FTA with the US is dead. Even if it goes through, you have to really wonder if it’s a good ideal trading with a country whose new owners are going to be the men in Shanghai and Beijing.
China, as the largest creditor nation in America, they are demanding the US let the Big Three go bankrupt so that Chinese can snap them up. This may sound outrageous for Americans, but if you think about it, it’s not really. The people who lend you money have a right to say where their invested money goes.

It’s really disappointing and disturbing to see how far and low the US has sunk.
Korea should concentrate on getting the FTA done with Europe, Canada, Oceania, South East Asia. US is in no shape even to debate about it.

Ah, it’s democracy as a contact sport.
I think the Obama gov’t will see all the pending FTAs as a low priority and will put off the one with Korea for a while and demand renegotiation of it, so expect a few more tantrums in the Assembly.
Korea will probably have to give in a bit on autos if it wants the FTA to pass–they’re going to have a similar fight with the EU FTA anyway, so some concessions are unavoidable. And the Korean economy is forecast to shrink next year, so it needs all the trade access it can get.
