in Blogging

OK, now I’ve had it.

As I’ve said before, I appreciate the overwhelming majority of the readers and commenters I have.

But frankly, people keep pissing on my rug.

I do this blog because a) it’s fun, and b) because it seems people enjoy reading it. I certainly don’t do it to get aggravated.

I’ve had to shut down two comment threads in less than a week, however, and I see the same characters going at it again in another thread. This morning, I get a phone call — at work! — from one of the characters I banned, as well as an email to my boss that accuses me of advocated porn and encouraging hate speech.

Hey, it happens — I’ve been accused of being anti-English teacher, a shill for the Korean government, a shill for Korea as a whole, pro-Japanese, anti-Korean and anti-Japanese, as well as subject to the occasional threat (some physical) by expats and Korean netizens.

This is not a “woe is me,” tale — it’s just part of having an online presence, really, and many bloggers put up with it.

But between this and the continued abuse of my comment threads, I’ve decided to take some advice a good friend of mine gave me long ago and close down my comments. Between the magazine, books, my family (no, not in that order) and the precious little time I have in between to post content, I simply don’t have time or energy to police the threads.

From now on, if you have something worthwhile to say, send it by email via marmotshole@gmail.com or via my contact page. If — and I do mean IF — I think it’s worth repeating on the blog, I will do so. If not, then, thanks for the input, anyway.

To those commenters who did behave themselves, I say thank you, particularly to those who have been with the blog for a long time.

Wait, so we can comment or not?
