw him under the bus. She said the speech was ‘unique,’ and ‘they didn’t know what the chair was for.’ It really is not a big deal, but their reaction just makes it an even bigger deal. They invited him after all, and put him in the all important prime time slot, and gave him free license without checking on what he would do. Yet a few people make fun of him and they immediately distance themselves and deny all responsibility. They need to grow a pair.
iMe,
I don’t care about Obeme. He is a crook too, being a front man for Chicago clan.
However, Romney getting away with not revealing his tax record is the lowest of the low. It puts all honest American taxpayers to be stupid morons who pay honest tax to American government.
What we allow next? A person who will not reveal his criminal records?
Do these guys belong in a special class so that an average American like me cannot ask him to reveal his tax record? Is America in a de-facto dictatorship where a special class is exempt from everything?
Thank you, Yangachi, for avoiding petty trifles about public speaking styles and explaining issues of substance like renewable energy.
It is a matter of substance that the President has no new ideas and is only capable of parroting whatever’s on the TelePrompTer. As the evil mastermind Mitt Romney asks, why should we think anything would be different if we reelect this guy?
“Well what is essentially wrong with renewables ? Simply right now they’re not viable, their net energy yield (when you factor in the production process of the equipment) is very low, and their cost very high.”
Exactly why we need to invest money to turn the equation around. We have done it with fossil fuels (increased energy yields dramatically) and can do it with renewables.
“You really think that “people learning to live a little differently” would make any kind of difference when 1.3+ billion Chinese people are roaring toward modernity, soon to be followed by a 1+ bllion Indians ?”
Thank you for supporting my point. With this number of people coming online fossil fuels will be depleted. Even advances in technology will not extend their lives. And yes, “people learning to live a little differently” is one of the major keys to future energy solutions.
It is a matter of substance that the President has no new ideas and is only capable of parroting whatever’s on the TelePrompTer.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you want intelligent, accountable presidents, you need Question Time, ala the Westminster system. I’m sure plenty of Republicans would want nothing more than to grill Obama on his performance, just like plenty of Dems would have liked to have made Bush explain himself when he was flapping about the Middle East.
Hon Hai CEO Mr. Terry Gou had stated “I respect the Japanese and especially like their execution and communication styles. Unlike the Koreans, they will never stab you in the back.”[Source] Now Mr. Gou tries to stab in Sharp’s back.
Sometimes Q makes decent points. Now, those higher quality points are obscured by a lot of chaff he throws out there…. almost to the point of irrelevance.
Q posts some respectable links, but his interpretations are usually wrong and his motives are always vile. In any case, other than folks who love to take the piss they watch Koreans go gaga over an island they already firmly hold, Bevers and Frogmouth are the only non-disputants on the planet who care about Dokdo and they are amateur scribblers best appreciated in very small doses. At best, Q is very poor intellectual company to keep — even anonymously and in cyberspace.
slim does not hate Korea. He is a critic in the mold of one from the Western world. This sometimes means few things are sacred and punches are generally not pulled. His is critical, not hateful.
I do have to thank Q for that video of extreme right wingers in Japan trying to scare off patrons at Korean stores. That was eye opening. It must have been like that a lot more often for the Zainichi back in the 50′s and 60′s.
Where’s everyone’s outrage at that clip? They are virtually using hate language. Where is the outrage?
I don’t think this particular procession was that bad. (well, at least from looking at the video)
In a previous thread, Bendrix linked to another video where a right-wing Japanese asshat was harrassing a middle-aged Korean woman on a street.
Cowards.
Gerry Bevers is such a brazen liar. How could he have thought he could get away with it?
I just finished writing about your post over at the Marmot’s Hole, where they do not generally like to read comments about the Takeshima/Dokdo dispute. I will not debate it there and do not recommend that anyone here do either

