Two Sisters Arrested in Toronto Sex Assault Case, Things Getting Very Weird

by Robert Koehler on March 22, 2010

From the Ceeb:

Two South Korean sisters are facing charges in a Toronto sex assault case.

Six men have already been accused in the case. Three were charged and released after a bail hearing Friday, while police are still looking for the others.

The two sisters, both in their mid-30s and in Canada on student visas, allegedly joined the men in drugging and assaulting four women in separate incidents across the Greater Toronto Area between the fall of 2009 and last month.

The sisters were each charged with assault, threatening death, administration of a substance and forcible confinement.

They appeared before a judge at Old City Hall Saturday for a bail hearing, but because no interpreter was available, they were held in custody until Monday.

Another woman has stepped forward, claiming she was drugged and sexually assaulted… on film. But things are getting complicated. All the accused are claiming innocence, and the pastor under whose leadership the alleged victims came forward had himself been accused of sexual harassment by a church member. The eight alleged assailants had all apparently left the church, and one person who used to attend the church told the Hanguk Ilbo that this was all a scheme to ensnare everyone who left the church. The pastor, meanwhile, told the paper that additional complaints would be coming. Or at least that’s what I can make of this whole mess so far.

According to the JoongAng piece, the church in question had about 50-60 people, but 30 of them have rented four apartments where they are apparently living together.

I don’t know what’s going on here but I know I’m staying the hell away from that church. And also viewing Korean community churches in North America generally with deep suspicion.
