Run! Foreigners!
The number of foreigners arrested for violent crime rose by 18 percent last year, according to the National Police Agency.
The number of foreigners arrested for felonies such as murder, robbery, rape, theft and assault reached 7,812 last year, an 18 percent rise from the figure in 2008, said NPA officials.
The steepest rise occurred in robbery, for which 260 were arrested last year, a 95 percent increase from 133 in 2008. The number of thieves also soared by 45 percent from 1,343 to 2,001 last year, said officials.
Murder, rape and assault jumped by 21 percent, 11 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

Is there a listing of violent crimes by nationalities? Assuming that there really is a statistically significant increase in crime among foreign groups, then crime-fighting solutions would need to be tailored to fit the problem.
If there’s a Russian mafia involved in drug dealing (and attendant murders), for instance, then that would need to be handled differently than, say, rape by English teachers.

I think the article does have a simple breakdown in the body. I think Chinese come in first and Americans third.
without more detail, the numbers are a bit meaningless. compare total foreigners with foreign criminals and compare that rate with one for koreans…
same for growth rates… are there more foreigners in korea? or are they just committing more crimes? need before and after percent who are naughty stats…
of course, honesty doesn’t sell as many newspapers as WARNING! DANGER! stuff, especially the xenophobic crapulence that passes for patriotism every now and again…
This time, instead of a “Dog Bites Man!” stoty, the reported seems to have killed the dog and cloned his feces…
Actually some time-honoured methods like a copy of the Holy Qur’an and a sharp scimitar or an arena filled with hungry lions tend to make an effective response to most crisis situations
