Robert Park Misled by West’s Propaganda, Repents and Is Released: KCNA

by Robert Koehler on February 5, 2010

in North Korea

So much for the whole “until the concentration camps are liberated, I do not want to come out. If I have to die with them, I will” thing:

North Korea said on Friday it will release U.S. religious activist Robert Park, arrested in December for illegally entering the country in a journey to raise awareness about Pyongyang’s human rights abuses.

“The relevant organ of the DPRK (North Korea) decided to leniently forgive and release him, taking his admission and sincere repentance of his wrong doings into consideration,” the state KCNA news agency said.

Said Bob:

“What I have seen and heard in the DPRK convinced me that I misunderstood it. So I seriously repented of the wrong I committed, taken in by the West’s false propaganda,” KCNA quoted Park as saying.

I wonder if he actually said that, or if the North Koreans are just making stuff up so they can get rid of him without looking like complete tools. Of course, I wouldn’t blame Park even if he did say those things — I’d join the Workers Party of Korea just to get the hell out of North Korea. Which is why, children, the lesson of this story should be, “Don’t sneak into North Korea into the first place.”

Ironically enough, I believe Mr. Park was in fact taken in by false propaganda, although perhaps not exactly the same propaganda the DPRK has in mind.

Epic FAIL!

Unless his intent was to be a complete pussified ass-hat.

In Which case: WIN!

There’s something meaningful there h&t, but,at the moment, I can’t collate 10 years of your commentary into a two sentence summary . Blogosphere summary?

Ha ha ha! Well, this certainly won’t win the yellow-bellied preacher any more prestige or congregants!

But seriously, how certain are we that there weren’t any back room deals with the State Department? I’d feel a lot better knowing that the U.S. didn’t have to bend over for this idiot.

Mission fail-complished.

Plenty of South Koreans, including perhaps the editorial board of the Hankyoreh, and a few far-left Korean-Americans, sound like Robert P even without torture and mental illness as mitigating factors.

Speaking of concentration camps, did they ever find the thief who stole the “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign from Auschwitz?

Obviously he never watched The Manchurian Candidate, cuz that’s exactly how’s he’s acting….

Guess you could say the same thing about rednecks, trailer trash and Fox News.

I can’t say i’ve ever heard rednecks, trailer trash and Fox News praising the tender mercies of the DPRK regime.

I think this guy is so psyched-out he probably changed his mind about the DPRK for real

17 Tommy February 6, 2010 at 9:01 am

While it was obviously stupid to believe he could make changes by announcing himself and walking into North Korea, we should wait till he comes out before we totally condemn him for ‘being misunderstood about the DPRK.’ If I was tortured then I would say anything to get out and once out would spill the beans on what happened. My main question is if the US had to give up something to get him released or is the DPRK just getting shot of him?

And Netizen Kim, they caught the thieves of the “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign. There were 5 guys caught in Poland (all Polish). Not neo-Nazis, just thieves with criminal backgrounds wanting to sell it.

@15: Twice now? Rahm Emanuel acolyte, perhaps?

Something sure got changed when he entered that reality distortion field. We’ll see if preaches any Kimilsung Thought for real once he is out of paradise. I am guessing that they executed a few Christian children in front of him until he agreed to say whatever they wanted for as long as they wanted. Then again, when has KCNA not ever told a whopper?
