The Kookmin Ilbo (among others) reports that police in Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do have caught a 27-year-old AIDS-infected taxi driver who had sex with countless women over the last five-six year, despite knowing his condition.
And no, he is not a former English teacher.
Police actually busted the guy, identified as Mr. Jeon, on Wednesday for stealing women’s underwear.
He was discharged from army bootcamp in 2003 for having AIDS. He then got a job as a taxi driver in Jecheon, using the time to have sex with scores of women, including dallanjujeom and noraebang girls and drunk passengers, police said.
This reveals a hole in the authorities’ management of AIDS patients.
When police raided his one-room apartment in Jecheon’s Cheongjeon-dong, they confiscated about 200 pairs of women’s underwear and video files, taken by cell phone, of him having sex with about 10 women.
It was revealed that Jeon would lure drunk female passengers back to his apartment and secretly videotape them having sex with him. It appears he also had sex with an unspecified number of women in his taxi and at motels.
After starting their investigation of Jeon, police questioned a 29-year-old woman who they discovered had sex with the suspect in October. They are also confirming the identities of three or four other women whose numbers police got from Jeon’s cell phone.
A police official said it was possible that some of the women Jeon had sex with had become infected with AIDS, and that they were putting their effort into identifying the women in the videos.
Police have applied for a confinement warrant for Jeon, charging him with knowingly trying to spread AIDS. They can probably do this rather easily, since according to Newsis, police have determined from the video evidence that he didn’t use condoms, and Jeon himself told them he didn’t.
The suspect is apparently good-looking, because Newsis says it’s presumed this was a factor in the ease in which the women were seduced.
Police are apparently also worried about secondary and tertiary victims, since it’s not only bar girls who appear in his videos — a number of 30-40-year-old housewife types appear, too.
This story just gets worse the more I read.
Newsis also notes that he had a homosexual relationship in 2002.

“Mate”, why should anyone be in favor of medical tests for “foreign English teachers”? The last I heard, English teachers are not sex workers and pose no danger to students by performing their daily teaching assignments.
If Korea tests one group of foreigners, then all foreigners should be tested — especially the lawyers.

Hopefully, the only one who’ll test positive is the driver. The days of going through life safely as a naive ding dong, however, are long gone.

AIDS is not pretty, unless severe weight loss, open sores and the shutting down of one’s system through the development of sometimes multiple and/or obscure diseases seems somehow attractive to the reporter at Newsis. Persons testing HIV-positive but who have yet to develop AIDS, however, may appear healthy and function normally.

The reporter seems to think women don’t go out looking for one night stands. It’s not a coincidence he chose to be a taxi driver. A little bird told me that lonely married and single women in their 30′s, 40′s, and 50′s who want sex with no strings attached often turn to taxi drivers (the government and the police is relatively tolerant of prostitution that caters to men, but not to that which caters to women).

I would be very surprised if the government passes a law that requires taxi drivers to get an HIV test when they renew their driver’s license.

GBNHJ you seem to be somewhat confused. It says his looks were a factor in his ability to pick up women and therefore by inference his opportunity to infect them, not that his AIDs is a factor in his looks.

Anyway, this kind of thing comes up every couple of years. Still a pretty shitty thing to do, but the guy won’t see any punishment. The hookers and the gay man who did the same thing a ways back weren’t punished either.

Hey, there’s no need to shout my name. I’m simply pointing out that I believe the reporter is wrong. AIDS, even in remission, is hardly pretty. The article claims that AIDS, and not HIV, was the reason for his military discharge, which would mean that he has had it for years. For most persons so afflicted, the combination of diseases and drug treatments wreaks havoc on weakened immune systems, leaving patients looking as bad as you might imagine.
He is most likely HIV-positive. Many mistakenly conflate HIV with AIDS when, as Magic Johnson exemplified, they are quite different. Otherwise, if the taxi driver actually has developed AIDS, it seems to support the idea that the women were drunk in his taxi when he hit them up for sex. There are simply not that many gorgeous AIDS patients.

Deliberately not protecting his ‘partner’ and exposing them to the HIV virus? I don’t know – I’m normally against the death penalty except in the most extreme conditions, but the callousness of what he did is almost unbelievable, except it isn’t.
Maybe we should let his victims decide his fate.
