in Stupid Foreigner Tricks

Police in the lovely province of Gyeongsangbuk-do have booked nine foreign English teachers, including a 30-year-old Canadian identified as J, on charges of smoking pot and hash. The teachers — who work at universities and hagwon in Daegu and Gyeongsan — are accused of toking up some two to four times since last year.

I heard that the cops are looking for the mastermind of the operation, a guy named Silent B. ;)

Agian final exams have just finshed and bang! Another arrest.

I really think the poilice wait untill the exams are done – grades are completed – before they bust uni teachers.

If you look at past postings there is a definite pattern.

As well I know from the experience of sharing a apt. at H – uni. the school knew the other teacher was toking up but they kept things (me) hush until they could get rid of him after the end of the semmester.

School in Daegu probably paid off the police to wiat until after the paper work for the semmester was done.

I wish someone would get nailed in the middle of the semmester. it woudl be fun to watch a uni try to fix that kind of screw up.

The numbers of foreign teachers getting caught are up this year, but the overall number of drug offences has gone up too.
One thing is that these drug offences have particularly increased in the foreign population — 10% of drug crimes are by foreigners. They are mostly (2/3) done by Thais, with Russians a significant second. America and other Western countries account for a very small percentage of them. However, its a safe bet the category ‘foreigner’ will be used to link heavy drug use to English teachers.

Han Bites Dog,

If the numbers are up, I bet it has more to do with concentrating resources on investigating foreigners than the overall number of drug foreign drug users being on the rise.

If I still lived in that hellhole, I would need drugs too.
