Ling & Lee Tell Their Tale to LAT

by Robert Koehler on September 2, 2009

in North Korea

Laura Ling and Euna Lee write of their ordeal in the LA Times.

It’s pretty tedious, and don’t expect much in the way of an apology for quite possibly getting North Koreans deported/killed. In fact, they reprimand a Korean pastor for talking to the media after their arrest. This is as close to an apology as they get:

Since our release, we have become aware that the situation along the China-North Korea border has become even more challenging for aid groups and that many defectors are going deeper underground. We regret if any of our actions, including the high-profile nature of our confinement, has led to increased scrutiny of activists and North Koreans living along the border. The activists’ work is inspiring, courageous and crucial.

Read the rest on your own.

Just have a barf bag ready.

I can’t be arsed to read the whole article, but what I will say is that it has been very interesting to note the undercurrent of misogyny running through the various diatribes reacting to the arrest of these two journalists.

Misogyny? Not me, I’m in love with Euna Lee.

Will they donate the proceeds of their book/movie/whatever deals to the charities and organizations helping North Koreans? Or just pocket the money and laugh all the way to the bank?

They succeed in making readers think the border is somewhat ambiguous or not clearly marked. Especially when it was stated on CNN that they crossed for like 30 seconds.

Most of the border runs along the Tumen river and the Yalu river.
You can’t really accidently lose your way and stray over the border (unless near Baekdusan).

As soon they stepped foot onto the ice, they new there were walking toward North Korean terra firma. They knowingly (if not then very stupidly and ignorantly considering the reason they were there) stepped foot on and walked across a river bording China and North Korea in doing so disrescpected the terrirtorial sovereignty of North Korea.

They are both very lucky ladies.

In the early days of our confinement, before we were taken to Pyongyang, we were left for a very brief time with our belongings. With guards right outside the room, we furtively destroyed evidence in our possession by swallowing notes and damaging videotapes.

Yeah, right. If the North Koreans actually failed to confiscate videotapes and other evidence, then they’re even dumber than Koss, Ling, and Lee.

We didn’t spend more than a minute on North Korean soil before turning back, but it is a minute we deeply regret. To this day, we still don’t know if we were lured into a trap.

Sure. It’s not their fault. And what’s “one minute” anyway. Slap slap slap slap.

Mitch Koss left Lee to the guards in China? What kind of man leaves a dish like that to two puny North Koreans?

A man who knows what’s good for him.

The proceeds should be split between the U.S. govt and any charitable organization that helps NK refugees.

And each of these byatches owe Willy a blow job or a havana in their cooches.

Laura Ling’s last update on Twitter before being captured by the North Koreans:

“Hoping my kimchi breath would ward off all dangers.”

Enough said.

For the love of Jesus. I almost had some sympathy for Euna, being a Christian and all. Until I got to the part dissing the Pastor who helped them. I ain’t buying all of their story and that was entirely unnecessary.

How much of this did Lisa actually write?

Tell these dumb bitches what you think about them…

Just saw the movie 처음 만난 사람들 — about north korean defector life in the south. I’d say above average general movie wise but obviously a must see if you are interested in north korea.

#12 Thanks for the link, until now I’d been totally unaware Laura Ling was transgender….

Misogyny, recognising two individuals as idiots hardly consitutes hatred of all womankind….
