Vote pimp looking for some action

by Andy Jackson on August 29, 2008

If you want to register to vote and will be in the Yongsan Garrison/Itaewon area on an upcoming Sunday afternoon, I can help you.

I will bring my voter registration materials with me every Sunday afternoon for the next several weeks. My church is located near Yongsan Garrison’s Gate 3 and I usually have lunch in that area. I can be available from about 1:00 to about 3:00, except for September 28 (the next Republicans Abroad-Korea meeting).

I will help anyone register to vote and request an absentee ballot, although I will do it more cheerfully if you tell me you plan to vote Republican.

I can also come to your church or other group meeting to register voters. Just send me an email (andyinrok@lycos.com).

Right now, I have one tentative registration set for the afternoon of Saturday, September 20 at at the entrance to Shinjang Shopping Mall across from the Osan AB Main Gate in Songtan (exact location TBA).

BTW1, if you get your ballot late, FedEX will ship it for free (from the Asia-Pacific region).  It is a service they also had in 2004.

BTW2, the following states will let you register at your parent’s last address in their state even if you have never lived in America: AZ, CO, DE, GA, HI, IA, MA, MI, NE, NY, ND, OK, RI, TN, WV, WI. However you will only be allowed to vote for federal offices.

Dear Andy, I’m sorry about my insulting comment in another post. I didn’t know this was your blog or cosharing, and anyway I was hasty. I will try to keep my opinion to myself. Apparently that is the best way, although it doesnt work for everybody. Again, I am apology and will make it up to you by reading your next articles.

This is the Marmot’s blog. Alas, I am just a little chipmunk co-author around here.

@3 and a good Patriot, despite your political party.

4 NES August 29, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Shut up, cmm; you neo-communist! ;)

A post was made at GI ROK Drop about the tentative date at Shinjang Mall and a feeler if anyone wanted to volunteer to assist a Democratic registration as well. Told them to post a note here if interested.

any chance of voter registration happening in daegu?

7 eepobee August 29, 2008 at 11:56 pm

not much need for voting now, mccain just chose some no-name chick as his running mate.

8 bumfromkorea August 30, 2008 at 12:04 am

Who the hell is Sarah Palin? I know that she’s the governor of Alaska and has a female genitalia (I assume), but other than that… It really looks like McCain just chose some random person whose attributes are her sex classification and her age (I think she’s 3 years younger than Obama).

I dunno about this (for McCain’s sake, I mean)… Isn’t Alaska corrupt/pork-fattened as fuck?

9 dogbert August 30, 2008 at 12:07 am

My Ghod … just when I’d thought Obama had committed electoral suicide via Bidenation, McCain has a hot flash and tops that.

10 WangKon936 August 30, 2008 at 3:41 am

I dunno… I think Sarah is kinda hot… in a MILF kinda way.

11 WangKon936 August 30, 2008 at 3:50 am

But in all seriousness…. wtf? Picking a chick who use to be governor of the backwater state of Alaska who happens to DISAGREE with you on oil drilling???

That sound you just heard was the GOP Titanic hitting the iceberg…

Eh… she’s from Alaska, fur grows on trees there.

14 Netizen Kim August 30, 2008 at 4:41 am

Who the hell is Sarah Palin?

Barack has had absence of father-figure issues all his life so he goes and picks a guy older than McCain himself. I mean Biden was still a Senator back when McCain was being a guest at the Hanoi Hilton. It also helps plug the experience gap. The ideal VP for McCain was likely Condolezza Rice. That shoots two birds with one stone, a minority and a woman. But she’s not interested in being VP, so he picks a soccer-mom governor and tries to go for the Hilary Clinton vote. It’s the feng-shui of American politics.

interpretation is fairly simple. Both candidates went for the exact opposites of themselves.

McCain is going for the white women to vote for him.

I think the polls will show this is the right move for him.

He’s not even trying for the black vote.

In the past, picking someone from a big state was customary to automatically pocket that state.

Al Gore lost his own state when he ran against Bush. Bush won with a tack on of Wyoming.

My state has a Candidate doesn’t seem to equal I win this state, anymore.

16 user-81 August 30, 2008 at 6:08 am

wjk, Edwards also lost his home state of North Carolina in 2004.

From what I’ve been reading, Palin is a lot like McCain, being a maverick who has tried to tackle tough ethical problems in their government.

Kalani,
I have emailed the Democrats about making it a joint table.

nick,
If you are military, go to the voting assistance officer. If not, you can get you ballot request online along with instructions on wear to mail it:
http://www.fvap.gov/overseas-citizens/index.html

A couple of things on Palin:
-She brings something that none of the other candidates for the executive branch have: executive experience (although not as much as I would have liked). There is a reason that most of our recent presidents have been governors
-Alaska is no more of a backwater than Arkansas.

18 bumfromkorea August 30, 2008 at 11:19 am

@Andy Jackson
Yes, but one of those states have less than half of the population of the City of Phoenix. :-D

19 Arghaeri August 30, 2008 at 12:30 pm

“Alaska is no more of a backwater than Arkansas.”

Nuance reconfiguration, “Alaska is just as much a backwater as Arkansas” ;-)

God that was pathetic. Is that all you got?

Anything to avoid the issues.

“From what I’ve been reading, Palin is a lot like McCain, being a maverick who has tried to tackle tough ethical problems in their government.”

Gimme some of that cool aid.

“The ideal VP for McCain was likely Condolezza Rice. That shoots two birds with one stone, a minority and a woman. But she’s not interested in being VP, so he picks a soccer-mom governor and tries to go for the Hilary Clinton vote.”

It has nothing do do with the Hilary Clinton vote, except perhaps in McCain’s dottering senile mind. Hillary voters at least have the native intelligence and self respect not to vote for this insulting VP choice. It’s about the religious right, gun toting, war mongering, environmenally hostile backwards conservatives that “elected” GWB.

23 abcdefg August 30, 2008 at 12:51 pm

I give Palin a thumbs up for looking like Tina Fey. But two thumbs down for her Bimbo mannerisms and style of speech. Sure, aesthetics is nothing and she has experience. But I wouldn’t expect her to be a philosopher. And in that respect, she’s the perfect choice for McCain.

@ Mizar5 re #21 “Gimme some of that cool aid.”

I don’t have my “Logic for Dummies” at my fingertips, so could you check yours for me, please? Your comment is argumentum ad what?

Do the Republicans Abroad have any gang signs?

26 peter63 September 4, 2008 at 8:31 am

In answer to the gang sign question, yes there are a few but I had difficulty finding them on the Internet. Some are highly intricate and choreographed with multiple non-affiliated members, others more simple . This one
combines the victory sign and the ‘go for it’ sign. This one is called The Tough Guy . As you can tell, not all republicans abroad are the same, as some can be seen bare handed.