I think the white Americans will be less surprised than the black and brown Americans.
WangKon936 #76:
They are shamefule and scary, mindless people. A big shame. They are sometimes actually yelling “you die”; “We will kill you” would certainly be illegal. Korean store owners are ignoring them mostly in a respectable, civilized manner. They are saying something like there used to be collaborates of North Korean kidnapping among Japanese residents of Korean descent and that thus without them Japan would be a better place, “get out.” Certainly, Japan would be a better place if these mindless Korea haters get out (to where?) or just disappear. Please do not think bystanders did nothing because they approved of them; they did not want to get harmed, at least that’s what I would feel if I were there.
Q:
I could not help but smirk when I read how you were trying to explain the NIDA practice. I guess you did it well and it showed how well you knew about it. And the DEATH thing… is that your invention? I hope it works.
“Please do not think bystanders did nothing because they approved of them; they did not want to get harmed, at least that’s what I would feel if I were there.”
mickster,
Yes, but what did the cops do? Is outright intimidation of minorities legal in Japan?
Outright intimidation or blackmailing of anybody is illegal.
Just yelling to get out or even racist slogans regrettably does not constitue illegality. I guess it would in many U.S. states or European countires. I admit we are too soft in that regard.
As to what cops were actually doing, I could only guess; they were probably watching ready to make arrests if someone said “I will kill you” or anybody turned violent.
Watching the appalling video, you rightly wonder why police do nothing to stop them. But think of a situation in Korea, in which anti-Japanese folks gather in front of a Japanese shop or walk through a Japanese enclave, if there is any, yelling monkeys get out and burning Japanese flags. Would cops stop them if they do not turn violent?
I do not think I do a good job of explaining, but let me stop here by saying it’s not my intention to defend any ant-whatever-ethinic-group actions. Anti-Japan/Korea rallies in front of an embasy would be a much sounder form of protest.

Second, Bro.
Out of moderation to grab third, bitches!
Doesn’t “first bro” mean the same as “second son”?
Not if the elder sibling is a daughter.

I’m thinking about buying a new keyboard so I can make music:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Avid+-+M-Audio+KeyStudio+49-Key+Keyboard/1053827.p?id=1218215102223&skuId=1053827&st=keyboard&cp=1&lp=4
Can’t wait to get started. Hoping to make this my new hobby/second job.
No way the dems can top this one, Well done Repugnicans!!!!!!
edit, lap dance for Michael Steele, too much gatorade today
Romney with a red tie and heavy makeup looked very much like…MickeyMouse.
He talked like the Disney Character, head bouncing up and down, left and right as he spoke. His voice sound like a jolly Donald Duck.
D’ya think he hired a former Disney personnel for his speech training? I think so.
Mitt and Ryan look like a team of street hustlers.
I wouldn’t buy a used car from them.
Republicans used to elect some somber and professional politicians. Mitt and Ryan look light-weight in brain.
Too Jolly. Too amateur.
Obama this time. And, Jeb Bush in 2016.
Republicans are playing it wrong.
As I wrote before, the one and only true king-maker in the US is Ben Bernanke. But too long, the Greed party had ridiculed and threatened Ben.
So, today, Ben decided to help Obeme by printing more money and make economy look good around November.
The Racist party’d better know that you don’t mess with the real force in America – the Fed Reserve Bank. The money men.
The marmot whisperer? Any relation to the marmot blogger, I wonder?
http://io9.com/5939385/science-demands-that-you-stop-calling-this-kid-the-marmot-whisperer
Clint was awesome!
UlsanChris:
OBAMA 2012!
Lordy, I am sitting here and I am actually starting to feel a little sorry for Korea Inc.

WHAT THE FUCK! And in case anyone thinks the beginning is bad hang in till about 5:18
What the hell is wrong with people?
I’m not even gonna watch this.
I meant to say Bush 2 bears much of the recent responsibility.
Paul Ryan can’t even tell the truth about his marathon time:

Ulsanchris:
P. P. S.
“There ARE some very intelligent people at this site BUT…”
“In fact, get a girl pregnant and learn real responsibility/manhood…”
I think your second statement put you in your own “BUT” category of posters on this blog.

