Is it the same reason why there are plenty of seats available for Incheon->Tokyo, San Francisco->Tokyo and Tokyo->Incheon, but almost everything is booked for that second stage of my journey?
Yes it’s the same reason. For a couple months there most of the flights to Tokyo were actually diverting to Seoul prior to proceeding to their final destination in Tokyo. This allowed them to somewhat offset the incredibly low load factors for Japan routes following the earthquake while simultaneously providing more options to Seoul (and the rest of Asia via Seoul) for their customers.
Mirae Jet (the high speed boat company) was selling a $70 roundtrip ticket from Busan to Fukuoka during the month of June. I completely missed that.
I was looking into flights ICN-NRT and ICN-KIX, to see if I could score any deals for summer break, but surprisingly, prices looked to be about the same as usual for this time of year.
Just another example of Korea gloating as Japan continues to suffer. See endless articles about auto sales, water exports, food sales, etc, each one gleefully skipping and smiling as it proclaims ‘Korea beats Japan – again!’ Future articles no doubt to include why Korean coastal areas are better developed than those in Japan, and an expose on poor sanitation in Japan, featuring images of dead bodies in fields and boats lazily parked on top of convenience stores. Do Korean’s honeslty believe noone from outside Korea sees this stuff?

‘Cause tourists don’t wanna glow in the dark… duh.

I guess I should replace most with many there.
