Final voter turnout and Busan Dong-Gu

by thekorean on October 26, 2011

The final voter turnout for Seoul’s mayoral election was 48.6%, but exit polls show decisive victory for Park Won-Soon. So much for my little theory. If the exit polls are correct, it means that not even Park Geun-Hye’s assistance was enough to make the GNP supporters show up to vote. Not a good news for the bigger elections coming up.

In other news, Moon Jae-In failed to push his candidate over the top in Busan Dong-Gu, as the GNP candidate confirmed his victory with 51.1% of the votes. Although the progressive candidate was leading by 5% at one point of the campaign, in the end he was crushed by 15% margin.

I love reading the Chosun Ilbo around election time — for their refined choice of language/orthography of course.

consistently saying ‘progressive’ shows enormous bias.

there is already too much bias in ‘news’.

nobody is honest enough to call it what it is, ‘opinions’.

So I guess this means we’re all going to be seeing a whole lot more of Ahn Chul-su in the news. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but still.

48.6% for a mayoral race? Almost 1 out of 2 people voted? Wow, that’s way better than voter turnout for a mayoral race in the United States.
