Travelling around Jeollanam-do’s Haenam-gun and Jindo for an upcoming issue of SEOUL. Anyway, here are a couple of shots for you:
Daeheungsa Temple is a lovely place.
Mihwangsa Temple, while not quite as large, has always been one of my favorites thanks to Mt. Dalmasan in back. It has grown considerably, however, since I last visited about five years ago.
If you’ve lived in or visited Jeollanam-do, you know what this is, and you know its reputation. In case you don’t, here’s chef Gordon Ramsey puking up a similar dish, a specialty of Iceland:

Definitely an “eat at your own risk” dish.

Hey, this is a great dish. 묵은기치, 돼지고기, 홍어회? There are more ‘interesting’ dishes in Corea. Has anybody tried 새끼회 on Jeju?
If that’s not stomach churning enough, then why not mention Gordon Ramsey to really put someone off their food. Cunt that he is.
The skate dish is not bad and usually comes with malkolli. Personally I like how skate is prepared in Indonesia better (grilled).
Too bad you didn’t make over to Muwisa too.
samhap! that’s one dish i do miss, oddly enough.
there’s another jeolla dish that’s an unborn calf taken out of the mother, boiled to jelly consistency then the whole animal is eaten if i remember correctly. can’t remember the city that claims to be the originator.
I’d eat that for a dollar!
That video of the chef is nothing. This one of Steve-O of Jackass fame is better. Here he eats some kind of fried rodent, a kind of delicacy in Louisiana, and blows some serious chunks:

Damn, I’m sudennly hungry.
The nice thing about 홍어회 is that it clears the sinuses (I’m used to pungent ammonia smells after working as long as I have in chemistry labs). Anyway, better than 부대찌개 or 번데기…
