Wonderful.

This is some more, head-shaking, disgustingly negative publicity for South Korea — one of the very few places in the world where this sort of law exists. It is very ironic that this law was originally passed to “protect women who had few rights in the male-dominated society”!

This sort of legality-driven persecution is inexcusable in any polite and reasonable society.

So let me get this straight:

A couple of men just got let off for repeatedly raping a disabled woman over 7 years.

A woman who (allegedly) cuckolded an (allegedly) unfaithful partner in a sham marriage faces a 2 year prison term.

Am I being cynical, or does the fact that a big-nose is involved poisoned any hope of leniency for the woman in question? It’s just that every time I hear a adjoshi bandying on about the “Social Order” alarm bells start ringing.

Hope she gets off.

#2,

You’ll love this one…

A few years ago, politicians and the media were suddenly up in arms about prostitution, saying that it was “destroying families”. Ironically, they were talking about a few recently opened establishments that offered the companionship of young male ‘escorts’ to lonely housewives. They didn’t seem concerned about the fact that sex businesses catering to men were numbered in the hundreds, if not the thousands (some of which were operating on the same blocks as police stations, to boot).

Hope she gets off.

Well, that seems to be why she’s in this mess in the first place.

Sorry.

Yep. Sorry, fellas, all this lambasting against the system seems to detract from the case at hand.

“Yep. Sorry, fellas, all this lambasting against the system seems to detract from the case at hand.”

Meaning?

That word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

Fear not. cm will be here shortly to explain that it all makes sense because some Koreans were sued over a pair of pants in the US.

“inexcusable in any polite and reasonable society.”

I thought we were talking about Korea.

Just remember that demanding jail is what the prosecutors are supposed to do, according to their role in the system. Judges generally don’t impose a greater sentence than that requested by the prosecution — instead, the judge cuts it down, thus taking on the role of wise and kind forgiver.

I feel real sorry for their kid. The only real victim here. In Korea divorce means that a child will probably loose touch with one of their parents. I hope Park can look past his petty anger to realize Ok is still an important part of his daughter’s life. But seeing how he turned his divorce into a media circus, I don’t think that will happen. Does he even have an inkling how harmful this circus he created is to his daughter. Now she’ll have to go through a childhood of being ridiculed by kids and immature adults. “Your dad is impotent and you mom’s a whore.”

I can just imagine the warm fuzzy bedtime stories he tells is daughter every night. “Your Mom is a Dirty Slut.” Or the emotionally riveting “Mommy Doesn’t Love You Anymore!!!!!!!!” Or the classic “You Can’t See Your Mom Anymore, Her Slutyness is Contagious.”

There is an ANMA almost next door to both the Seoul Eastern District Court house and Western District Court house. They MUST be there for the lawyers/judges and the rest. Hell, it’s Sooo convenient for them to get a little whenever their little pricks desire. Carr’s Korean partners have probably been there more than a few times. What about you _ _ _ _ ?

14 R. Elgin November 27, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Ouch, what “jewook” said. Such harm to the daughter of these two would be far worse than the bad impression that the rest of the world gets of South Korea and its unique version of sharia law.

Doesn’t the Prosecutor’s Office have anything better to do nowadays than this!?

15 Pohang November 27, 2008 at 11:42 pm

Truly frightening. It’s one thing to talk of Korea being a backward nation in many ways, but when you see such a blatant example of it as this you can only shake your head. Jailed for cheating? WOW. Will we ever see a case of a man being jailed for this? Does anyone know of such a case?

That poor woman. The judicial system here is scary. Real criminals get off while people are jailed for troubled marriage.

The Seoul Eastern District and Western District Courts are déclassé. Only English teachers and GIs ever have legal business in those courts. We never find ourselves over there. Central District Court all the way, baby. So as a result we go to the massage parlors near there. In fact, we go every day — sometimes two or three times a day.

But didn’t you know? We have secretaries for that too.

You make it sound as if it’s all just a show for the media.
