No Wonder University Tuition Is Outpacing Inflation

by Sonagi on February 26, 2009

The General Student Association at Cheongju’s Seowon University is demanding the ouster of several professors for having spent over a three-year period a total of W130 million in university funds on booze and women at room salons, massage parlors, and other blowjob and handjob entertainment establishments.   The men had paid for the services using special corporate account cards and got caught by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology during a special investigation of Seowon Foundation schools.

What is it with my former Korean hometown of Cheongju these days? Schoolkid beaten to death by his peers, mentally-challenged girl raped by her older male relatives and then given back to them by the courts and now this? I’ve got a few mates who teach at Seowon Teachers’ College (there, fixed it for you), must get on the old assbook and ask them about this one.

#1,

It’s not obvious? The place has gone to Hades since you’ve left…

How does one expense a rub and tug?

for a liberal woman, you sure do read the chosun ilbo quite regularly like it’s your religious text.

read something else.

it’s more of something my father reads 3 times a day.

Too funny. My tax won hard at work.

Not writing from personal experience, of course, but such establishments have been ‘rumored’ to ask patrons, when bill paying time comes, how they would like the charge to appear on the card: ‘restaurant’ was one choices ‘the very close source’ was offered according to his ‘fading memory’.

iwshim — Look at the bright side. At least the money wasn’t going to bail out banks, automakers or Octomom.

#3,

I’m sure you’d love it if we only read the local English language papers.

I wonder when we can expect to see newspapers to print retractions for all the negative and unfounded claims they’ve made against foreign ESL teachers.

They were given a corporate account card from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology for the purpose of carrying out special research *cough* on six middle and high schools and colleges in partnership with Seowon University

Not quite: the Ministry had carried out a special investigation (t’ûkpyôl kamsa) at schools belonging to the Seowon Foundation, and found out that company cards had been used in room salons, massage parlors etc.

“Octomom bailout” – Marmot’s Hole sure keeps me up to date on the American language and society.

Correction noted, antti. Thank you.

#5 I suspect the close source did indeed suffer from fading memory. I think it’s highly unlikely the place can offer a choice, since they’d have to change their details with the credit card agency each time.
What probably happened is they are already in the credit card system as “******* restaurant” was he was reassured that he needn’t use cash as it would show up on his card statement as a restaurant.

#12,

Not necessarily. A credit card scanner is just a phone call away. The owners probably have a restaurant or know someone who does.
