According to the Xinhua (Chinese media) Kim Jong-il, the big man up north – who, incidentally, isn’t looking that big – “reiterated on Monday the country’s persistent stance to realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” It further went on add: “The sincerity of relevant parties to resume the six-party talks is very important, Kim said during a meeting with Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.”
But looking at the picture – doesn’t he remind you of this guy?

To be honest, North Korea’s schizophrenic foreign policy is wearing me out.
If KJI’s goal is to establish some sort of stability once he’s dead and his son (supposedly) takes over then he’s doing a horrible job.
All the folks like KJI, Mugabi, Chavez, and Ahmadinejab want is power and they’ll hang on to it using any word games to keep their useful idiots in the West from applying pressure to topple them…
Sadly, the lessons of Munich, 1938, hae not been learned by enough of the right people…
Robert,
No, no reminding me of Gollum, but I do now see the resemblance.
The photo clearly shows he’s lost his embonpoint – he’s also got, IMO, the cancer thins – that cadaverous look.
Of course, in the NORK lexicon this necessarily means (i) the severance of any alliance between ROK and US, or (ii) US disarmament. (ii) being out of the question, the US should call the NORK bluff (and the slightly different one of the ROK left, and force the ROK right to walk the walk, by proposing and implementing (i). on its own terms.
I don’t see the gollum resemblance, but his pose in the DOES kinda look like he’s dangling from marionette strings, a la Team America…
