PR guy Seo Kyoung-duk is running an ad on a Time Square billboard thanking the countries that sent troops to help South Korea during the Korean War.
Rather nice of him.
Speaking of the war, the Hani ran a story on their front page yesterday about a meeting between two former partisans and a former counter-insurgency commander in Hamyang. Really, one of those pieces only the Hani could write, and if you can get over stuff like, “송씨는 남북의 긴장관계를 두고 “한국은 친일세력이 득세해서 화해가 잘 안돼. 친일을 해서 돈 번 사람들이 반성해야지 나라가 발전하지”라고 목청을 높였다,” it’s really quite interesting.

I think that is unfair, they are placing their adv. on two billboards in the USA.
Will they run the same advertisement on billboards in the other 20 countries who fought in the Korean war on the side of South Korea?
if not, then its not fair.
I heard that the Korean government has allocated some money to thank individual countries who helped in the war effort to mark the 60th anniversary of the civil war. I don’t know if that will take the form of adverts, monuments, or events. However, I heard that the Koreans have set up food distribution and scholarships for the grandchildren of the war veterans in Ethiopia who live in poverty.
I hope these are remembered the next time I hear another “Koreans are ungrateful” statement.
