The Hankyoreh looks at the changing debate on dog meat in Korea.
We all know my stand on dog meat (although I didn’t know we ate Tosa mixes, which is interesting), and frankly, judging from sites of the groups quoted (see here, here and here), I suspect the critics’ may have issues with other meat products as well.
Still, give the piece a read.
And FYI, the chobok is Wednesday, jungbok is July 28, and malbok is Aug 7, and if you’re looking for restaurant suggestions…

And everyone knows my position, namely, that intelligent animals shouldn’t be eaten . . . which is why I always strive in my comments here to meet the standard for at least the requisite minimum level of intelligence not to be eaten.

I don’t know if your bark is worse than your bite, my esteemed JH (I suspect not, though), but if that’s your position, I wouldn’t ask The Korean to eat a dog’s breakfast to disprove it.
Somewhat different from your position, but…
It must be Christmas in July! RK has managed to squeeze in TMH’s biggest hits – Comfort Women, Dokdo and Dog Meat all in one week. English Teachers and T&A sprinkled on top. Wash, rinse, repeat?
And to think I never got a chance to post about calls for F-4 visa holders—i.e., gyopo—to submit drug tests and criminal records, too: http://www.etoday.co.kr/news/section/newsview.php?TM=news&SM=2203&idxno=607780
Korea is shocking for what animals (pets) are eaten in this country – only China is worse.
I came across “baby mouse wine” in a market in Seoul yesterday – the baby mice are taken from the mother as soon as they are born – and still with their pink skin and closed eyes they are popped into a bottle of wine – which is then left one year until their tiny bodies have deteriorated – and drunk by Koreans to cure “asthma”
All these stupid things such as eating cat soup and dog stew (and the Chinese eating bear arms, and racoons (which are skinned alive) etc – it’s a terrible thing – especially when there is much better scientific medicine to cure “asthma, impotence’ etc etc” without the need to kill helpless animals…
Terrible abuse – http://dok.do/OFJCTf

I think Kia is making a big mistake releasing its next sedan in export markets without changing the model name – the K9.
Chevy Nova.

“You can see it in the way Spanish bullfighting and foie gras have gone away.”
You lost me on that latter part, buddy.
Louis CK and I differ on a couple of small points: 1) he thinks eating any animal is wrong, and 2) he doesn’t care that it’s wrong.
He also differs from the Walrus, who eats oysters but cries over their fate:
“I weep for you,” the Walrus said, “I deeply sympathize.”
With sobs and tears, he sorted out those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket handkerchief before his streaming eyes . . .
Or so reports that famous 19th-century naturalist Lewis Carroll.