We need Reagan right now.
“Because Reagan pumped.”
Yeh, those Republicans sure do enjoy pumping us.
Actually, its 11:30 on a Saturday night and I am all alone. I could use Reagan right now!
Secondly, read Japan’s 1837 Policy on Foreign Voyages: Passage to Ulleungdo Banned by the Shogunate.
Thirdly, note this Japanese organization is behind the Japanese propaganda.

I think one thing I took away from the RNC was that Romney is a robot.
Gawd.. can’t we produce any better candidates?
jk: i don’t think Romney is such a strong candidate either, but there’ one thing i don’t uderstannd.
He’s always blamed for being robotic: i personally don’t see anything wrong with that.
He’s supposed to lead a super-power, not to be a nice guy.
Personaly i don’t care if a potential leader is an asshole, lack empathy, he/she is not particularly humorous and witty etc. etc.
They’re supposed to be statists, not our drinking buddies
YB,
I’m sure Romney is well-qualified to be president. (unlike Obama was)
It’s just that his personality doesn’t help his electability.
It doesn’t matter how well-qualified he is, if a significant percentage of the population thinks he’s an alien from another planet.
I just wish Romney had more human charisma.
Nice work, jkitchstk @ 25.

DLB,
Hummm…. okay, I didn’t read the rest of the thread.

The great thing about the US is that you can be cool and trash Republicans in front of your friends and then go into the booth and vote for them.
T-Mobile is German service company, not American. At&t and Sprint are American service companies.

Lies and distortions are the definition of Republican, he will be fine.
Answer to Gerry Bevers:

“In so ruling, the court found Kolon’s conduct to be ‘brazen,’ adding that ‘Kolon’s conduct shows a complete disregard for DuPont’s trade secret rights and a disregard for the law that protects such secrets.’ At Kolon, the judge held, misappropriation of DuPont’s trade secrets was ‘a matter of corporate policy.’ A full production injunction is warranted because ‘the Court has no confidence that Kolon could be relied upon to police its own activities.’”

For Pawi – you are not well-rounded; maybe Apple *did* invent round edges in computerland:
http://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?story=Round_Rects_Are_Everywhere.txt

My interest was because
size of USA = 9,827,000 km² (6,106,214 miles²) of which 1,718,000 km² (1,067,520 miles²) is actually Alaska
so USA without Alaska = 8,709,000 km² (5,411,521 miles²)
size of Australia = 7,741,000 km² (4,810,034 miles²)
yet Australia has four-times the number of national parks than the USA
size of China = 9,598,000 km² (5,963,920 miles²) and they have three-times the number of national parks than the USA
This might be easier for you to understand…

so USA without Alaska = 8,709,000 km² (5,411,521 miles²)
USA population is 311,591,917
It has 58 National Parks.
The size of Australia = 7,741,000 km² (4,810,034 miles²)
Australia’s population is 22,620,600
It has 516 National Parks.
The size of China = 9,598,000 km² (5,963,920 miles²)
China population is 1,344,130,000
It has 185 National Parks.
The size of South Korea is only 99,392 km² (62,137 miles²)
South Koreas population is 49,779,000
It has 20 National Parks.
The US does it with state parks, of which, for example, my native Pennsylvania, a space a bit smaller than te ROK, has 120.
US = 5,372,274 persons per national park.
US also has 2,300 islands – larger than 500 square meters
That’s 135,474 persons per island.
Australia = 43,838 persons per national park.
Australia has 8,222 islands – larger than 500 square meters
That’s 2,751 persons per island.
China = 7,265,567 persons per national park.
China has 6,961 islands – larger than 500 square meters
That’s 193,094 persons per island.
Korea = 2,488,950 person per national park.
Korea has 4,200 islands – larger than 500 square meters
That’s 11,852 persons per island.
There are 6,624 state park units in the United States,
State parks have a lesser degree of significance and protection (for instance, they are frequently logged)
Obviously Congress is more powerful than the President.

