The Golden Calf . . .

by R. Elgin on October 31, 2008

For Christians or Americans, this should only leave them speechless.  (Hat tip to PZ Myers)

Bad idea… BAD idea… we’ve really pissed HIM off now!

Time to sell short….

Wait a minute, that helped get us into this mess to start with…

My father CAPITAL, who are on earth an Almighty God, who changest the course of rivers, tunnelest mountains, separatest contiguous shores, and meltest into one distant nations. Creator of Merchandise, and Source of Life, oh, Thou, who rulest Kings and subjects, laborers and employers, may Thy Kingdom be for evermore on earth. Give us plentiful purchasers to take our goods off our hands, without looking too closely whether these be genuine or shoddy, pure or adulterated. Give us needy working people, who will accept the hardest work and the lowest pay without grumbling. Send us gudgeons who may be allured by the tempting bait of our prospectuses, and ensnared in the network of our fair promises. Cause our debtors to pay us their debts in full. Lead us not into the penitentiary, but deliver us from bankruptcy, and grant us never ceasing dividends. Amen.

Religion is an irony.

If this is an abomination to God, then I should bet on there being one hell of a payback.

PZ Meyers writes that “They prayed before a statue of a golden bull on Wall Street”. He means praying in front of the statue but the word choice makes it sound like they are praying before it as in praying to it. I think what the CBN people are doing is silly but what is the point of misrepresenting it? What they’re doing is no “abomination to God” by the standard of faith they have.

I thought it was an excellent post – one of the best I have seen in some time. Sarcastic, funny, and at the same time informative as to just how stupid we can be.

Religion is a security blanket that needs to be put away.

The Invisible Hand of the Marketplace will save us from calamity.

12 NetizenKim November 1, 2008 at 12:41 am

During the eight year of the reign of Bush II, the high priests Paulson and Bernanke maketh sacrifice to placate the invisible gods of the marketplace by burning hundreds of billions of dollars at the Temple of the Treasury. The gods were not pleased. A long period of famine ensued afterwards…

Paulson and Bernanke didn’t serve 8 years. They are very recent additions. Less than 4 years for sure. Possibly 2 years of service.

Greenspan basically sat and called all the shots for the Feds control desk, for the period responsible for the current timeline. You’re not excusing him because of a twisted political agenda, are you?

Well… what those Christians did in Wall Street and laying hands on a golden bull WAS a bad idea… how was it not?

16 Zonath November 1, 2008 at 7:14 am

Bull looks bronze to me, not golden…

17 littlebrownasian November 1, 2008 at 3:21 pm

If it was really a golden calf, you wouldn’t be seeing it on TV, film or online as pristine as the one above. I would have thought somebody chipping a piece of this and a piece of that and sell them to your local pawnshop. :)
