Way back in 1984, naturalized citizen James Won Hee Kang hawked what he called “toy” Rolex watches in Chicago’s old Maxwell Street Market.
Per the Chicago Tribune article:
“I told customers these were not real,” Kang said, adding that he sold “toy” Rolexes for just $7. “We were not fooling anybody.”
Charged in U.S. District Court with one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods, Kang was sentenced by a federal judge in May 1985 to a year’s probation. He paid a $5,000 fine, and records show he was released from probation in good standing just a month later.
But he said he pleaded guilty and paid the fine because it was just the easiest way to deal with federal agents. He thought that would be the end of it.
Ah, but it wasn’t. Kang later tried to sit on the board of small community Foster Bank. When the FDIC did a background check, Kang was forced to give up his board seat. So on a whim, Kang applied for a pardon back in 2002 and just forgot about it.
Six years later, turns out he won the Presidential pardon lottery. Who says you need friends in high places or be a Texas “good ole boy” to get a genuine Presidential pardon? You never know unless you ask…

I’m gonna go way off topic here.
Anyone here know how to convert .hwp files into a format that is legible with MS word or notepad, etc?
Thanks
Open them up in Hangul Word Processor and save them in a different format.