“while Republicans are old, stupid, or evil (or all three).”
Definitely all three.

Tendency for gaffes to the international stage? What tendency? Also, Romney didn’t say “that because of concerns about security, it was ….”
Why did they quote him out of order? Why not provide the full quote or, at least, quote him in order? Because they are being jerks.

@139
@140
Sperwer, are you sure? I read that the Chinese army that fought in Korean war were mostly from Manchuria.
O’Reilly has a sense of humor, but that is not what I think you are saying when you say he is “secretly” a comedy.

Tell Romney to take easy on makeup. He looks “painted”.
Maybe that is who he is. A makeup.
Bain capital success probably was the payoff from his father’s “friends”.
That is how these things work.

Correction: Obama wears more make up than Romney. He darkens his skin to appear more authentic.
“He darkens his skin to appear more authentic.”
Game. Set. Match.
@144
Most of the Chinese troops in the korean war belonged to divisions from the south and southwest that were moved to Manchuria well before and prior to crossing the border. Mao planned well in advance
Ex-Ex-Pat,
Construction business? I guess that is where he hooked with the “right people” – mobs.
A Republican won’t win the Presidential election until 2024, if that. You heard it here first! Republicans are now that alien to Americans.
Politicians are all dirty.
Real honest people do not stay in politics.
Obeme has been playing Republican theme doing next to nothing about reviving American economy. Too weak.
America wants a strong leader. He’d better go crazy in the second term and do Reagan dance. Otherwise, he would be remembered as a ninny.
Romney might be able to pull Reagan on Republicans.
I guess there is justice in the world
That’s right: Pay you no mind to the fact that Obama is on course to increase our deficit by 120-150% over its level when he was elected.
So who’s gonna take the other side of the bet ?
I see a lot of supporters for President Fail on this thread. I heard his latest argument is “give me a second chance.” Oooh, that’ll sway those indie voters.
I’m sure Jon Stewart will bash the Demcocratic convention just as much as the GOP one. I mean, no comedian is afraid to make fun of the Choomster, right?
Wedge is right, i forgot this other point:
The 2 candidates are petty much still tied at this point, while there are still lots of indie and undecided voters. This is a demographic that rarely favour a shaky incumbent and probably lean a bit more on the conservative side of the spectrum.
Whoever wanted to vote donkey pretty much already made up their mind. Reps have still a potential basin of voters to dig…and the money to do it

Obama 2012
Result ? Romney wins
Hey i may be easily wrong
Never claimed to be
“They are specular to all the stories about Obama youth: the only people who care would never vote Dem.”
The troops he used were nationalists, many already based in Manchuria. He hated and distrusted them because they had been Chiang Kai-shek’s solders, so he was quite happy to send them to Korea to be slaughtered.

Yes with renewables black magic instead of developing domestic fossil fuel reserves and investing in new generation nuke power plants, sounds like an awesome plan
How ?
“Yes with renewables black magic instead of developing domestic fossil fuel”
What is wrong with renewable? You do realize the sun comes out every day right? Might just as well use it for something besides tanning (bad for the skin).
Even without further development, current renewable energy sources would be just fine if people learned to live a little differently. Imagine the possibilities of this when combined with advances in technology. The use of fossil fuels would be about as appealing as cooking your dinner in a fire pit each night.
Oh Lord we open a can of worms here:

You really think that “people learning to live a little differently” would make any kind of difference when 1.3+ billion Chinese people are roaring toward modernity, soon to be followed by a 1+ bllion Indians ?
Even in a backward country like Korea, nobody can run for presidency without making his tax record public.
Darkness over America when a candidate evil enough to tell people to shut up about his tax returns. No one knows what he will do in secret.
The guy is a crook.

