No hat tips to any of the people who brought it up here? Even if you didn’t get the news from them, they deserve a hat tip for bringing it to MH attention first.

yeah, tip your hat, dude.
Victory for the dwaenjang girls.
Over the insecure white girls.
Seriously, everyone from western Europe speaks good enough English, probably because all the major langs have some connection one way or the other.
Latin splits to Italian, Spanish, and French.
English from German, Nordic barbarians (Anglo Saxon Jutes admitted they were barbarians when they incorporated French into development of English lang), modified with the Spanish Aramda years, etc.
Korea, China and Japan, they speak shitty English.
when I was a child, KTUnion teachers used to claim that all the Korean school English ed’s are basically translations of Japanese ways, and noting that Japanese people speak shitty English, despite arguably early and mandatory English ed, they also inspired me to
blame Japan.
why blame Japan?
I think Koreans picked up English as school ed during the Japanese Empire years.
Insecure white girls lose to a group of Korean girls.
Wangkon, can you do a series of #50 to #1 of active Korean girl golfers, from least attractive to most?
it will be fun, dude.
wjk, your ability to turn anything into a Japan rant knows no bounds. You need help.
this is a case of racism.
someone said Latin MLB players speak good enough English.
so not true. Only few do.
Manny Ramirez, to my recollection, always says,
“you know, blah, blah, you know, you know, blah, blah, blah, you know,”
no, I don’t know.
you don’t really need to talk.
not that the Dodgers will ever hit well.
WJK -
You write the worst haikus that I’ve ever read.
I didn’t say “I blame Japan”.
Koreans play Japanese style baseball, practice Japanese style politics with some US style mix, K to college is Japanese style, the brown tube is Japanese style, they use a Japanese style mini toilet(claims to use less than 50% water versus the REAL toilet), sing Japanese style songs, eat Japanese style fastfood, but most importantly,
wouldn’t be caught dead in a Korean car, if given a real choice.
I’m giving myself a headache.
well, it’s soothing to know Koreans don’t have Japanese style and scale of Japanese porn industry.
they were never meant to be read as Haikus.
according to my Jr. High ed memory bank, these violate the rules of Haiku rhythm.
Along with everybody else….
Did anybody actually think that they would be able to keep this policy? And please…stop trying to compare it with pro sports teams - the situations have nothing in common (except people making ridiculous amounts of money).
It was a poorly thought out band-aid solution to a larger problem.
“It was a poorly thought out band-aid solution to a larger problem.”
That problem: people around the world don’t speak the same language.
We’ve had civilization for how many thousands of years now? When are we going to finally do something about this problem?!
Not even close to being funny. Try again.
The solution could be to try to use the LPGA stars to entertain pro-am partners OUTSIDE the U.S. The problem with this would be that Japanese and Korean partners might misunderstand what they’re buying and think they’re paying to have sex with Natalie Gulbis or Michelle Wie.
I wasn’t trying to be funny. The problem is that the LPGA list is an international field and even though they’d like everyone to “speak American” that’s not the way it plays out. If they think it’s a problem then turn the liability into an asset and expand revenue that way.

Not a victory for anyone but for something. As some posters pointed out, America is a nation that does not allow discrimination to stand, and one would expect nothing different but for this reversal to occur without a single demonstration or severed chicken head.
The Korean squeeky wheel gets the grease again.
Note, this is a good outcome which I had been hoping for and frankly expecting, because discrimination is an objectively identifiable behavior that can be acted upon.
Note I say “discrimination”, not “racism”. Topics like these can be more constructively approached without the use of pejorative digs. It is sad that some people still think in these antiquated terms.
Except that the Korean players have been quoted as being in favor — or at least, resigned to — the LPGA’s unfair English-only policy.
The tour dropped the language requirement not because Korean players and sponsors found it unfair, but because the rest of America was rankled by such an un-American policy.
Sperwer:”The Korean squeeky wheel gets the grease again.”
More likely they supplied the grease.
so, only Koreans are racists, but white Americans, aren’t correct?
what an idiot.
look, if you’ve been around enough, white people will get comfy and cozy up, and think it’s okay to say bad things about black people in your presence.

