President Obama’s nominee for ambassador to Iraq is in hot water after emails were leaked of him engaging in some racy banter with a WSJ journalist who happened to be a Korean-American, hence the reason it’s at the Korea Times (and here):

The U.S. ambassador nominee to Iraq Brett McGurk, 39, has been in the whirlwind of a sex scandal, following the leakage online of his affair with a reporter four years ago in Baghdad.

At the time of the affair, McGurk, special assistant to then U.S. President George W. Bush, was already married, while Korean-American Gina Chon was covering the Iraq War for the Wall Street Journal in Baghdad. Now they are a couple.

He chased after her and signaled he could provide sensitive information using sexual words in email. Reports said that there may be videotape of McGurk having sex with Chon on the roof of Saddam Hussein’s Republican Palace.

Sex on the roof of Saddam Hussein’s Republican Palace. That’s dope.

Leave it up to the Daily Mail to fill in the details:

In one email McGurk wrote: ‘I had a very good day with the Iraqis — the best yet. Can’t tell you about it of course.’

Chon’s reply: ‘This is like a journalist’s version of blue balls and it’s really not fair.’

He fires back: ‘Well it’s only fair — since I had a very real case of blue balls last night!’ He goes onto mention ‘self-healing’ exercises to cure the problem.

Read the emails here. Funny, but not sure if any of this should sink the man’s nomination.

Is it just me and an oppressed barbarian complex, or is it really only the KT that covered her face and not his in this pic?

I didn’t notice that, but it is odd, no? Maybe worried she has family here?

3 oranckay June 12, 2012 at 3:23 pm

Not odd at all, if you know what I mean.

@1 Maybe because he is considered a public figure and she is not? I notice that in a lot of pictures of celebs/public figures, the regular people are digitized or not shown. Ryu Si Won’s divorce: http://news.nate.com/view/20120410n11855?mid=e0101
I think in the Miss Korea sex scandal, pictures of her accuser were not shown in Korean publications but hers were.

#2,
Well, I don’t know how to take this. Should I be offended by the implication that she’s somehow a victim? Or maybe should I Google her name and be amused when I see that she probably isn’t a femme fatale and so the picture was pixelated in order to make the story much more juicier?

#4,

I thought reporters were public figures.

Neither are particularly hot. Maybe the war zone does funky things to ones mind.

And that photo was taken after McGurk advanced his follicle front line with hair plugs.

According to the article I linked above, they are married now, and his previous wife was Asian, too. (read the snarky little comment by the Asian reporter that wrote this story)

What is it with white guys and ugly asian women?

Thanks for the correction.

I wouldn’t say ugly for her at all, but not hot. At least certainly not risk-your-marriage-and-career hot. But maybe hot for wartime Iraq?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

(Perhaps a cliche, but it’s true.)

Check out the jilted wife. WTF??? How long was McGurk stationed in Iraq that he couldn’t wait to get home to that?

19 WangKon936 June 13, 2012 at 4:57 am

Was that a recent picture?

20 Sonagi June 13, 2012 at 5:22 am

From her FB page. Maybe she separated from him before he started eyeing Chon.

Neither of ‘em look ugly to me…pretty much average people for their age.

I’m much uglier than this McGurk dope

Maybe she’s a fucked up nutcase.

My first marriage was to a 6’1” tall blonde ex Ford NYC model and well suffice to say when i was arrested and spent some quality time in Cook County jail, i was the happiest i’ve been through my marriage

Only half right. My wife ain’t ugly.

How long was McGurk stationed in Iraq that he couldn’t wait to get home to that?

What happens in the warzone stays in the warzone?

23 WangKon936 June 13, 2012 at 7:16 am

Rob, you’re an outlier, but you already knew that…. ;)

Gina Chon resigned Tuesday from the WSJ for failing to tell her editors about a potential major conflict of interest.

The White House is standing by McGurk in the face of Senators who say his judgement is too questionable to serve.

25 mateomiguel June 14, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Personally I prefer the darker skin and brown-haired Asian chickies than the lighter skin and black-haired girls. McGurk obviously prefers the opposite, which means we’d be a great tag team out on the town. I support his nomination for ambassador.
