MK Visits a ‘Kiss Room’

by Robert Koehler on July 29, 2009

The Maeil Gyeongje visits a so-called kiseubang, or “Kiss Rooms,” where for a fee you can kiss, feel a girl up and beat yourself off, although one girl working at the visited establishment said for an additional cost, the girls lend a helping hand.

Over the last year, several such places have opened up. Some have become so popular that they’ve opened up websites to take reservations.

Police complain that it’s very difficult to bust such places because unless they’re actually there watching, it’s difficult to prove who touched what.

“it’s difficult to prove who touched what”

Any more difficult than proving two people has intercourse?

Do they not have sting operations and hidden cameras/mics to work with?

Other than hoping for confessions, exactly how do police actually go about police work here?

in asking, you have answered, unfortunately.
And sting, entrapment, undercover stuff is used much less in East Asia than in America, in general — there’s a prejudice against them, it seems “unfair”.

well, I’d imagine that first the cop goes into the establishment under cover and gets some of the services. Then halfway through the ordeal he tells the lady he’s a cop and if he doesn’t get special treatment then there’s going to be trouble. He gets his special treatment and then says he’ll be back next week. Repeat ad infinitum. There’s your police work.

At least that’s how it worked in the movie Bad Guy.

Don’t the cops have anything better to do? Is a consensual rub-n-tug really so dangerous to society to where police funds, time and effort are used to try and catch some lady with her hands in a guy’s pocket? I thought only the US and Middle East were this obtusely Puritanical.

‘다른 곳은 손으로 애무를 해주는 곳도 많이 있어요.’

애무 – caress, pet, fondle

So now you know the vocabulary….

> I thought only the US and Middle East were this obtusely Puritanical.

The term “Confucian Puritanism” has been applied to Korean society by western observers for more than a century. Sometimes admiringly, sometimes disparagingly… It is a mostly-dysfunctional psycho-social minset, surely — forbidden sin that becomes ultra-thrilling, must be purchased with guilty feelings, threat of punishment. Meanwhile the wives are ignored. Yeeesh, what a waste of everyone’s time and emotional energy… But it seems to be good for capitalism, so on it goes.

I saw a sign for one of these places last night walking home down 강남대로. 4만원 for half hour, 7.5만원 for an hour. I think it’d be better to spend that money on drinks for myself and a date. I’d feel more confident that I’m not the 5th guy to kiss the girl that night too.

Was surprised also when I was propositioned for anma in the same area, white foreign face and all.

@cmm
You’re a foreign guy: they think you’re a military personnel looking for fun. And, if the rumors are true, they charge you more as a foreigner, significantly.

It’s funny–a lot of Koreans say I look “kind”…착해보이다–and I almost NEVER got stopped by anma or 나이트 people (anyone know what these people are called…who stand out in the streets, handing out the bikini-clad business cards…I used to know but forgot…it’s a Konglish word I think) even though I wouldn’t have minded if they had stopped me.

Then I had friends who got stopped ALWAYS, even if they were holding hands with their girlfriend. haha.

비키, or a similar spelling. I have a fairly 착해보인 appearance too, but I think they saw me studying the 키스방 flyer that I reported about above and assumed that I was lookin’ for some hot ‘n’ heavy action. Next time I’ll get a price quote.
