First It Was the Odeng, Now It’s the Banchan

by Robert Koehler on March 3, 2009

Two ethnic Koreans from China were arrested in Yeongdeungpo yesterday for beating a restaurant owner for refusing to give them more banchan.

Police are looking for four of their friends as well.

I’d love to see what would happen if someone tried to stop people from stealing chopped onions at the Costco food court. ;)

As far as Costco condiments go, call me a purist, but I’d settle for enforcing the ‘No ketchup, mustard, and onion mixture on pizza’ rule. It’s for hotdogs, people, hotdogs. Stop grossing me out when I’m trying to enjoy the best pizza for the price in Korea. ~ 끝 ~

Holy crap!

I wouldn’t want to be there when it happened.

Not sure what you are talking about with the pizza. I usually see the heaping plate of onions with mustard and ketchup mixed in. Onion salad I guess.

Even in good times, Korea is a nation of overreactors, and general level of anger and violence is disturbing.

I for one would sympathise with the attackers. No extra banchan in a Korean restaurant, I mean, come on, WTF?

A typical news story of thugs attacking people…but why does media in Korea like to emphasize ethnic Korean from China espcially in the headline? What do these people do to deserve this?

“Korea is a nation of overreactors, and general level of anger and violence is disturbing.”

And imagine if there were guns here …you would have something far worse…yeah, over there across the Pacific
