According to Reuters (May 3, 2011):
Former South Korean president Roh Tae-woo was admitted to hospital with a bad cough and ended up on the operating table to remove an acupuncture needle from his right lung.
The early doctors and missionaries in Korea had differing opinions of acupuncture. Many felt that the dirty needles (I suppose sanitation then wasn’t as good as it is now) were responsible for more damage than good. My own experiences with acupuncture have been good but I will admit – the first time was a little unnerving when they told me where they were going to put the needles.
And then there is this (Canadian Press May 3, 2011):
South Korean police say they’ve found the body of a man with his hands and feet nailed to a wooden cross.
Police said Wednesday the man was found crucified Sunday in an abandoned stone quarry in Mungyong, about 115 miles (190 kilometres) southeast of Seoul.
Police say they found nylon strings around the man’s neck, arms and stomach. They say two smaller crosses were erected on each side of the cross he was nailed to.
They found nails, a hammer and instructions on how to build crosses inside a tent near the scene.
For those who prefer to read about it in Korean you can find a short piece here with a blurred picture.

Robert,
True story – I was road-tripping in the ROK in the early 80s and went through a cholera epidemic near Mokpo. The nurse got on and gave everyone an injection with the same needle (I declined). I don’t know if Hep C was around then – I sure hope not.
Santo Jesus, I wish I could erase that – that’s what half a bottle will do to ya.
Damn, Rob, as a former resident of Mungyeong and probably the only person on this blog who knows that Nongam-myeon (the site of the crucifixion) used to have a bowling alley, I was going to blog this tonight
Now, say what you will about this, but a good deal of attention to detail was paid — he was wearing a crown of thorns, and his side was pierced with a sharp object. Police are reportedly placing weight on the possibility he was killed by a religious nut with a beef with the victim or a psychopath (that’s the word they used: 사이코패스), which would be truly horrific, but they are also considering the possibility that victim, apparently a religious man, might have had himself crucified with the help of friends ahead of Easter.

Oh, and not that it’s related — at least I hope it’s not — but a whole bunch of churches in Mungyeong have reportedly gotten together to oppose some state-funded Buddhist-related tourism projects in the town, including the establishment of an international Zen center at Bongam-sa:

Yes, this news gave me quite a bit of nightmare last night – in that link is a diagram of what was found. Note the mirror.
Apparently a detailed step-by-step instruction was also found at the site..
The “nurikkun’s” netizen/punters are all saying how on earth it is possible to do it on one’s own..it’s like a really really bad Japanese (or Korean) horror film..I hated “The Chaser” which made me really scared of walking alone at night..
Christ almighty. The mirror was a nice touch, too. From the Hani piece, it looks like the police think he did it himself.
BTW, is it wrong that the first thing that popped into my head when I read the story this morning is Sam Kinison’s rant about the crucifixion?
mad props to my friend Ibbo, who reminded me that the character Neil in the British TV comedy “The Young Ones” once said
Yuna: I hated the Korean Chaser. I haven’t shouted at the TV as much in years. I much prefered the Australian remake.
Yeah, exactly the point theKorean nurikkuns are making, except this guy used two different kinds of nails, (read it for yourself how they think he might have managed to do it, I don’t feel like describing it)
the Chaser
(Spoiler Alert)
My whole heart just dropped so deep it went all the way down to my kneecap when the guy came in with the baseball bat into room at the back of the shop the victim was hiding in. It was like the scene where you see the Alien King hanging off Sigourney Weaver’s escape ship, except I can see why the Aliens would be a bit angry with the humans..therefore it’s less scary.
# 6,
Ha! Let’s see if any Filipinos from the Pampanga or Bulacan provinces can match that!
Filipinos… need to have someone else pound in the nails… such wussies…

The crucified man obviously performed a miracle putting in that last nail!

Headless nails for the hands, Jerrefy, headless nails. After pre-drilling holes through his palms.
You mean . . . he cheated?! Damn him to hell!