I totally agree that Romney cannot be trusted. Except…
It’s not like Hopey the Clown is any different. In fact, Hopey has been trampling our Constitution and ruining the country for four years running. He’s so bad even the Lefties are starting to notice:
http://truth-out.org/opinion/item/11264-john-cusack-and-jonathan-turley-on-obamas-constitution
Thank you, Yangachi, for avoiding petty trifles about public speaking styles and explaining issues of substance like renewable energy.
Romney is a crook. And, a jerk.
Maybe Romney did more than cheat on his tax payment.
The tax record may reveal more sinister side of him. Could he be paying off some mobsters, or a child out of wedlock?
He is a jerk. American public should not let him get away with it.
The Chinese are dirty bastards.

Without Jesus’ cleasing blood, humans are just dirty bastards. China, Japan, Korea..even the US.
This is why the US has to release liquidity.

This “driverless” car is as big as PC revolution. The US has to be the first in this new area of technology. These cars will lead to robots as well.
Google should be the biggest car company in the US in coming days. This is THE INDUSTRY the US has to concentrate on.
This is the future. For America and for the human race.

“Obeme”?
It is a matter of substance that the President has no new ideas and is only capable of parroting whatever’s on the TelePrompTer. As the evil mastermind Mitt Romney asks, why should we think anything would be different if we reelect this guy?
#209
Obeme is a city in Abala, Plateaux, Republic of the Congo, Africa
so, Roly is just being a racist “Christian” by using that term.
Does this paean to the Leader come from the New York Times or Pyongyang Times? Hard to tell.

BBC reports Hon Hai seeks direct role in Sharp’s operations whilst Sharp has had its credit rating cut to “junk” status by ratings agency Standard & Poor’s.
Hon Hai CEO Mr. Terry Gou had stated “I respect the Japanese and especially like their execution and communication styles. Unlike the Koreans, they will never stab you in the back.”[Source] Now Mr. Gou tries to stab in Sharp’s back.
Q needs to start his own blog, for the 2 people who care to watch him masturbate on Japan.
With this much Q around the Marmot’s Hole, the quality goes down to Chinese 50-cent levels.
slim, it is not about Japan. It’s about Mr. Terry Gou.
The news about Mr. Terry Gou is relevant at TMH because Oranckay and Mr. Marmot had posted “Foxconn’s chairman attacks Koreans” and “Foxconn’s head bashes Koreans,” respectively in June, 2012.
Correction: BBC link – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19434168
slim,
Sometimes Q makes decent points. Now, those higher quality points are obscured by a lot of chaff he throws out there…. almost to the point of irrelevance.
Q,
Hyung says sometimes less is more. Less is more.
At best, Q is very poor intellectual company to keep — even anonymously and in cyberspace.
take the piss AS they watch
@WK,
I would appeciate your advice. I will take that into my account.
@slim,
Why do you hate Korea so much?
Q,
slim does not hate Korea. He is a critic in the mold of one from the Western world. This sometimes means few things are sacred and punches are generally not pulled. His is critical, not hateful.
jk6411,
I do have to thank Q for that video of extreme right wingers in Japan trying to scare off patrons at Korean stores. That was eye opening. It must have been like that a lot more often for the Zainichi back in the 50′s and 60′s.
Where’s everyone’s outrage at that clip? They are virtually using hate language. Where is the outrage?
WK,
I don’t think this particular procession was that bad. (well, at least from looking at the video)
In a previous thread, Bendrix linked to another video where a right-wing Japanese asshat was harrassing a middle-aged Korean woman on a street.
Cowards.
I also noticed that the video has more “dislike’s” than “like’s”.
I don’t know who voted what, but I guess that’s reassuring..
jk6411,
I was more concerned that those asshats could say what they were saying without a cop batting an eye.
WK,
Well, what can you say..
It’s Japan after all.
Korean cop goes the extra yard.

Imagine the surprise of rank and file white Americans when they walk into a Paris Baguette expecting to actually find French pastries when in actually they find Japanified, Koreanified, French pastries.

I hope it works.
mickster,
Yes, but what did the cops do?
