OK, the only reason I found the Scott Fujita video was because this aatheory post got cited in a Chosun Ilbo story (OK, actually a series to help Korean learn English via English news) on how Paris Hilton burglar Rachel Lee is disgracing Korea.
Note to Chosun: The “an incredibly odd story involving a Korean-American living in Las Vegas” line appears not to have come from “현지 언론들,” but an American blogger living in Korea.

What has it got to do with Korea and its reputation that one Korean commits a burglary and dares to get caught? It wouldn’t be so shameful if it didn’t get any publicity. They should focus on something a significant portion of the Korean populous are infamous for and decry that as disgracing the nation.
What a disgrace. When will Lee Myung-Bak personally apologize to Paris Hilton on behalf of all Koreans?
If I were Lee Myung Bak, I’d apologize and promise to give Rachel Lee a good spanking. For that matter, I’d also promise to give Paris Hilton a good spanking also.
I see squirrel pouches!
She didn’t committed crime alone, there was evil white man behind her.
And on top of her and under her and inside her and … well, you get the idea.
Check out Rachel’s facial expression here:

Dare I say it’s a more American facial expression than a Korean one. This is the kind of look that I see on Korean American second geners and not generally on newer gyopos or Koreans in Korea. It’s the look of total disrespect to authority or at least public opinion and confidence that she didn’t do anything wrong in her mind.
Rachel Lee is the daughter of a North Korean immigrant who’s an owner of two centers of the tutoring company Kumon in Los Angeles. Her father is a South Korean businessman based in Las Vegas. The great details are all in this excellent Vanity Fair article.
Correction. See below.
