I don’t know if they feel there’s a need to speak with slow, punchy phrases for a dim-witted electorate, or the Republicans are aiming at those pesky immigrants who haven’t mastered English quite yet, but have registered to vote.

Do you. Have. Anything to. Say. About. The content?
Because the content of that ad is a devastating critique. US$4.2 billion in new debt every day. Obama’s been President for 1101 days, so that’s a lot of new debt.
Can’t comment now on what are surely solid numbers from a campaign ad. I gotta run out and get my welfare check, then meet my subsidized nurse friend and reminisce on how perfect the world was before January 20, 2009.
The financial crisis happened in 2008. Obama became president in 2009. Not exactly quantum physics here.
Now, if the right would like to argue that Obama’s measures to help the US economy recover have been ineffectual, that’s a different argument altogether (a far more relevant one). But that’s not the argument this ad is making. No, this ad draws a very clear cause and effect between the Obama administration and the global financial crisis of 2008.
Cool, another lefty poster on the Hole. Can’t wait to read some great insights on why dumping money into green sinkholes like Solyndra and putting the kibosh on Canadian oil pipelines are good for us.
@4 Let’s not forget how he butt-fucked us with Obiecare! Right or left, he is an America hater.
Yes, they do indeed need to speak with slow, punchy phrases for a dim-witted electorate.
Hope. And. Change.
Deal. With. It.
@Wedge. I am not a “lefty” –other than when standing in the batter’s box awaiting the pitch. And the Solyndra mess simply shows a continuing abuse of power regardless of who is sitting in the Oval Office or on either side of the Congressional aisle.
@Railwaylittlecharm. Not an American hater at all, just someone posting an oddly phrased video. I think rectal damage is covered under “Obiecare” if the irritation persists for anyone out there.
As I said at the onset of his rise, a lot of what Obama would bring would be the message of nope, not hope. And for the record: George W. is the reason for the rise of democracy in the Middle East and the Clinton administration, with the help of Al Gore, invented the Internet.
How did George Bush manage to run up US$4.2 billion a day in new debt for the 1101 days of Obama’s presidency? Bush was History’s Greatest Monster, I’ll grant you, but this seems beyond even his diabolical powers.
True, George Bush only ran up US$1.7 billion a day in new debt over 2,920 days. That without having to worry about bailing out GM or a (arguably of questionable effectiveness) stimulus package. The good old days
A stupid ad aimed at stupid voters – what else is new?
I agree. Since George Bush was irresponsible in the past, we should definitely be glad to let Barack Obama be even more irresponsible for the full 2,920 days.
So the choice is irresponsible vs. more irresponsible? Irresponsible it is then. That will play well for the Newt Gingrich camp.
Where’s the korean connection?
That’s President Lee’s BFF they be dissin’
The choice is between the proven irresponsible Obama and possibly irresponsible, but possibly ready to face the music Republican. I will always vote for a possible turd sandwich before I would vote for a known turd sandwich.
Gingrich has his weaknesses, but he’s an idea man and has a proven legislative record. He engineered the only balanced budgets America’s had in the last 30 years, and did so by persuading Democrats to join the effort. On that alone, Gingrich appeals to me. A lot. Because our country is up against the wall.
Fair points.
My main concern is the tone of the ad that paints Obama as the sole engineer of a declining US when in fact the decline; in the form of a worsening deficit, is largely the responsibility of 8 years of a Republican Executive and for the majority of the period, a Republican Congress.
Of course Obama has not helped control the spiraling debt, but as I stated earlier and as largely dismissed by Republicans, he inherited a shit storm. The statistics are probably true, but maybe I’m naive in thinking the NRCC should be addressing how too solve the problems instead of just presenting them in a doomsday fashion.
Oh no — America’s been working on this for 80 years at least, and in earnest for 50. Make no mistake, the fiscal challenge facing the United States right now and in the future is entirely the result of multiple generations of “pander bears” overpromising social services, health care and pensions. There is no way the United States can keep the promises already made, and that was clear in 2009 and for many years before that.
This is why the Democrats and Obama’s choice to increase Federal spending by 40% over the irresponsible George Bush budget was curious, to say the least.
During the last 30 years, Newt Gingrich’s Contract With America brought us our only period of balanced budgets and fiscal reform. I am willing to overlook that he’s fat, or a jerk, to get me some of that.
It’s really alarming that we face an immediate future where there will be more people in the cart than pulling the cart. I pay 26-30% of my earnings in income taxes, and it’s frustrating to me to think that I pay tax for 50 families and get cursed for it. You want more of my money and have the nerve to say it’s “fair”? No way.
Brendon #18: You may appreciate this from Walter E. Williams: “According to my tax records, not only does Congress force me to pay for my share of the missiles, I have to clothe, house and feed at least three American families. That bothers me some, but what really gets me is I can’t claim tax deductions for my extended family- and they don’t even have the courtesy to send me a Father’s Day card or a thank-you note.”
Wait: is this wrong then?

too many numbers for this cowpoke
Yes. It’s wrong. That graph originated in an opinion piece in the New York Times and got picked up by the formerly-honest James Fallows in The Atlantic and the execrable liar Ezra Klein on his Washington Post blog. You couldn’t pick a group of three who are more inclined to distort facts to apologize for Obama.
How will Newt balance the budget _and_ pay for Moon Base Alpha?
Wankers and Ass Clowns. Stay tuned for four more years closer to being as fucked-up as Europe. The good ole boys are poised to poison the well.
i’m continually shocked by the number of crazed right wingers on this site. i’d love to hear from brendon carr and railwaycharm: weren’t you a part of the whole ‘if you’re against bush you’re an america traitor and terrorist sympathizer!!!’ crowd? remember that, when speaking out against the war in iraq was tantamount to sh*tting on the american flag? or are you tea party hacks that are going to try and say ‘i’ve been a libertarian for the past decade, i didn’t vote for bush!’. i love those people.
i’m sure both of you were down for the reckless spending while your party was in office f*cking up the economy so bad that we nearly had a second great depression. now that the stimulus is proving to be effective, the auto industry is saved, and the economy is starting to see growth, you’re going to rail against government spending? you’ve been fiscal conservatives this whole time! right?!
god you guys are such hacks. not that i expect conservatives to care about facts or numbers. everyone knows the lower your IQ the more likely you are to vote republican. everyone knows that the uneducated electorate (those without college degrees) vote overwhelmingly republican. everyone knows racists, bigots, and bible thumpers support republicans and their backward looking conservative ideology.
just didn’t know you guys ever left the good ol’ u s of a. learn something new everyday.
Lastnamehere is spot on.
I’m no fan of Obama, but he inherited an absolute mess, and he is up against Republican deadbeats in office who are more interested in making Obama look bad than doing what is right for the economy. I suppose Sarah Palin would be doing a much better job now. *cough cough*
