South Korean Fishermen Latest Accidental Tourists to the North

The North Korean navy has siezed a South Korean fishing vessel after its GPS apparently malfunctioned, causing it to stray into North Korean waters. There’s a brief Reuters story here.

1 Bipolar Mindscrew July 30, 2009 at 11:59 am: BBC Article here. It must be dangerous to work along the border. I assume the land border is too well-marked by the DMZ to be confusing… perhaps these squid-fishermen were a little too casual with their work to be concerned with such “suggestions” as a border, much like taxis and buses with red stop lights.

This along with other incidents should remind Koreans that they are not “one country” despite what some people say.
2 newspaperman July 31, 2009 at 12:47 pm: You know, this is pretty pathetic. If the GPS is “malfunctioning” then check a compass (or look at the position of the sun) and head south — immediately.
