The “Foreign Media” at it again

by Dram_man on November 3, 2008

Boy I am sure glad the Blue House is doing its best to stop rampant speculation about the Korean economy in the foreign media. It makes sure that foreigners are not exposed to such rumor mongering headlines like these in the Korean press:

3 ‘Time Bombs’ Threatening Korean Economy

10 Weak Points of Korean Economy

Obstacles in the way of a wider economic bounce

I am glad to see unfounded rumors like these are not easily accessible to foreigners.

These articles are related to macro issues and has nothing to do with stock market speculation.

Korea has a rude awakening ahead of it, if it believes it can suppress/control the worlds’ opinions, regardless of the truth of those opinions.

Playing the blame-game is a poor start! So is the Korea-the-victim, woe-is-me routine.

This is hardly behavior that will build confidence in Korea’s international future.

I don’t think this is playing the blame game or playing the victim as much as trying to set the record straight.

To put things in perspective: all was fine until the US economy went tits up.

Perhaps you are right user-81, but I get the sense that setting the record straight, means blaming foreign media for the loss of faith investors have in Korea/the Korean economy.

If you build your house out of straw, it will do just fine I suppose, until a strong wind comes around.

Not much talk of the country going bankrupt these days. This is a 180 degree turn around from few days ago. It’s strange that the currency and the stock market is also stabilized somewhat even with a bad economy that’s going into a recession.

Is Korea pissing into the wind?

Can the country keep robust growth while most of their major trading partners/customers go into recession? Maybe Korea should prop up the US economy as well, just to maintain a market for their products.

I want one of those bulldozers that can change direction with just the slightest touch on the controls.
