Korea Can Discuss Missile Range Limit: USFK

by Robert Koehler on July 7, 2009

KBS reports that the United States — or at least USFK — has told Korea that if the latter wants, it can discuss possibly amending the current limit placed on South Korean missile capabilities during annual defense-related meetings.

South Korean missiles are currently limited — by bilateral agreement with the United States — to a maximum range of 300km with warheads up to 500kg.

Interestingly, a Defense Ministry spokesman said the US had engaged in no talks with Korea prior to the statement, and the ministry was trying to figure out the background to the comment.