it’s really selective when you libs claim racism is either present or not present.
when you want to vote for Obama, you claim America is racist.
when you want to excuse the Ladies golf league, you claim America is not racist.
brew ha ha ha ha.
At risk of having my post deleted, can I say that I welcome this backdown by the LGPA.
I feel for you little brother.
Yes. It was a really bad move by the LPGA to begin with. They should have anticipated it not going over well with the average person.
Brendon:
I wasn’t suggesting that it was the players who were complaining.
There’s a culture war going on in America. I think they anticipated the average person would agree with them.
This was an unnecessary rule to begin with, and definitely would not have solved the problems that the LPGA currently face. It got them some sort of publicity, though.
There’s a culture war?
“Seriously, everyone from western Europe speaks good enough English, probably because all the major langs have some connection one way or the other.”
You really are on another planet WJK, if they all spoke it well enough I wouldn’t need a translator every time I go to Europe, and it hardly split only into Germanic & Latin groups, what about the Eastern Europena groups, the Finno-Ugric groups which are closer the korean and Japanese, the Greek, the Turks, Caucacus, Celtic, Brythonic etc etc etc…
hey, even in Planet WJK they don’t speak English well enough as clearly evidenced by your posts…
Yeh, I know not all the examples are Western Europe, but the points the same…
“well, it’s soothing to know Koreans don’t have Japanese style and scale of Japanese porn industry.”
Only, because they can’t compete, Korean porn is seriously naff…., the key part there was “don’t have …. style”
“wouldn’t be caught dead in a Korean car, if given a real choice.”
Clearly, not a real Korean, and you don’t speak english so what are you….
WJK post => “If you really call yourself Korean, now more than ever, Go buy a Hyundai.”
WJK post => “Hyundai, wjk approved.”
WJK post => “cm, buy a Hyundai.”
Well, he did say major languages in western Europe (I think he’s thinking France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal as opposed to Poland, Scandinavia, Balctic states, etc.), and they are all connected in one way or the other, making it easier to learn. For example, my old high school French teacher learned French in 5 years, then proceeded to gain fluency in Spanish in less than a year. Dutch, I’ve been told, is extremely similar to German, and the same deal with Portuguese and Spanish.
I think it’s like how the Koreans find it easier to learn Japanese than European languages (I’ve been told the grammar rules & syntax are near identical?).
Bum, read post 28#,
Finno-Ugric is west (Finland) as are the Celtic (Scotland / Ireland) and Brythonic (Wales / France), Basque (France / Spain) which is pretty much unlike anything anywhere else), Scandinavian.
The problem with Koreans speaking is the fact that they not taught how to, only how to pass tests. Their written grammar is frequently far and above their speaking ability…
and the difference in language type doesn’t seem to stop many other asians from speaking well,
That might excuse a bit of awkwardness in the language, but what accounts for the utter inability (after ten or more years of English schooling) to string together a simple sentence like, “I like sausage and porn.”
Oh, absolutely. I don’t think I can pass any of the Korean high school’s English exams considering their grammar intensive curriculum, but I have no problem saying “I like sausage and porn.” (except that I prefer bacon when having a heavy breakfast :-D). And I wasn’t saying anything other than trying to guess what he meant by “western Europe”, not dispute your definition of the term.
Seriously, it shows you’ve never set foot in Europe.
FAIL!
fuck off, dda.
I’ve never set foot in Europe, but pretty much seen European tourists in America speak basic English with ease.
they all can say, hello, what time is it, etc.
whereas, they’ll run away in Seoul.
i bet I scored higher than most of you on major national US exams.
yeah, I admit I fled from English writing major, because I found myself uniquely lost when it came to studying “beats” of some sort in poetry. I seriously had no clue.
despite what you say, no one in western Europe speaks Basque, Celtic, etc, outside of those communities.
Latin and German langs dominated in military, commerce, and politics, etc.
in fact, I bet you there are more computer, translation, service industries accomodating for Korean versus Celtic, Basque, etc.
Hummm…. maybe I should just CHECK all the posts BEFORE I put anything up…
Guess the LPGA could simply limit the number of players they accept from other countries. That would certainly solve the problem…..
They wouldn’t have much to say anyways.
“I’ve never set foot in Europe, but pretty much seen European tourists in America speak basic English with ease.
they all can say, hello, what time is it, etc.”
Pretty idiotic logic, WJK, how do know all of them can, the ones who can’t aren’t going to speak to you, and the ones who’re scared of speaking english are most likely bak home in europe. Also Hello, and what time is it is hardly showing the ability to hold a conversation.
I can say hello, in Korean, Thank you, two beers please etc… but I’m hardly going to claim that my korean is passably good.
“despite what you say, no one in western Europe speaks Basque, Celtic, etc, outside of those communities.”
Wow, what logic, talk about stating the obvious!!! How many korean’s speak korean outside of their korean communities it’s not reached lingua franca status just yet as far as I recall.
Also what’s that got to do with your claim that “all western european languages are connected, then when proven otherwise you sidetrack.
“in fact, I bet you there are more computer, translation, service industries accomodating for Korean versus Celtic, Basque, etc.”
Again rather stating the obvious, Korean is one of the largest spoken languages in the world with approx 70 million speakers, including those outside communities, particularly China, but also US, Russia etc. It’s also a major inductrial encomony.
So naturally, it going to have more call for such services than minority languages in remoter parts of Western Europe.
“i bet I scored higher than most of you on major national US exams.”
Well, you’ve got me beat there, although why on earth you think that most english speakers are going to go all the way to america just to take those exams rather than those in their home country I do not know. Anyway which naitional US exams, hispanic, you clearly have problems with english??
What the LPGA should do is charge more money to the players who decide to hide behind English ability while they shirk their duties. They could increase their dues or initial membership fees. Why should whitey carry their load too?
