GI in Mapo sexual assault case finally indicted

Prosecutors have finally indicted the American GI accused of sexually assaulting a high school girl and stealing her notebook computer in Mapo.

UPDATE: No, this is not from the Onion:

A prosecutor with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office said the girl was a virgin and was therefore unlikely to have agreed to sex. In South Korea, premarital sex remains largely taboo.

First!

Yup! Just gotta admire a judicial system that totally cowers to public opinion or money (in this case anti-US sentiment). Only when the soldier is likely about to rotate back to the States after his assignment is over in Korea (typically a 12-month period) do the spineless prosecutors decide to push for an indictment. Three months and no indictment, but the only way to keep this fish from getting away is to indict him. Yeah…and Korean wonder why there is even a SOFA to protect US troops from such a system.

I don’t believe you. I am certain that is from The Onion.

Well, OF COURSE she was a virgin! What self-respecting court in the country could believe otherwise about a young lass interested in dating a GI??? Oh, and she was out drinking til 4am before she invited the guy back to her room. How could one possibly question her purity???

Thanks for the chuckle of the day, Uncle M.

Am I missing something? So, we are to believe that because she “was a virgin” – I wonder how they determined that! – she was unlikely to have agreed to sex? Is it SHE who claims she was a virgin? I wonder when THAT came out…about two months into the investigation after even the shadiest investigative efforts revealed ZERO evidence of rape – and they were desperate for SOMEthing?

Um…..aren’t ALL women virgins until they agree to sex?? That’s what causes them to LOSE their virginity you piece of shit prosecutor!! That’s the evidence of rape??? Can someone tell me whether this guy is mentally retarded?

As I said before if he does a few years for stealing a computer worse travesties could happen.

Crikey, the guy could have been guilty but these Korean law people really do seem to have shit for brains at times.

That’s why I’m always well behaved and never break the law. Korean justice is a bit like a lottery, you might win, but it’s very unlikely.

I’m pretty sure even the Koreans LOLed when they read that.

This might have been true if the soldier was in Afganistan or something, but then they’d simply stone the girl to death instead.

If premarital sex is a taboo in the ROK, it is definitely a loosely enforced taboo

Well I guess compared to western countries it’s still relatively more tabooed yes.. that’s not saying much though.

Korea appears to be a little more conservative than Japan, Taiwan and HK (countries who would be considered a bit on the jungle side of things even by Western standards, or maybe i’m too old and naive) but it seems mostly nothing more than lip service to a moral framework, which is moriound, if not entirely a walking zombie
