It’s back – the Korean Church from hell

by robert neff on January 19, 2012

Jesus First Church in Toronto is back in the news.  For those who don’t remember – the church and its pastor have been the center of several scandals of the most unbelievable type including allegations of rape, child porn and drugs but apparently no convictions.  The Star (January 17, 2012) reports another charge:

Without warning or consent, she said Song kissed her and began to speak of how he pitied her because of the “evil spirit” that was attacking her. She said he warned her that the colour of her skin would soon change and then requested that she remove her clothing so he could assess whether the process had already begun.

“He said, ‘Come on, come on — let me see your body,’” the woman said.

She said she refused at first, but then consented to be led to an upstairs bedroom — down the hall from where her husband was sleeping — and to take off her shirt so that Song could examine her.

This may have nothing to do with the charges but it is interesting to note:

Jesus First Church once had a 50-member congregation made up of mostly South Korean women between the ages of 16 and 32. Many of the church’s followers were in Canada on student visas studying theology and traditional Chinese healing.

Of course, sexual allegations work both ways in this church:

Song was charged several months later, after nine members of his congregation were slapped with 485 charges — including gang rape — after Song accused them of sex crimes.

The pastor’s problems are not just in Canada - he “faces charges in South Korea of mischief, threatening forcible confinement and defamation of character”.  Kind of ironic – he is reported to be able to read minds and see in the future but he didn’t see this coming?

A partial list of the Church’s “15 minutes of fame” in The Hole:

obviously this guy is a total creep but it’s hard to feel sympathy for such stupid, gullible people.

“She said she refused at first, but then consented to be led to an upstairs bedroom — down the hall from where her husband was sleeping — and to take off her shirt so that Song could examine her.”

not only that, but she then stripped down and laid down in bed? what the hell was she thinking?

“What the hell was she thinking?”

Women want sex too, but don’t like to admit it.

We’ll never get it straight until we figure out, or acknowledge, that men have sadistic tendencies, women have masochistic tendencies, and wanting to be used and perhaps hurt provokes shame. Hence the general denial of female sexual desire, and the tendency to blame the man, even when his partner voluntarily strips off and offers herself.

I drive a brand one car. Deal with it.

i sort of see your point of view. based on the story, it’s my hunch that she was probably tempted and possibly even turned on at the time but also torn about whether to go forward or not especially since she’s married. $5 says she just chickened out at the very last minute. if i were her hubby though, i’d be pretty pissed.

If you were that woman’s hubby, you’d be iPissed.

Korea sucks. Deal with it.

To be fair, though, who amoung us hasn’t used the “evil spirit is attacking you, baby” line?

I recall this case from crim law class: a woman was raped. The rapist’s accomplice called the woman, pretending to be the doctor who examined her, and told her that she carried from the rape a deadly STD. What is more, the accomplice told her, the only cure for the STD must be delivered in a form of semen in vagina, delivered by a male who was previously injected with the cure. Then the accomplice made an appointment with her at her house, had sex with the woman.

I am just about as far as away from the “blame the victim” thing, but this woman certainly tested my resolve not to blame her.

So what was the result; consent given, so done for fraud!!

You know what? An American missionary in Japan invented the rickshaw around 1869 to transport his invalid wife throught the streets of Yokohama. And just in case you’re wondering, his name was not Rick Shaw — It was Jonathan Scobie.

SO basically, this guy is a lot like Mohammed or Joseph Smith?
