She Apparently Likes ‘Em Thin

by Robert Koehler on April 16, 2009

35-year-old Japanese woman Kitagawa Katsumi, who in 2003 tried to defect to North Korea by jumping from a Chinese cruise boat on the Yalu River and swimming to the Worker’s Paradise, told the Sankei Shimbun that she did so because she wanted to live in North Korea because she liked North Korean men, who are apparently sentimental.

She lived in North Korea for over two years before asking to return to Japan because, she said, she simply missed Japan. She still thinks she made the right decision to go, and she’d like to visit the country again.

On a related note, in 1994, I once tried to defect to Somalia because I thought Iman was hot.

The North Koreans just let anyone go? Especially someone with such propaganda value? This chick must be one boatload of crazy!

Dear Robert,

You’ll be happy to know that Iman is still very hot. She’s the only reason (really) that I watch Project Runway Canada.

And Ms. Kitagawa is madder than a bag of cut snakes.

For a moment there, in my mind’s eye, I had you pictured as that wacky kid from the movie “The Last King of Scotland”.

Iman was hot. That’s why she left Somalia.

Does anyone know of somewhere that lists all the defectors to North Korea and what became of them? The Americans are on wikipedia. Dresnok is still there, Jenkins went to live in Japan, the others died? What about the South Koreans, Japanese or Europeans? There used to be a Juche study group in Winchester, England. I never found out how many members they had.

I wonder how good Dresnok’s Korean is. A cheese sandwich to the first person to get him to post here at the Hole. Two cheese sandwiches to the first person to get him to agree to a language-off with thekorean.

I am American, but I tried to defect to America hoping they might forget my minor tax debt. That failed.

Oh the power of hallyu [or should I say Cho-lyu?] on Japanese women. There is no doubt that some North Korean men would make better husbands to a Japanese women than some of the Japanese husbands there are here.

I was kind of hoping that Kitagawa was some sort of lame Japanese government attempt to gather humint on the [conceivably still existing] Japanese abduction community in Pyongyang. But she just looks crazy to me. That biological clock must really be ticking…

This lady and that East German lady who jumped into the Polar Bear enclosure because she wanted to “play” with the polar bear seem to have the same mental defect–insanity.

nyavago,

That was the perfect analogy…

However, she may just be fleeing this:
