UPP to expel two Assembly members

in South Korea

The leadership of the United Progressive Party rejected the final appeal of Lee Seok-Gi and Kim Jae-Yeon, two UPP Assembly members who were allegedly (but almost certainly) involved in rigging UPP’s primary votes to select the party’s proportional representative slate. The appeals of two other party members on the slate (who were not elected) were also denied. This means that after a final vote among the UPP Assembly members, the four UPP members will be expelled from the party.

TheKorean, did they hold the final vote yet? I guess they did, and they decided not to expel these two?

Because it looks like Lee Seok-Ki is still with the party, because he was kicked out of anti-FTA (with China) protest meeting by farmers today. The farmers were irate that a NK sympathizer who refuses to sing the South Korean national anthem attended their meeting. This is bad news for UPP if they start losing their traditional support over their base political ideology. If I’m correct, it’s UPP’s party policy not to sing the national anthem of South Korea.
