Extended Trailer to ‘Cloud Atlas’

The trailer to “Cloud Atlas” looks awesome, as does Bae Doo-na and Seoul in the year 2144 (I believe you can even see Mt. Namsan in one of the scenes):

Must confess, not especially comfortable with “Asianizing” white actors, but I’m guessing that’s relevant to the book, which I’ve never read.

The book is better than excellent, and if the film captures a tenth of that quality . . .

As the trailer implies, the same characters return reborn, to try in life again, and this accounts for the same actors and actresses in various ethnic roles.

Perhaps it’s a glimpse into Korea’s less-than-rainbow-coloured multi-ethnic future….

The book was amazing, so I’m (very) afraid that the film can only be a disappointment. All the more so since the Wachowskis are involved.

It bombed in the U.S., with a budget of about $100 million dollars it coughed up less than $10 million dollars on opening weekend/Oct. 26th and through Dec. 2nd has only cha-chinged about $26 million. I saw Tom Hanks on one of the late night talk shows a couple months ago and he didn’t honestly seem very confident in it. Needless to say the directors are in Seoul trying to suck money out of movie goers. Why aren’t Korean Christian groups demonstrating against the movie/Lana Wachowski for fear she will spread the gay disease while she’s in S. Korea?

“During the conference, Lana, who described her wife as a big fan of Korean food, said she first got to know Bae when she watched “Take Care of My Cat” (2001).”
