Not everyone goes to the saunas or steamrooms to get clean – some go to get dirty. According to this Korean article - “Mr. A.” (at least they had the decency to hide his name), a 28-year-old American who went to Busan to get a dental implant, went out and got drunk at a bar near Haeundae beach. There he met a young lady, Miss Lee (27), who he shared a few drinks with and then convinced to accompany him to a sauna (찜질방) where they would just go to sleep. While they were lying down in an empty or near empty room Miss Lee drifted off to sleep and then, allegedly, Mr. A. looked around to make sure no one was watching and then covered her with a blanket so that no one would see him sexually assaulting her.

Cue Netizen Kim.
Question: Why does this entry (as of 12:44am Seoul time) get four out of four thumbs up? Gal raped. Shouldn’t that get a negative four? Just sayin’.
Perhaps it’s because ppl believe this American was unfairly singled out? Serious question.
WangKon, I don’t quite understand the star and thumbs rating system. If a post is interesting and newsworthy but we don’t agree with its content, should it get ten stars but a thumbs down, or should it get one star and a thumbs up?
Mark,
The Wordpress plugin in called GD Star Rating and I’m not sure what the formal standards are. A cursory google of it for me gave me a lot of instructions on how to install it into Wordpress but suprisingly little on what the formal meaning of the thumbs vs. star ratings should be.
For me, I think the thumbs mean your “gut” feeling on an article or the news and the stars an expansion of that. But that’s just me, I’m not saying it’s the correct way. Just for the record, I did not make a ranking (neither star or thumb) for this article.
Perhaps the Marmot himself can expand on this (probably not for a while given the time in Korea)?
It’s like the Heisman trophy vote — it means different things to different people.
You can vote on your own posts, apparently.
the best thumbs up example by far.
yuna, that’s not a KrZ/Mizar type link, is it?
All my links are of qwality – I do possess a modicum of female modesty.
Wank On, sometimes you appear to be a pretty intelligent, fair-minded guy but then there are times when you really disappoint. Your suggestion that anybody on this forum is pro-rape and is giving the thumbs-up to this American is insulting in the extreme. Why don’t you go firebomb a US base or something?
I don’t think he was suggesting anyone was pro-rape: he was just wondering about what a positive or negative vote meant. Good question, actually.
I find MrMao’s suggestion that Wangkon was suggesting that insulting to Mr.Mao’s intelligence.
MrMao that’s no fun, any self respecting teenager gangpeh wannabe in any country with a presence of American soldiers know the best way to have fun with them is robbing them and stabbing them in the ass…i’m just kidding, just in case
Hm. Perhaps I was a bit hasty. I don’t get this thumbs up stuff, either. But if it keeps things under control somehow, I guess it’s alright. Wank On, do your worst.
To be honest – I have no idea what the ratings are….perhaps the Marmot will do a posting to clarify it for us all.
Mr. Mao,
Question. Are you Chinese? Or, can you read some Chinese characters? My handle here is Wang Kon, the McCune–Reischauer pronounciation of 왕건 and the hanja being 王建. If you can read Chinese characters, then I’m sure you would know what that means. There it is, just in case you didn’t know. So, since I’ve never personally made a phonetic play on anyone’s handle (particularly yours) I ask (nicely) that you do the same.
I never said any one is pro rape here, but you assumed that’s what I meant. I actually believed that people here might have given the stars and thumbs because they might believe that the man accused might not be getting a fair shake. That’s understandable given Korea’s often inconsistent law enforcement and journalistic reputation. So, I was actually wondering if that was the reason for the stars and thumbs.
To assume the worse when someone says something is really counterproductive, particularly when the person does not have a history of thinking the worse. In those cases allowing for the benefit of the doubt is a good policy to follow.
But it’s so convenient!
TK for some reason your last comment sounds really lawyer-like
Agreed. I’ve always felt invoking Hanlon’s Razor is always a good policy.

In other words, so asshat-like
Let’s face it, typical white men don’t see Asian girl as true lady, they see them as sex object.
I had no idea that being a lady and a sex object were mutually exclusive.
I hope you’re happy with your celibacy
How is that any different from the typical yellow man?
