Here too!
Not here.
I am listening on shortwave to “Voice of Korea”. Always good for a laugh…
I am about to go to the Jisan Valley Rock Festival, to see Basement Jaxx and a load of Korean bands.
Enjoy. I’m going to a bluegrass festival tomorrow. I’m not strictly speaking a bluegrasser, althoughbanjo, mandolin and guitar are three of the instruments that I play.
Should be a nice day.
For the first time this morning, MH has risen above Andrew Sullivan on my Firefox “most frequently visited websites” ranking.
Congrats, Robert. You’ve got one of the hottest blogs out their in the ersatz Korean expat community. Now if we can just get rid of the Korean dating ads that pop up on your blog for viewers in the real world, er, the States.
DLB
Oops. I meant, “out there.” Damn!
“Now if we can just get rid of the Korean dating ads that pop up on your blog for viewers in the real world, er, the States.”
Or at least, if we could find a way to change the face on the banner. That girls is starting to creep me out.
Does anyone know where to buy a jump-starter power pack? The kind you plug into a wall outlet and then use to jump start a car? I found 부스터 케이블 on gmarket, but I’m looking for the whole power pack thing.
Hmm, now I see an ad with a woman displaying her cleavage.
That woman on the Korea Cupid ads has to be the most recognizable woman in the country. I can’t stand that KC ad, and thankfully I’m starting to get variety. (Google picks ‘em, we don’t) I have Japanese dating ads, Thai dating ads, and even a Muslim dating ad once. I heard that two days ago there was a Jesus 2020 ad, and from time to time I get Scientology ads, too.
“For the first time this morning, MH has risen above Andrew Sullivan on my Firefox “most frequently visited websites” ranking.”
I’m not sure if that makes you more, or less, of a homo.
#10,
While I’m sure we’re all waiting on the results of your determination, can’t you find it somewhat admirable of a man being openly gay and Catholic, in this day in age?
And the answer is that it makes him more, more of a homo sapiens.
Damn, just when I was starting to enjoy mkaplan’s posts, he goes all out bigot on MH.
On the other hand, some of the biggest homophobes are latent homosexuals, so maybe ol’ “wide stance” mkaplan is hiding something. Hmmm.
C’mon, mkaplan, do us all a mitzvah and come clean.

Does anybody have or know of an updated informed prediction of where our dear Won is heading by the end of this year? She’s been stuck between 1200 and 1300 for a long stretch now, after recovering from the 1500+ panic of March… Are we more likely to see 1150 or 1350 in December?
#12,
The question is, can we forgive him his one wanker moment, or has that one fall from grace damned him and his commentary for all eternity? Perhaps he was trying to say to us that, although he’s a bottom, he’s a power bottom?
I’m all for compromise.
You can’t go around beating them up in public, stomping their heads, kicking their teeth in, etc., anymore like during the good old days.
So as petty as it can be, you have to enjoy it where and when you can, i.e. verbally abusing them online, laughing at the latest HIV/AIDs oubtreak, etc.
So, I got this new Samsung cell phone. It’s got an mp3 player built in. I guess I’m naive or maybe just not very tech-savvy, because I expected the mp3 player to play mp3s. Boy was I wrong. My mp3 player no more knows what to do with mp3s than Michael Bay knows what to do with dramatic irony. It only plays it’s own proprietary sound files, available for purchase from KT’s website.
Has anyone else had this problem? Or am I the only idiot? Are there legal implications for selling something as an “mp3 player” when it most certainly is not?
sanshinseon — Your timing in asking this question is impeccable. The US Treasury intends to auction off something like $1 trillion in bonds in a single week coming up in the next few weeks, and that auction stands a greater-than-even chance of failure. There just isn’t enough money in the world to sustain the kinds of deficits that Obama and the Democrats are running up, and that points to a weaker dollar. Possibly a collapsed dollar.
@16 converters are available
@17 if only forex were so predictable. let us know if you make your millions.
Adams-awry — The very day I hit it with the F-You Money, I’ll be back.
wow. that’s pretty aggressive for someone i’ve never met. what’s your problem?
Adams-awry — Just remember, in the English language, the second-person singular is “you” and the second-person plural is also “you” (or “y’all” if you’re open to regionalisms). It’s not about you in particular — no worries, mate.
Plus, what are the chances? Not much. I’m only allowed to invest at the Bank of Sealy Posturepedic anyway.
i will pray for you.
This video (almost) made me cry:

^ Best wedding video ever!
i will include you in my prayers.
Happy Anniversary to those brave souls who first went to the moon.
“Just remember, in the English language, the second-person singular is “you” and the second-person plural is also “you” (or “y’all” if you’re open to regionalisms).”
What about thou and ye?
“It only plays it’s own proprietary sound files, available for purchase from KT’s website.
Has anyone else had this problem?”
I’m so convinced I’d run into that problem that I didn’t bother investing in a Micro SD card for my phone (7 or 8 thousand won apiece) to see if it can play music I didn’t buy from my carrier.
If the player is marketed as “an mp3 player”, but it does not actually play mp3 files, I would bring it up with the Korean Consumer Protection Board and see what they say. They have an English website for those that don’t sprechen Sie Koreaner.
I hope the dollar falls hard relative to the won. That was a serious pay cut for me when it went from 950-1500 in such a short time. ;_;
1/
fuck you, idiot.
Koreans have nothing common with your damn racist Nazi European relatives, who throw tables out on the street, because of a different racial color.
2/ I just watched “An Inconvenient Truth”, Noble Political, I mean Peace Prize, granted to Senator/Vice President Al Gore.
I wonder, why did he let his daughter wed a Chinese dude, if he was serious about blaming industry on environmental havoc? By intellectual deduction, it’s pretty clear that America is not to blame, but the Chinese manufacturers are the real blame. This film focuses solely, what America did wrong. Nothing about what China is doing. Not to mention a subtle blame game on George W. Bush.
It also made me realize the South was pretty proud about Clinton/Gore initially, because by heaven sake’s, these boys were hometown heroes.
Do you know why Gore lost the South in his election? Ignorance of their Southern bases and their political beliefs. That’s why Gore lost his own state, and Jonathan Edwards lost his own state, too.
China is the major manufacturer and polluter, who is unapologetic about it.
Wrong blame on W, Al Gore. Your film is thus, propaganda.
Do you know why Kim Dae Jung won the Nobel Peace Prize? It’s a political prize. Always was. Continue to be. Controversial Nobel Peace Political Prize winners. Kim Dae Jung. Nelson Mandela (can you honestly say South Africa is doing well right now?), and Al Gore.
the way I understood it.
1/ George W. Bush declines to sign Treaty on Environment. To save the economy post dot.com bubble burst and 911.
2/ It actually works. People make money in the US.
3/ While fighting 2 wars, US economy is actually pretty good. US consumers have money. US banks take advantage of housing loan laws dating back to 1990s, to make renters into homeowners.
4/ US renters become homeowners. US homeowners own 2nd, 3rd, 4th houses. Some to sell off in short term, by playing the market ups and downs, like stocks. US college and graduate students use grant money to make payments on new homes they have purchased with no money, down, ARMortgage.
5/ Inflation becomes a problem. Rates go up. The US liberal voter is shocked. Blames Bush, blames Bush, blames Bush.
6/ Blame game on ‘world pollution’ has been on going and upped in tempo during Bush presidency. US liberal voter blames Bush for losing his home and the environment. Besides, gasoline prices have shot up, too. Keep blaming Bush.
7/ US economy, and thus world economy in chaos. Blame Bush, Blame Bush, Blame Bush. Vote for Obama.
8/ Gore gets Nobel Prize. Obama says US will clean up. China and India vow to continue their ways of polluting.
9/ I think the base of the problem is unsolved without China and India continuing their ways.
When I was in college, the dumbest thing to do with your money was to keep it in checking/savings.
If Americans kept their money in checking/savings, the world would not be the way it is now. Stupid people should not invest. Let’s make that a law. Only people who have taken a mandatory review on economics can buy stocks, buy houses.
You want to make it illegal for you to invest, wjk? That’s a very selfless act, good for you.
What he said. Good money is only for the elite. Fuck all you middle and lower class slaves.
And BushRoveCheney had NOTHING to do with the current state of the us economy. You’re a fool to believe so. Obama did it all from behind the scenes to make the Righteous Conservative Heroes look bad and steal the election.
Re: “wjk” and “That woman on the Korea Cupid ads has to be the most recognizable woman in the country. ”
Oh my god! I can’t believe she’s still single after all that exposure. Either Korea Cupid totally sucks or wjk has got to come back to Korea, invest in some of these charming brand new over priced apartments built for the venerable Korean investor class, and claim this pure blooded bride who has been waiting for such a worldly stud, oh-so patiently. But hurry!… before the empty new apartment starts to deteriorate from exposure to oxygen and sunlight (‘cuz that’s about all it takes to make them fall apart, just like many of the wjk brand rants).
“sprechen Sie Koreaner”
Hmm, I haven’t studied German in a while, but that doesn’t seem right to me.
wjk,
Many people were beaten to death in the streets or brought to the mountains, killed and buried in mass graves from 1945 to 1953, but that’s besides the point.
This will probably shock you, but Korean nationalism was most certainly influenced by fascism (colonial Japan was a fascist, after all).
I recommend you buy ‘Ethnic nationalism in Korea’.
Some excerpts here:

Here’s an excellent article written by the author.

…Or, you could read this. Sure, it’s a bit of a rant, but his sources are reliable.

correction: (colonial Japan was a fascist state)
PS. Sure, the Nobel Peace Prize was probably Alfred Nobel’s way of balancing the destructive power of his inventions, most notably dynamite. But, to say it is strictly a political prize?
Carr @ 17,
Brendon, I’ll make a gentleman’s bet with you that the Treasury’s auction of T-bills this week goes just swimmingly. I am glad to hear that you are now concerned about the deficit. Were you before January 20th? Just asking!
Cheers,
DLB
There’s nothing like a Democratic president inheriting a huge Republican deficit to get a Republican interested in fiscal responsibility.
