This man is truly doing the Lord’s work. Obviously he was quite good at it also since he didn’t get caught by the North Koreans, unlike a couple of foolish journalists.
I had the pleasure of knowing Mike Kim for about two years as we were undergrads at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Class of 1999. He had a maturity way beyond his years and was an active member of the local church leadership. I had the pleasure of briefly serving as a translator for his organization, Crossing Borders, and was heartbroken by the stories I was translating. He’s truly doing a great thing and it’s amazing to see him on national television. I hope the world becomes more aware of the humanitarian crisis in NK through people like him.
Obviously not as compelling though as the “human rights” problems of expats in SK in regards to the threats to their freedom of sex, drugs, and rock & roll.
Mike Kim’s work is commendable, especially his efforts to reduce the human suffering that sex trafficking causes. I just hope that his organization doesn’t play into the South Korean Christian fundamentalists’ vision of converting the North Koreans from one bankrupt, self-righteous ideology and giving them another one.
