Hyundai Chief Extends N. Korea Visit. Again.

by Robert Koehler on August 13, 2009

It appears Hyundai chairwoman Hyun Jung-eun has yet to meet with Kim Jong-il to discuss the release of a Hyundai Asan employee who has been detained in Kaesong since March.

According to the KNCA (via Yonhap), KJI was in Hamhung visiting a naval university and watching a plan… and no doubt taking in that city’s wonderful collection of East German-designed Bauhaus architecture.

The Hankyoreh, though, quotes a source as saying working-level talks on freeing the Hyundai employee, identified by his family name of Yu, have been completed. The Hani also seems to believe deals on the restart of the Kaesong Industrial Zone and Mt. Kumgangsan Tourism projects could happen, too.

Robert I’m pretty sure KJI was spending most of his time in Hamheung inspecting this new “luxury” resort being finished there. Hat tip to Koreabeat. http://photo.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/08/12/2009081200654.html?Dep0=home_top&Dep1=top1
