Guess who is the Third Most Popular Russian in Russia?

by WangKon936 on December 31, 2008

Yep, that’s right, Joseph Stalin! Yes, the brilliant diplomat who forged a peace treaty with Hitler! The economic genius who steered Russia into a socialist utopia! The highly efficient manager of resources who deftly rearranged human and agricultural capital for maximum production!

Could this be further evidence that Russia is blissfully sliding into totalitarian rule via the masses? A sort of reverse democracy?

Don’t know, but the AP article can be read here.

P.S. I would have made a great People’s Commissar, huh?

Update: The Big Kahuna himself links to an interesting WSJ article that further demonstrates the depths of the Russian psychosis. Apparently an often ignored Russian academic who is proclaiming the end and break-up of the U.S.A is finding willing listeners in the Russian media.

According to Igor Panarin, in 2010 the dollar will collapse, California will splinter into its own country (heavily influenced by the Chinese, no doubt), Texas will become an independent republic under Mexican influence, Alaska will return to the loving embrace of Mother Russia, etc…

A comical read to be sure.

I absolutely love Panarin’s predictions. He seems to have no direct knowledge of American regional culture and national character. Washington State and California being in political alliance? Except to repel the Chinese invaders Panarin says will take over, I don’t see it. Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina lining up with New York and Taxachusetts to form a political entity and possibly to join the European Union? Mississippi and Alabama joining a federation called the “Texas Republic” and being absorbed by Mexico? These are all laughable.

And Missouri, dear Missouri, getting gobbled up by Canada. Oh my. Does Canada covet all our meth labs?

The first part of your thread is very old news and not surprising. The Panarin is, however, a real scream. The guy should be doing Sci-fi.

The best thing about this post is that it triggers a very nice ad.

Haven’t we already given back the southern half of Texas to Mexico?

was that what it was? I don’t see the gay ad anymore.

Nice ad indeed.

I guess the Russkies want to return to the days of the Great Patriotic War, when they were individually miserable but collectively respected in the world. This guy is tapping into the return-to-greatness fantasy and no doubt making some coin on it, just like Al Gore is making millions off the people’s need to feel like they have some influence on the climate.

And yes, that ad is a nice change of pace from the usual 90′s haircut Korean chica.

Word up.

Notice to all MH posters: from now on please make the first word in the title of each post “Russia”.
