From here:
Figure skater Kim Yu-Na recently attracted attention when she admitted to drinking alcohol.
Kim Yu-Na visited and talked with IU and Seo Ji-seok on SBS’s “Sunday is Good” which aired on the 26th. During the course of the conversation she revealed that she consumes alcohol.
IU began asking her about food saying, “You can’t eat stuff like this right? Do you drink?”
Yu-Na surprised everyone by responding, “As an athlete, good nutrition is essential. I have almost no opportunities to drink. Though I do have a glass or two after the season is over.”
Netizens showed various reactions to this revelation saying things like “I didn’t think Kim Yu-Na would drink alcohol,” “I’m completely shocked,” and “The more you drink the more tolerant you become to alcohol. Just don’t drink at all!”
As a 20-year-old woman living in two countries where the legal age of consumption is 18 (Canada) and 19 (Korea), you’d think this wouldn’t be news. Oh how Korea hates to see its 국민여동생’s image tarnished by being human.

In Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec, the drinking age is 18. In the rest of Canada, it’s 19.
I don’t think we need to worry about the national pride anytime soon until she’s performing 1/2 her training at the room salons.
And #1, is Quebec the only province where you can get beer/wine at the grocery store? This separation of food and plonk in BC must end!
And you know, with the fatalism that can also be found only in the Greeks, the UriNara Nutizens Alliance will have her characterized as an incontinent wino by next week.
Ontario has the Beer Store and the LCBO for your alcohol needs. You can’t buy beer or wine at the mart of grocery store (though I think some grocery stores have a small Ontario wine selection).
Okay, so she drinks. Big deal. Does she put out?
Yes, like a true champ.
It… really doesn’t look like the netizens are making that much of a fuss. I see comments like “Oh really? That was unexpected.” and “So what? Why can’t Yuna drink once in a while?”, and occasionally “No~ Yuna! Don’t drink! It’s bad for you!”
It’s a blurb article in a “sports” newspaper about a show that’s probably gonna get cancelled, so…
@iMe & cmm
Them’s fighting words, that is.
Big whoop.
The real news would be if someone took a picture of Yuna smoking out of a bong…

This is exactly the sort of hyperbolic nonsense that undermines accomplishments that Koreans can and should be proud of. It’s not enough that she’s the best figure skater in the world. She must also be a paragon of antiquated moral virtue, who never farts and who wakes up in the morning with breath that smells like lilacs and mint.
